ID Cards One thing that annoys most of the world is the ever changing of identification. One minute you are just telling people your name and carrying on a conversation. The next you are giving them a barcode without even talking to them and going on your way like no one exists. The instigator of this “new” way of living is the ID card. ID cards are a nuisance and should not be used as a person’s life line. ID cards are easily lost. Like credit cards they are small and have importance with everyday activities. People go about scanning their way in and out of work or using them for identification. The ID card can be easily slipped into a pocket or placed in a bag, but once it is in there they can never find it again. Its compact form allows the card to hide in those places unknown to a person and its flexibility allows it to move with the object so they cannot find the card no matter how hard they shake the object. Also, how many times has someone put their card down on a table for five minuets and come back only to see that it is not there anymore? When this happens the person usually ends up frantically searching the entire room, screaming and crying. This is not good because everyone around them starts to feel uncomfortable and wants to leave as soon as possible. This act happens so much though, all because the ID card gets lost very easily and no one likes to look for them. ID cards are very hard to keep track of and that is just the beginning of their problems. Id cards are never a win, win situation. They are almost always lost, stolen, or broken, you name it they do it. ID cards should not be used as a main source of living in society and people should just go back to telling things verbally. Not all people are able to get an ID due to many reasons such as homelessness or not having the ability to update an existing ID before the election. This issue mostly affects disabled or poor persons. Another reason this issue is because certain groups of people, such as Republicans, are trying to tamp down these voters by putting up laws such as these. Those there is a legitimate reason behind these laws, it does prevent a certain amount of people from voting, enough people to swing the vote one direction or another.
In William Safire’s “The Threat of National ID”, he argues against a National ID card. Safire published an article in the New York Times to establish different context. Safire gives details about the use of National ID card at different places in different situations. He emphasizes that many Americans are willing to give up personal privacy in return for greater safety, but none of us have privacy regarding where we go and what we do all the time. Safire disputes that mandatory National ID become necessary for people to prevent fear of terror attack.
The article then follows with “even low id error rates can lead to serious medical errors” further illustrating the dangers associated with incorrect ID’s. Following the study conducted at The University of Kansas Hospital (2003) shows trends that barcoding of patient’s wrist bands has reduced all errors associated with incorrect ID’s. This technique seems to be improving the system so fewer errors do occur, why in general is more economically viable.
Why is personal identity a problem? This seems to be the question of life or death. Your personal identity
National ID cards are applicable in countries all around the world, however, we can say that there exists a huge debate about their purpose and implications that it may provide. This debate has been around for as long as ID cards have been issued, due to different perspectives that people have towards them. For this reason, we have 2 big groups; those who are against ID cards and those who are for them. Since we are in a democratic society, everyone is allowed to have its own unique way of thinking, so it has been mentioned and talked from a lot of people, including writers. William Safire is one of the writers that will be mentioned in this essay as well as Alan Dershowitz. They both state their own perception of ID cards with arguments for
Since 2001, nearly 1000 voter ID laws have been proposed, with several being adopted in over 30 states. The very foundation of a democracy is the right to vote; yet in America today attempts are still being made to silence the voices of citizens that, under the Constitution, should have no obstacle when casting their ballot. Requiring photo ID only eliminates people from the polls, and does not prevent voter fraud that has been too insignificant to change the outcome of any election. In no way are these restrictions benefiting the nation; they only impede the act of voting, not the act of committing fraud. In addition, the costs affiliated with implementing these pieces of legislation can put fiscal stress on the states that choose to finalize these plans.
Biometrics has really been a captivating part of watching new age movies and futuristic stars bring in the 21st century. Yet, most regular people don’t even know what is behind these alluring “tricks”, and what really classifies as a part of the Biometrics field. Something as simple as a pin number you use for an ATM machine would qualify as part of this realm. Other behavioral characteristics can be things such as a voice print, or a signature. Biometrics can also become so technologically advanced that they can use video surveillance to scan who goes in and out of an area...
The play-off between security and usability is evident in pure IDS as well; desensitizing the IDS will allow incidents to go unnoticed, yet too many false positives will cloud the system (or the system administrators). Therefore it is important to understand how the detection mechanisms work.
III. Thesis Statement: Identity Theft is rapidly becoming a national issue because anyone of us could be a victim of identity theft. How we protect our self, keep our information private, identify any signs of identity theft, and report and repair our credit is up to each one of us. We have to be vigilant about our protecting ourselves from criminals.
Mahmoud Darwich was one of the Palestinians who spent his life defending Palestinian problem through his political activism and his literary writings. Identity Card by Mahmoud Darwich, written in 1964, is a poem about Palestinians’ feelings and restrictions on expulsion. He’s expressing in this poem, the spirit of resistance of Palestinians in the face exile. It is extremely praised in Arabic poetry because it demonstrates emblems of the association between identity and land. Individuals that have offshore accounts control accounts through a credit card that has a unique and individual number and secret code. These would often be referred to as “identifier codes” called IBNs (International Bank Account Number)—where the account holder is identified by a sequence of characters—rather than the traditional system of recording names, as defined by National Westminster Bank. An IBN is not to be confused with an account number (though it not uncommon for an account number to be included) as it often varies between countries. Often times, a report must be filed for the purpose of obtaining this information.
“To be ourselves causes us to be exiled by many others, yet to comply with what others want causes us to be exiled from ourselves” (Estes). Mahmoud Darwish could relate to this quote on a very serious level. He was exiled from his homeland, but stayed true to himself and his family. Darwish was born in a Palestinian village that was destroyed in the Palestine War. He became involved in political opposition and was imprisoned by the government. He was later forced into exile and became a permanent refugee. Around 1975, Mahmoud wrote a poem titled “Identity Card”. Mahmoud Darwish writes using diction, repetition, and atmosphere to express his emotions towards exile. He expressed his emotions through poetry, especially “Identity Card”.
The overall recommendation of "…the use of such identification badges to all of our clients." sounds reasonible. A closer look at the conclusion that identification badges alone will resolve the greater issue of employee theft is difficult to support with the amount and type of data given. In today's complex business environment, an identification badge would not address much greater corporate assets and their protection. To the technology industry for ...
