The terrorist organization of ISIS, the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, has received vast amounts of recognition in media outlets around the world. They are known for their intense acts of violence in the name of Islam and they have become the subject of serious debate amongst politicians, scholars, and clerics. There has been a common association with the phrase “terrorist organization” which dangerously generalizes that the organizations are fueled by singular ideologies, for example; exploitation of religion. For many, this means that when “terrorist organizations” are brought into conversation it is envisioned these organizations are composed of religious extremists. The concept that a terrorist organization is fueled by a singular ideology …show more content…
ISIS is not trying to convert people and they do not want a bigger Muslim following. ISIS’s goal is to gain control over land in order to establish an Islamic Caliphate in the Middle East by force. The organization wants their own land to rule over with their own set of rules. Their primary means of accomplishing that are through creating mass chaos in the region and inducing fear in countries around the world. The goals of the group are fundamentally political and gradually becoming transnational. ISIS wants a reestablishment of the Caliphate by overthrowing the current political institutions in place in the Middle East by force. Their catalyst for making this happen is stirring up as much chaos as …show more content…
In the eyes of ISIS participants, their actions are then safely justified by the leaders of their organization. This allows them to follow without fear of retribution from God. It is important to point out that there is a separation between the leaders of ISIS and its actual followers. The leaders are the ones who are cherry picking from the thousands of hadith to support the actions they need completed. Islamic texts are being used as a means of mobilization of the masses to join their
Throughout Junot Díaz's novel, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, the text poses concerns with narrative viewpoints, familial history of the Dominican Republic, and most importantly, specifies characters. Díaz introduces characters who are present throughout the entire novel, and others who appear only briefly. Isis, in particular, holds a special place in the novel. Before Díaz introduces Isis, we are introduced to many of her family members who maintain family traditions in both the United States and the Dominican Republic. The order of the text enhances our understanding of Isis as a character. Isis stands out as the next generation of her family by living in a familiar place, New York. Isis, a minor character in The Brief Wondrous Life
This is why societies are created, because in order to reach their goals, they need more people that have the same beliefs and determination as they do. For example, in the beginning of Lord of the Flies when Ralph and Piggy find out that they have been stranded on an island, they realize that they have to come up with jobs that certain people will have to take over. For instance, Jack is assigned to have a group of hunters along with his choir boys. They were to acquire meat for all the boys on the island. When Jack realizes it would be easier if they had more people to help, he convinces more of the boys to join his tribe with the excuse that it was for the beast which they all feared, apart from the fact that meat was a necessity for them to survive. Not everyone was adequate for the job, only a certain amount of boys qualified for the job of a hunter. When you want to join something you have to have the characteristics that are needed. The same thing goes for ISIS they need to recruit people to make their society bigger and more successful even though the things that they do may be harmful. The only way that you can get into the group ISIS is if you have the same beliefs as them, other than that, there's no possible way that you will be included in their exclusive
Likewise, Goodwin illustrates how the use of categorical terrorism can be seem being used by Al-Qaida during the attacks of 9/11. Nonetheless, it is evident that Al-Qaida is unusual in terms of using terrorism to influence the rise of unity rather than trying to overthrow a standing state. For the purpose of instigating a pan-Islamic revolutionary movement, Al-Qaida tries to unite all Islamic people under one state to develop umma, or Muslim community. The logic of Al-Qaida remained that if their “revolutionaries” could illicit a reaction from the powerful US state, resulting in oppression of the middle-eastern region, that Al-Qaida could, as a result, unite all Muslims to counter this suggested oppression. Although the end goal of Al-Qaida clear failed, it does suggest the organization’s attempt at implementing categorical terrorism.
The Byzantine-Sassanid War of 602-628 was the final and most destructive of the series of wars fought between the Byzantine Empire and the Sassanid Empire of Persia. The Iran-Iraq War of 1980-1988 was an eight year war between the republics of Iran and Iraq, making it the longest war in the 20th century. The Byzantine-Sassanid war and the Iran-Iraq war were fought over trade, because the warring governments handled the need for control over trade by fighting over the vital areas of the trade routes.
Before we continue, one can argue the influence of the Islamic religion on the Islamic State, but it is more their horribly misguided, militant interpretation which allows them to believe themselves sanctified in their terrorist acts. It is hard to decline an action that is of a god’s order. In Puritanism, the will of God is absolute. The loving message of the Holy Bible that is taught today could be argued to be missing from Puritanism. The right to live or die is entirely at God’s discretion: “so that divine Justice never stands in the Way, it makes no objection to God’s using his Power at any moment to destroy them (Edwards 431),” and if God puts it in you to kill an infidel, what right do you have to question God’s will?
Many terrorists believe that their religion is the only true religion, and they use it to justify violence (“Islamic Terrorism”). Most Muslim terrorists follow Jihad. Jihad is an Islamic perception that the way to integrate their religion is by massive force (“Of True Muslims and Terrorists”). Jihad is considered the “sixth pillar” of faith in Islam because it is the constant fight towards good. It is the idea of focusing on God and turning away from those that oppose God (David E. Long, 91). The terrorists believe that their religion is what everyone should follow, so they would naturally require personnel in power in Muslim states to either convert to their religion or resign from their terms. They will first threaten a leader that if they do not change, the terrorists will use violence. Sometimes, violent acts come about without any warning or previous threats (“Of True Muslims and Terrorists”). Islam is a proselytizing religion, which means it uses violence to convert people to its faith. This is because, in the ...
