The age of imperialism started in 1870 and is still being used today in certain ways. Imperialism is the policy of extending the rule/authority of an empire or nation over foreign countries. In the 1870s and later years the Europeans assumed control over the Africans and becoming very dominant. Imperialism is thought of as negative because of all the bigger or more advanced countries taking over all the smaller less developed countries to make a profit or cheap labor. Avatar, a movie directed by James Cameron in 2009, was negatively portrayed by the destruction of culture, militaristic missions, and the domination of more developed countries. Although imperialism isn’t displayed much today, in the late 1870s and early 1900s there was a lot of competition between countries. Europe, a country that dominated the imperial age, took over Africa for there land and it was easy for them because Africa was a less developed country and Europe was a advanced dominating country at the time. One example is the Destruction of hometree. This shows how the stronger country, being the Americans, destroying basically the capital of the Natives. Just like when Europe would take over Africa and use them for more land. The humans used their advanced military structure to take over the weaker and less technology advanced society in the natives. This represents the Roman, using their overwhelming stronger military to take over the Europeans. Another example would be the Americans coming into the natives planet and going to war with them trying to obtain more resources and becoming wealthy. This a parallel to the spanish coming into the Americas and taking over the tribes, going to war with them, and taking their resources to become wealthy.
