Leadership Operational Plan
Introduction
An operation plan is an integral part of an organization’s strategic plan which is vital for effective leadership. In addition, an operation plan gives details of what size of the organization strategic plan will be pursued during a particular period of time. A leadership operation plan is a detailed outline that is used to give a clear picture of the manner in which a team, a section or a particular department will work towards the achievement of the organization’s strategic objectives. Notably, the strategic goals of an organization are usually outlined in the business plan of an organization which also puts across the intended direction of a firm (Dlsweb, 2015). There is growing tension between the financial goals of an organization. The human resource departments focus on the employees and their behaviors. As such, the task of defining the ethical codes of conduct and the task to communicate these ethical codes rests upon the department. In addition, it is important to note that the factors affecting human capital can be categorized into factors affecting the employee economic situation and the factors affecting the employee economic situation directly (Kincade Oppenheimer, 2013). Another issue affecting the human capital in light of the changing global economy is employee turnover and separation. The essays “Neat People vs Sloppy People” by Suzanne Britt and “Batting Clean-Up and Striking out” by David Berry take a whole new look on the dreaded aspects of cleaning. Britt expresses the different lifestyles of sloppy people to the infamous neat people. While Berry takes gender roles and compares them side by side in order to see the differences between how male/females clean. Both authors illustrate distinct differences and similarities between certain personalities that result in different lifestyles and priorities. Both Britt and Berry express the characteristics that come with these different personalities using humor and exaggeration but, Britt shows bias towards sloppy people while Berry treats both genders with fairness.
The success of the organization depends on how the leaders utilize their management and leadership skills in the organization. Mission, vision and core values of the organization are posted everywhere in the organization to remind every stakeholder about their accountability and responsibility in accordance to the corporate goals. This can’t be effective without successful leadership approach. Effective leader must know how, when and where to communicate the shared vision of the organization to its stakeholders. The goal is to align personal values with the corporate values to reach optimum level of satisfaction towards the work, and the company expectations to its stakeholders. Ineffective leaders are not capable of employing this. They are not capable of employing management by objective or the ability of the managers to align the objective of the all the units and departments of the organization into the organizational goals and values. MBO starts with setting organizational objectives, followed by cascading objectives down to employees-cascading objectives down to employees requires adoption of SMART approach to ensure that goals are attainable and accountable (Mindtools, 2014)

The leader of an organization plays a vital role in the success of the individuals, and of the organization. Reaching the organizations goals cannot be accomplished by leadership alone. Leadership by definition is "a person who guides or directs a group" (CITE). In this paper I will argue that in order for leadership to guide/direct their team to achieve their goals and fulfilling their mission; a leader must have a clear vision and have an appropriate set of goals.
Leadership is a broad term with a powerful and diverse meaning. Found in every profession, school setting, and workplace, proves its vital and valued role. Working in the future as a health care professional evokes a strong sense of understanding to provide effective leadership. The first concept that we covered in the Master’s program at Baker University was to identify what type of leader you would like to be. At the time we did not have the knowledge but it was setting up the path of deliverables that would be achieved 2 years later. By analyzing the past leadership habits, applying new leadership concepts, thought process and real examples. We not have the tools to understand the individual’s leadership concepts and also organizational leadership concepts.
High turnover rate of minorities and female employees has become a serious issue in the United States. Even though many ethnic races form this country, male Anglo-Saxons dominate the majority of the workforce. It is not uncommon for minority and female employees to leave their company after only working for a few years. Why has this behavior become a trend? In order to stop this trend, companies must ask themselves several questions. For example, what are the issues causing the high turnover rate? What legal and ethical issues are the companies facing? After these questions have been asked and processed, solutions must be implemented to change the flow of the trend.
A strategic plan is a tool that delivers guidance in achieving a mission or goal with maximum proficiency and control for an organization. Strategic planning is used to transform and revitalize organizations. The plan helps provide an inclusive understanding of opportunities and challenges both internally and externally for the organization. The plan delivers an assessment of the strengths and limitations that are realistic within the company. A well-developed strategic plan will offer a comprehensive approach and empowerment for the stakeholders involved. It is an opportunity for learning and understanding priorities that will drive the business to succeed. Jones (2010), describes how in health care organizations, strategic plans characteristically concentrate on operational and organizational goals such as when to obtain new technology, how to meet competitive challenges, and what staffing, tools, or facilities are needed to ensure organizational survival. The mission and value statements are significant in determining the quality of a strategic initiative. Forcing the organization to look toward the future creates proactive objectives in which both short-term and long-terms plans and goals are necessary in order to succeed.