ISIS started as a break away group of al-Qaeda, one of the most terrible Islamic groups in the world. The stated goal of ISIS is to start a worldwide Islamic caliphate. The areas it controls are ruled under strict
Through their roles as educators and facilitators, the leaders of Al Qaeda and its affiliates leverage the psychology of defeat, generational and transnational transmission, and the teachings of radical clerics to convert potential extremists into terrorists. Terrorist narratives are further advanced by the fanatical interpretations of holy works and the charismatic nature of its leaders. Religious leaders preach with such zeal and assuredness that their interpretations do not leave any room for questioning. This can be a reassuring factor for somebody who is scrutinizing their place in society. According to Hofmann and Dawson, the violent acts are acceptable under the teachings of these charismatic leaders because they are professed to be divinely inspired and acted upon by God’s will (Hofmann & Dawson 2013?, 350).
We all heard of 9/11. I mean who hasn’t heard of 9/11, do you guys know who planned and attacked the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and try to hit the U.S Capitol. It is Osama Bin Laden the dead terrorist and the leader of Al Qaeda. Osama Bin Laden is a terrorist that bombed the U.S and the western philosophy by attacking U.S embassies, the Oklahoma city suicide attack and a lot more suicide attacks that are really dangerous. He was born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 1957 or 1958.
The world today has many problems, the main one being terrorism. It seems as if
A lot of people believe that Muslims, Islam, and/or the Holy Quran encourages killing, fighting, and terrorism. Events such as the 9/11 attack in the United States, the Boston Marathon Bombing, and conflicts in the Middle East causes the media to label Muslims as terrorists. When a specific group of people cause violence to another group it is categorized as ‘hate crime’, but if a Muslim does the same act, the media immediately labels it as ‘terrorism’ (Frater, 2009). As a matter of fact, regarding to the attacks of the mosques in Israel, the media did not use the acts to victimize or stereotype Judaism. Moreover, some extremist groups use Islam as a tactic to gain followers even though a lot of their practices go against the teachings of the Quran. A person would not be considered a Muslim if they spread fear or terrorize others. The Quran clearly states, “You shall not take life, which God has made sacred, except by way of justice and law.” (Quran, 6:151). Islam is against any force or violence towards another person. Often the word ‘Jihad’ is taken out of context by violent militants; it means to strive or struggle for the sake of ones’ self improvement with respect to their spirituality. Religious and political groups use Jihad to justify ...
Political violence is the leading cause of wars today. Personal agendas have led to many of the political objectives that cause violence today this has caused many problems throughout the world and will continue to do so until a solution to this issue is found. Political objectives have been advanced involuntarily dependent upon the kind of government a nation exercises. For instance, in a democratic nation political groups must worry about convincing the majority in order to advance ethically. Those who try to influence the majority through acts of violence are considered today as “terror” organizations. Though perhaps if it were not because of the recent 9/11 terror attacks that maybe such warrants would not be seen as terror attacks, but instead the result of partisan advancement. Acts of terrorism have been around throughout the evolution of mankind. Terror attacks have even been traced back as far as the religious roots of an ancient middle east (Ross, Will Terrorism End?, 2006). However as man evolved, so did terrorism. Today’s extremism involves some of the main characteristics of ancient terrorism, but much more developed. Political advancement is no longer the root cause of terrorism acts. Instead influxes of “holy” wars have been appended the prior definition of terrorism. Mistakably modern terrorism has been confused for Political violence with political objectives, but research will establish that the nature of terrorism is fundamentally different from other forms of political violence.
Terrorism has been around for centuries and religion-based violence has been around just as long. (Hoffman, 2). The violence was never referred to as terrorism though. Only up to the nineteenth century has religion been able to justify terrorism (Hoffman, 2). Since then, religious terrorism became motivated and inspired by the ideological view (Hoffman, 3). Therefore, it has turned against the main focus of religion and more towards the views of the extremist and what is happening politically (Winchester, 4).
This can be one of the most deadly forms of disinformation. A promise is made that the after life will be heaven if you die in the name of Allah (God). That is the promise of many terrorist organizations in the Middle East. Men and woman will happily go inside of a school, filled with little children, strapped with explosives and detonate them selves in the name of God. What god will want this kind of action, the death of innocents for no reason? No god that is the answer. So why do people do these horrific acts against humanity? They are being given false information about a religion, specifically Islam. The group called Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, also know as ISIS, has gained a lot of media attention due to their extremist ways. What differentiates them from other terrorist’s organizations is that they are extremely big and growing. They are telling people lies about the Islamic religion so people will follow them and do their bidding. This is also not new in the Middle East, but people from the Western World are beginning to join. Andre Poulin is an average Canadian boy that left his life behind to go fight for ISIS in Syria. In a video he posted he explains how “his brothers” said how he lives in Canada, pays taxes, and those taxes are used in war against Islam. He tries to convince people to join ISIS and “you will be very well taken care of. You can easily earn a station with Allah in the next life if
So then why that unwanted attraction? Maybe Islam is their getaway to shield themselves from any tangle disastrous situation and being able to escape stating that they are doing it for the good for their religion. Well they forget one thing that peace is not the source of evil. This shows their unwanted relationship with Allah. We would never be abl...
