The main skill needed by leaders is the ability to recognize the problem early and to solve it effectively. The leaders at all levels solve different problems every day. Problems are well-structured, medium-structured and ill-structured; they can be large-scale and can impact the life quality of many members inside and outside the Army. So the problem solving process and the elements of thought must be used comprehensively to achieve the best results. Leaders in the Army are responsible for daily routine, preparing orders, planning operations, subordinates‘ behavior, their promotions and awards. In addition to this, leaders must provide information to their unit members why such solutions were made, why such way of problem solving was chosen, what circumstances boosted such decisions, how it applies to subordinates‘ duties. Therefore, communication giving clear information transfers thoughts, broadens horizons and reaches better outcomes. The officer must show and teach the subordinates how to solve problems using all possible methods. In examining the military history, one can easily find out that the main role of military leaders in the field is to decrease confusion and to guide units to achieve the desired end state. In accomplishing these tasks, Situational Understanding and Visualization have become necessary steps especially in today’s complex environment. This importance legitimates the question about their relationship between these two steps and the challenges facing leaders to achieve situational understanding and visualization. Commander’s visualization depends on Situational understanding. Leader’s success in these two phases remains conditioned by overcoming some challenges related to his bias, time and the efficiency of his staff.

Leadership is contagious throughout the world and most importantly in the Army. It is not just my view, but of all leaders, at all levels, that organizations are responsible for setting conditions that lead to long-term organizational success. As I reflect on my experiences, through experience and observation, I realize how my values, beliefs, and perspectives about leadership continuously evolve over time. Recognizing these changes over time helps me better understand that people in organizations have different perspectives in life. This leadership narrative serve as important guiding principles for how I will lead at the organizational level and represents my thought, values and beliefs.
When then leader measures what was supposed to happen with what actually happened, the leader and involved personnel will then find out if the job was completed to standard. Also the leader needs to know from the personnel involved, what to keep doing and what can be done different to get those same or better results. All feedback should be honest and factual. This is the information that the leader will use to makes thing better; to make the operation run more smoothly. All of this defines the most successful and impactful Army leaders.
As a military officer, we need to continuously improve ours leadership align with the development of knowledge and technology so it will be effective. With this reflection on leadership has made me aware of my weaknesses and I am more prepare to improve my leadership skills so I can confident to take on my leadership tour.
As an officer in the United States Army, it has been imperative for me to understand every facet of leadership and why it remains important to be an effective leader. During this course, I have learned some valuable lessons about myself as a leader and how I can improve on my leadership ability in the future. The journal entries along with the understanding of available leadership theories have been an integral part of my learning during this course. For all of the journals and assessments that I completed, I feel it has given me a good understanding of my current leadership status and my future potential as a leader. All of the specific assessments looked at several areas in regards to leadership; these assessments covered several separate focus areas and identified my overall strengths and weaknesses as a leader. Over the course of this paper I will briefly discuss each one of these assessments and journal entries as they pertained to me and my leadership.