Human resource management and the organizations in which it takes place are facing challenges from a changing environment. Hiring the proper people with the appropriate skills is an essential part of maintaining the workplace. Economic issues which include downsizing, organizational culture, productivity, ethics, demographics, and diversity plays a significant role when redesigning a company 's Human Resource Department. Operational planning is what drives strategic planning goals to a success. On a day to day basis, operational plans are being communicated and decisions are being made. Operational planning is important because it leads to the goals and visions of the organization and by doing that, operational plans must be made daily to keep the organization competitive in the market. Friend & Zehle (2004) discuss operational plans central to the allocation of resources, it uses inputs to scale operations in order to deliver information about all stages of the primary value chain activies and the support of those activities. Once plans have been developed, an organization must address how management will be accomplishing be those plans. This involves operational plans that must flow from strategy; specify resource, time issues, and commitment of human resources. Operational plans at the lower - levels of the organization, have a shorter time horizon, and are narrower in scope (Bateman, Snell 2003 p.113). A good example of this is Wal-Mart's main strategic goal. It is to provide quality merchandise at an affordable low cost to consumers. Its operational goals focus on efficient logistics requiring technology and inventory management systems to help reduce costs so it can be passed on to the customer. Operational plans are derived from a tactical plan and are aimed at achieving one or more operational goals (Bateman, Snell 2003 p.113).
An organizational human resources department utilizes the hiring and firing process to meet the organization’s personnel needs. Organizational human resource departments are charged with the oversight of an organizations administration department. The practice of hiring and firing people is a process employer’s conducts on a daily basis. This process has to be done in a proper manner and not in haste. The implication that can occur from the improper hiring and firing process could and can have a positive or negative impact on an organization. Therefore, employers must carefully evaluate their decision to hire/fire individuals and its impact on the organizations’ workplace environment and others employees. Employee turnover in organization is one of the main issues that extensively affect the overall performance of a workplace (Tariq, Ramzan and Riaz, 2013). Various studies show that employee turnover negatively affect the overall efficiency at the organization (Tariq, Ramzan and Riaz, 2013). Xiancheng, (2013) mentioned the employee turnover is a method of personal issues who decided to stop associate with the company for better advantage. There are two types of turnover which are voluntary and involuntary turnover. Voluntary turnover can be defined as the termination of the official and the psychological contract between the employee and employer (Krausz, 2002; Macdonald, 1999; Mclean Parks et al, 1999; Rousseau, 1995) while involuntary turnover inescapably lead to direct negative results such as current job is insecurity, work difficulty, and status fluctuation (Gowan and Gatewood, 1997). However, other researchers such as Haven-Tang and Jones, (2012) concluded poor management, lack of salary, bad working environment and paucity of job opportunities could be the highest causes of turnover among organization. This statement was support by Kusluvan et al., (2010) where is they had stated that poor management, low payment of salary, work environment and lack of employees’ job opportunities on the organization will make employee want to quit from their job. Leadership is one of the most important facets in organizations. In most cases, leaders act with respect to organizational culture as well as the codes of conduct that determine the manner in which leaders relate with subordinates. Leadership entails the use of effective communication skills to get activities done in the workplace and to ensure that employees shelve their individual interests for the sake of their organizations’ shared targets. It is the role of leaders to ensure that consumers attain high quality products and services by making certain that members of their firms’ workforce are fully motivated to work effectively and utilize resources in an efficient manner (Bass, 22). With the increasingly sophisticated nature of the corporate world, leadership should not be based solely on the desire to control and coordinate affairs within the workplace, but leaders should also exhibit positive examples and continually monitor the changing trends in corporate governance to initiate the most relevant guidelines. Competitiveness can only be attained when leaders are in a position to set the right standards in their firms and coordinate affairs appropriately by understanding consumer and employee needs.
