Individuality within Education When was the last time a student felt like an individual in the classroom? My guess, not in a long, long time. Getting an education is extremely important but at what cost? In schools all across the country, teachers are doing their jobs, to the best of their ability, as set for them by the school districts. The problem with that, is the student as an individual is lost in test scores and mundane information. Although education provides the fundamentals of life for students with subjects such as reading and math, a stronger emphasis on the student’s individual learning abilities and interests would greatly improve America’s education system. Students at this level are still learning and developing skills needed for life and by this time each student is starting to realize they do not exactly learn like everyone else. There are three types of learning abilities, auditory, visual and kinesthetic or touching. Some students use just one type while others may use a combination of two or all three. As for myself, I need to hear the teacher teaching it; I also need to do whatever I am taught to get a full learning experience. Learning abilities vary from student to student. How do teachers make sure each student is learning at their own pace and in their own way? Sadly, teachers do not usually do this for each student and that leaves most children behind. In the past, I have had teachers just supply me with the information and they would expect me to know it immediately. Often I was the child who was left behind because I was not recognized individually as a student. If schools and teachers worked together to ensure students individual learning abilities were addressed this would allow the students to be more successful in their studies. Although I was left behind in school a lot of the time, on occasion I had a teacher that cared and made sure each of their students was
As a student, I am often troubled by the rigid routines of the school day, despite the fact that I am actually a very habitual person. The constant ringing of bells, lectures, bellwork, classwork, homework, each a daily practice throughout the school year. Although all of these components promote conformity, which will ultimately support the balance of school and societal norms, they also tend to threaten each student’s own unique characteristics. This then poses the question; to what degree should schools encourage conformity versus individuality? Certainly, a level of conformity is required to achieve a balanced society however, the overall structure of the school day and class, including the methods used to teach and mandatory classes, is depriving students of their sense of independence by not allowing them to think for themselves and destroying their natural curiosity; therefore I believe schools need to place more emphasis on the individuality of students.

I listen to my students. I allow time for their individual impute in what they are learning, and adjust accordingly. I really believe that is why students can be so into the idea of being taught, because they are all encouraged to lead the discussion and projects before them as it relates to the curriculum. Education is a very important aspect of our lives. It is our education that makes us who we are and determines what we become. Therefore, education is not something to be taken lightly. As a teacher, my goal will be to provide the best possible education for my students. Every student is unique. I must see students for who they are individually and respect their ideas and opinions. Each student has a different learning style. I must take this into consideration because I want to provide a constructive learning opportunity for every student. There is a growing amount of changes in the classroom such as technology, teaching time, teaching styles, and freedom of space.
People all learn at a different pace, some may be faster than others at learning something. It just depends on how the specific person learns best, or how much they already know on a specific topic. Other than the obvious fact that people learn differently, you as a teacher also have to take into consideration those that can not understand because of a mental disability that they may have. It is really common for someone of special needs to be put into a classroom and you have to be sure to not leave them behind, and make sure that they understand what you are teaching. It may be a slower process, but it is necessary. On the opposite side of that, there are the people who get all that you throw at them really easily. Those people may get bored, so you may have to give them something harder to do so that they are challenged and interested. To be fair and sure that people all learn properly, you should split them into three groups for each lesson that you teach. The group that completely understands what they need to, the group that is average and kind of gets it, that may need a little more help, and the group that definitely needs help with the topic. Doing this, you can ensure that each group will eventually be on the same level of understanding. You could also do some sort of different activity for each group, getting harder as you go up in difficulty level. This may take longer than you

These should be taken into consider and activities should be planned accordingly so that slow learners will not left behind and fast learners will not be bored. Behavior such as disruptive and destructive shows similar characteristics. These behaviors need to be discussed with the parents and necessary actions need to be taken to create a good atmosphere in the class. Also teachers will be able to identify different cognitive levels and learning styles. Some students learn through audio, some need to see visually while some of them learn by writing. So as teachers we need to have all these learning styles in a lesson to fulfill each individual. Planning should be done accurately which helps in the teaching learning process. Teachers play a great role in handling different children in the classroom. To build up an effective teaching process, these facts need to be taken into consideration.
