When a seventeen year old girl gets into a car crash with her family she has an out of body experience, and she has flashbacks of heartwarming memories. The movie If I Stay by Gayle Forman is a story which reminds people that they should focus on the more important moments in life, but the book captures the theme even better with the phenomenal literature. The movie did not adequately bring the emotions to life like the book did. Although the movie was amazing, the book was much more understandable and gave the viewers more of an emotional attachment so at the end of the book, the theme really hit home. Plot development is an essential part of a story to give the viewers an understanding and interest in the story. The plot development in the book is spectacular and in a way, everything relates to one another resulting in an understanding of the story. "Kim laughed. "That's good. Because I'm never going on a helicopter again-and don't you, either!" I want to tell Kim that sometimes you don't have a choice in the matter. The main theme in the book is to take in and savor the good moments and the good people in life because there is no way to tell when everything could be gone. "I'm feeling not just the physical pain, but all that I have lost, and it is profound and catastrophic and will leave a crater in me that nothing will ever fill. But I'm also feeling all that I have in my life, which includes what I have lost, as well as the great unknown of what life might still bring me." (Forman 195). In the story Mia realizes that she has had an amazing life. Even though everything could all be gone soon she has lived her life to the fullest, and she is appreciative for everything that has happened to her and everyone who has impacted her.
