Memes are everywhere and imitate anything we can possibly imagine, from hentai, to cats, to nature and much more. If you can see it, hear it, or think of it, you can make a meme out of it. Then, memes take a life on its own, so it’s like taking real life, imitating it, and then being able to create a new life. 4chan started out as a simple website where people could post content regarding anime. Since it’s been a predominant topic of our discussion, let us talk about the infamous English language. We can be sure that it has painstakingly progressed throughout generations of reevaluation and modernization, and has thus become what it is today. It has gone in several directions to try and mesh with the various epochs of language, from the Shakespearean era to the common English slang we use now, we can all agree that English is a language that has been transcending and will continue to transcend into many
Because of the enormous popularity of reddit, users are able to take unprecedented advantages of the larger communities. Participants can use reddit to raise attention by using some of the largest communities for revolutionary or influential purposes. Reddit really is a community with its own culture and history that increasingly has an effect on the real world. Things like meeting up in person, raising money for charity, holding the largest secret Santa, or sending teachers the supplies they need. But it’s hard to understand what reddit really is about without jumping in and experiencing it yourself. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll wonder how you used the Internet without it.
English is a Language that many people struggle with in the U.S. It can be a daunting task that many American’s have to face. Especially because of all of the domains that make up the English Language.(reading, writing, speaking and listening). There are many factors that can lead to the failure of learning of the English Language. One component is English being a secondary language that is not attended to correctly. Even though there is many reasons the lead to English Language Learners lack of proficiency (example Mr. O’Malley classroom), a strong instructional input, scaffolding, theory, research, ELD standard, and a intervention will not be one of them.
The purpose of this assignment is to explain the impact of English language learners in the classroom. As a foreign student, English language learner in the United States faces multiple challenges for achieving academic success. To successfully complete a task, they need to master both English as a language and how it is used in core content classes especially when they are an adult. When trying to assist in instructing English language learners, they usually have many concepts and language abilities that they need to master, as do the teachers that are trying to teach them. With the incorporation of the concepts and approaches to identify and assess the issues and concerns that we have learned in our classroom instruction, such as lesson preparation,
Born and raised in a small rural town in Taiwan, I never expected to be given the opportunity to be writing this essay today. All the more so, at one of the world’s leading research and teaching institutions in California, UC Davis. Being able to communicate in English fluently--speaking and writing--was something I never thought would happen, nor did I really care about. What would a local Taiwanese boy need to learn English for, in a country with less than 10% of an English speaking population? Being able to form your own sentences, or even write a few comprehensible words in English was already an extraordinary accomplishment for any native Taiwanese children. However, I was inspired to change my views as a language user and taught to be appreciative of the learning process. This change has brought me up from low expectations in learning English to becoming an American college student working my way towards a Bachelor 's degree.
What students need is encouragement and an environment where they can grow. If continuously told that they are incorrect they will feel ostracized, and will be afraid to take the steps necessary to improve themselves in reading and writing in standard English. Rather than making students ashamed of their language, we should seek to teach a transition from that language into Standard English.
...l survival in our society. I work as a counselor each summer at a sports camp in Philadelphia, and each summer I encounter very intelligent students who are placed in lower tracks or labeled as ìlearning deficientî because of their language. This disturbs me because as a speaker of both Black Vernacular speech and Standard English, I know that students can learn to use Standard English just as I have. Unfortunately, many students are not privileged enough to have the same educational opportunities that I was given by my parents, therefore, it is my responsibility to teach these students Standard English the way that I have been taught. But I must learn more about teaching students and dealing with the issues that plague the educational system, and I am looking forward to receiving more of this knowledge during my pre-student teaching and student teaching experiences.
English classes were never truly appealing before AP Lang; five paragraph essays weren’t exactly my style, and the idiosyncrasies of grammar were ignored—to teachers’ consternation—if I wanted to accomplish a
Social movements come and go; they represent all manner of political aspirations, and aim to achieve their political objectives by influencing a particular target group’s opinion. Some groups reach out directly to just a few key decision makers or constituencies, while others act more indirectly by broadcasting their message to as wide an audience as possible. Popular forms of social media have played a significant influence in social movements throughout the last few years. Two prominent examples are Ai Weiwei’s use of the social platform: Twitter, and the use of Yik Yak at the University of Missouri. Social movements rely on the media for the mobilization of political support, validation in the mainstreams discourse, and opportunity to broaden
Throughout high school, english was whatever to me. I never really cared about it other than just getting a paper done and turning it in. I would coast through the class, not putting my full potential into my paper. When I would ask my english teacher to revise my essays, I always received the same feedback “looks good”. I would think to myself like wow I put little amount of effort and my essay still comes out good. That itself made me think that english was pretty easy. Entering english 905, I had no idea what I was getting into. As the semester went on, Professor davis gave me new knowledge that none of my teachers in high school really specified on. Thinking about the way he teaches really makes me think about how my high school teachers
Englishes is a term being used in the place of English in reference to language as the diversity and variety of English is recognised across the globe. The term multiliteracies is a more accurate and encompassing subject then literacy. Time has altered the English language as it has interacted and settled across the different countries and cultures. In Australian classrooms a teacher may encounter many different language customs and speech pattern from not only across the glob but also along a range of social standings in the community. It is essential for teachers to be aware of multiliteracies and a multitude of language variations so every child in the class can have the opportunity to develop multiliteracies and understand others so that
In her article “The Use and Misuse of Academic Words in Writing,” (2012), Andrea Marie Cons compares the writing of students who are developing their English language skills to those who are not native speakers but who have reached a level of proficiency such that they are no longer grouped with second-language learners. While it is true that language is something learned over a lifetime, as new words are invented and new meanings are given to old words, Cons focuses on so-called “academic words” which serve as more enduring markers of academic achievement. Cons refers to students with less developed skills as “English learners” (EL) and to students who were formerly ELs as “redesignated fluent English-proficient” (RFEP).
The point of English classes in high schools all around the world is to read passages, books, and article with the purpose of increasing teenagers’ literacy. Students who read the same books in high school only have a limited range of vocabulary and literacy. This would lead to them having lower IQ levels and a low range of vocabulary. I believe that English schools should incorporate a wider range of texts and passages in order to make teenagers all around the world smarter.
As an active member of the “global village”, Vietnam wants to adopt English as its second language to easily facilitate joint activities with other countries (Kim, 2016). It has become so essential a language that not only did the Ministry of Education and Training make it a compulsory subject for students as young as those into in primary schools, it also set the ambitious initiative that all young people leaving school by 2020 would have a good command of English (Parks, 2011). English, since then, has been studied by a large number of people, mostly by students who wish to be well-prepared for future careers.
I was always struggling to get the points of new grammar reading the textbooks. Besides, I used more the materials for reading and writing in high school than middle school. All lessons were for passing high-ranked university. As I advanced from the first year to the second and third year, I had less time to do communicative activities. In the last year in school, I seldom spoke English in class and lessons were tedious for me. Most of my memories in classes are made up of being suffering from the memorization and recitation. However, at that time, I believed that it was a usual and general English class and did not be suspicious of whether it was meaningful or not. Hence, I was studying English to be successful in the exams in school and entrance examination for university. I had never been curious to communicate with my classmates in
