When people are suppressed, their tolerance reaches a breaking point which can lead to lashing out or the destroying of a society. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the character Piggy snaps at Jack after he was disrespectful and not giving him the opportunity to talk when he holds the honored conch. Throughout the book, Piggy is constantly being harassed and disrespected by his peers because he was different. Piggy becomes exasperated due to the way everyone had been treating him, and it wasn't surprising when he lashed out on Jack. This is why societies are created, because in order to reach their goals, they need more people that have the same beliefs and determination as they do. For example, in the beginning of Lord of the Flies when Ralph and Piggy find out that they have been stranded on an island, they realize that they have to come up with jobs that certain people will have to take over. For instance, Jack is assigned to have a group of hunters along with his choir boys. They were to acquire meat for all the boys on the island. When Jack realizes it would be easier if they had more people to help, he convinces more of the boys to join his tribe with the excuse that it was for the beast which they all feared, apart from the fact that meat was a necessity for them to survive. Not everyone was adequate for the job, only a certain amount of boys qualified for the job of a hunter. When you want to join something you have to have the characteristics that are needed. The same thing goes for ISIS they need to recruit people to make their society bigger and more successful even though the things that they do may be harmful. The only way that you can get into the group ISIS is if you have the same beliefs as them, other than that, there's no possible way that you will be included in their exclusive
