Immigrant Workers in the United States It is not a secret that illegal and undocumented immigrant workers are the most likely to work in risky jobs. This is mostly because this kind of jobs do not require higher education, advance skills, nor knowledge of the English language. This educational gap creates a factor for these workers to work in riskier jobs. Moreover, illegal and undocumented workers do the work that no one else wants to do. At the same time, this allows employers to not pay the minimum wage, because they know that illegal and undocumented workers will not sue them nor fight for it. Most of the illegal and undocumented immigrant workers work for less than the minimum wage. This helps to have low prices in some economic areas such as food and clothing. Farm and sewing factories positions are full with immigrant workers. If these positions were filled with U.S citizens, we would see an increase in the prices of these products due to minimum wage, basic benefits, and proper security measures needed by law.
Overall, illegal and undocumented workers are needed to fill those jobs that U.S citizens do not want to do. They help with the economy of the country by keeping low prices in basic products. The downside is that they also risk their lives by doing it. Working for less than the minimum wage forces them to work more to have a decent income. Even big companies such Amazon hires seasonal workers to make possible its Same-Day Delivery
