In general, I thought that this class was a pretty good easy class. I liked that we were about to work with the same topic throughout the course of the class. For my topic that I picked for both of the essay and the visual argument was books vs. movies. I really like my topic because it is a very polarizing topic, people either like books more or they like the movie more. While I was trying to find reasons to pin the two against each other, I found out that most of the time if people have read the book before than most likely they thought the book was a lot better than the movie. It was hard to find reasons on why the movie was thought to be better than the book. For me I love watching movies and reading books but I thought that books were …show more content…
I thought that they helped with pointing out some of the things that I might have done wrong. For example, the peer reviews helped the most with my word count. A few times I didn’t have enough words in the writing. In the argument essay I didn’t have enough words and the peer review helped me realize that in time to add another example of authors that didn’t like the movie adaption and that was enough to get enough words in the writing.
I didn’t really think of the rhetorical analysis papers as an aid to the author statement when I was writing them. Know that I think about it know I can see how they are similar to the author statement because it was a summary of what the main essay was about while listing off the rhetorical appeals and target audience. However, at the time I didn’t really think about the rhetorical analysis papers as an aid to the author and artists statement, so they didn’t really help me prepare for the statements that I wrote.
I honestly didn’t find anything problematic in the curriculum for me. I thought that it was really good there is nothing that I can think of to improve it, everything the we did made sense and was explained clearly enough to really know what we were working on in class and every question I had was answered well and helped me understand
The books, A Wrinkle in Time and And Then There Were None, both have many differences in the movie versions. The directors of both movies change the plot to make the movie see fit to what they may have imaged the book to be, while still keeping the story line the same.
In the article of Daniel Richards, the author mentions about in-class peer review. Daniel shows the readers about two types of students who were facing the in-class peer review. One student acts very nervous and he is scared about being shamed if he read his draft in front of his classmates. Other student acts like very confident about his writing and be ready to show his classmates how good he is in writing. In-class peer review exists some social factor about feeling. It may get hurts, the emotion of your classmates and your teacher, feeling shamed when your classmates rate your draft bad. However, the feedback from your peers will motivate your writing somehow. You will know which your weak side and strong side are, then you use it in order
In Our America: on the southside of Chicago the book is very different than the movie. Some books may be better than the movie, and some movies may be better than the book. In Our America: Life and Death on the Southside talks about how kids that live in the ghetto live differently. Our America i two boys LeAlan and Lloyd, they make a documentary about their life and the Eric Morse incident and how they grow up in elementary and high school.I am going to compare and contrast the book and the movie. In the book and the movie there more differences than similarities.
There are many differences and similarities in the short story of “A Sound of Thunder” and the movie.
The novel Speak, written by Laurie Halse Anderson is about a girl, who gets raped in the summer before the start of her freshman year in high school and the book follows her as she tries to cope with the depression that comes that kind of violation. This book was turned into a movie; and released early in the early 2000’s and when adapting books to film, a lot of information and details are lost in the process. When comparing Speak the novel and Speak the movie, the noticeable differences are; the character relationships, Melinda’s character, and Andy Evans and Melinda’s dynamic.
Rhetorical Analysis Writers always write in different styles in order to attract readers. Every piece of writing has different types of rhetorical methods. For example, “If Technology Is Making Us Stupid, It’s Not Technology’s Fault,” there are different types of techniques used to appeal to writers. In parts of the essay it has logic which is known for using logos. The writer uses very strong emotions which is known as pathos.
A Comparison A Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury and The Star by H.G. Wells
Authors use rhetorical strategies to express themes in their writing. Different rhetorical strategies help convey different themes with varying degrees of effectiveness. One way to measure the effectiveness is to rhetorical analyze two pieces of writing to each other and see which is best.
Longaker, Mark Garrett, and Jeffrey Walker. Rhetorical Analysis: A Brief Guide for Writers. Glenview: Longman, 2011. Print.
A rhetorical analysis can be defined as the breakdown of components used to make a persuasive argument or judgment on a particular subject or topic. The ability to make a conclusion or decision on a given thought or idea in a moment of seconds is a result of rhetorical analysis. “Because media rhetoric surrounds us, it is important to understand how rhetoric works. If we refuse to stop and think about how and why it persuades us, we can become mindless consumers who buy into arguments about what makes us value ourselves and what makes us happy”. In Carroll’s essay “Backpacks Vs.
Overall, I would give this class on a scale of one to ten an eight out of ten. The progression from the introduction of discourse communities to the power point on a specific discourse community went smoothly. The course was well thought out and I felt that it touched all of the necessary material for a composition one course. The only issue that I had with the class would be the cancellation of the classes. I know this may be out of your control but It made it difficult for me whenever I had a question, however, being able to email and get a quick response helped fix the issue.
Gradually through the whole semester, Peer Review sessions became a great and positive influence on my writing. It is very helpful to have two people with different views on writing read and critique my paper, and give me feedback on what they think I should improve or correct. We didn’t change peer review groups and I was very delighted because I have gotten a chance to see my group members grow as a writer. When it’s time to revise my paper before I turn it in for a grade, it is very helpful to have some options on what to exactly revise in my paper. For example, in my comparative analysis essay, both of my peer reviewers wrote that my introduction was not effective and i...
Have you ever read a book and then watched the movie and saw many differences? Well you can also find lots of similarities. In the book “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and the movie “Tom and Huck” there are many similarities and differences having to do with the characters personalities, the setting, the characters relationships with one another and the events that take place.
Also, I was able to see how arguments are sometimes so broad that you do not know what way to take them. I believe the biggest help to me through this unit was being able to see where in my writing process I have strengths like authority and logic and where my weaknesses lie like emotions. I feel showing more emotions could become a problem for me when it comes to creative writing, if a have to do it, because I am so used to the template academic and research writing styles. This course is definitely helping me to reshape my writing process and how I look at certain sources. Also how I can tell whether a source is useful in terms of logic, authority, and
"Books and movies are like apple and oranges. They both are fruit, but taste completely different.” said Stephen King (goodreads.com). It is indeed true, books and movies have several common things and yet have differences. They both give us the same story, but are viewed completely different. Reading books and watching movies are similar as they both tell a story and give details and information about the story. Reading books or watching movies gives the reader and the viewer the same feeling and emotions about the story. People can feel gloomy or pleased with the story after reading a book or watching a movie. Both books and movies have the same general concepts, which are the themes and main characters of
