Politics for the last of couple of modern areas have been infiltrated by the use of media. On a daily basis, through newspapers, television, and social media. The majority of the time we receive a glimpse of true events by being fed with scandals and negatives comments or news stories of politicians. For years now, politicians have abused the power of the media to muckrake opponent politicians in order to guarantee their opponents failure. The media has been polluted by bias; they set expectations on appearances, gives false representation of politicians, and that leads to us not trusting the politicians. We are entitled to create a television show or a radio broadcast as long as we ensure sufficient funds or find a lucky sponsor. Now it is more accessible, one can simply create a youtube channel and may exceed the skills necessary to influence an audience. However, the problem that arises is that in the case that a host or creator of the show or channel limits the voice of anti-political views especially since politics is such a controversial issue. One-sided opinions result through our own ignorance of bias. Heather Scatterfield, explicitly explains the idea by explaining this concept in modern word, “If you have a few hundred friends on Facebook, for example, and 90 percent of them agree on most political issues, the information you get will be filtered through this bias.”(Heather Satterfield). This is a serious dilemma and public voice is being filtered to potential bias. Media can sometimes be good for politics but bad for the public and vice versa. The other two directions it can go is when talking about international affairs. Media’s coverage in international political affairs can be for the better or for the worse. For instance, media can cover up something a politician may have done. That would be bad for the public since they are holding information back from us. We want the reality of it however, if they took the public side and showed us that information, being a scandal or something else that the politician has done it will negatively affect politics. So in the end it just depend what and how the media exposes this information because it can either be seen as helpful or bias. Many argue if the media and politicians are withholding that information it is probably with good intent and as we know humans aren’t always the best at handling the truth. Media's involvement with international affairs is again a argument for or against politicians and the public. For years the government has been having problems with the media and their involvement. They have tried effortlessly to control what TV crews can see and/or report.
