Colonial Struggles and Identity in Africa

As we know the majority of our past has challenges and the discontent, fight to win independence from the Europeans. With the various readings we have discussed in the past couple of weeks about fighting for independence due to colonization. Also the troublesome view on race, human identity, and frustration. We will discuss a very important reading and viewing that is believed to best represents the main challenges that Africans’ went through during their difficult journey to independence, and identify conflicts. Blackass by Ignoi Barrett, will give us two very different examples but, very similar concepts on the role of independence and the war that colonization has been carried on in this new world in an political sense. The majority of the world would have to fight for independence from the Europeans who were colonizing at a massive rate. But furthermore, an identity that is the substantial topic of defending the independence in Africa. When talking about identity, not only are we talking about race, but we are talking about telling history.
Furo is a white man with a Blackass, when he walks the streets, he gets plenty of attention from the local Lagosian, as if isn’t a local himself. On the other side we see that the Lagosian are not use to seeing “white” people who want to learn their culture, so it is very strange when they are introduced to Furo. Example the lady at the food shop, she could not help herself when Furo came to her shop and order their food and what does this mean? Well as humans will only eat foods that we are familiar with, therefore when you enter a foreign restaurant, you don’t order what Furo order that day (Egusi Soup ) and the women couldn’t help herself from saying anything, never in her life has she witness an oybio who speaks pigeon who eats the local food and also enjoys
