Imagine yourself as a junior in high school, still trying to decide what exactly you want to do with your life. As the youngest child, I was the first out of my sister and I to want to begin exploring the worlds of new possibilities and new places. The beginning of my senior year is when I decided on the career option I wanted to pursue. What helped me was the fact that ever since I was little, there was always one career that always sparked an interest with me and that interest grew the older I became. I spent countless hours researching degree options that would fit my personality and help me decide if this was exactly what I wanted to do the rest of my life and not only that, but spend the money to go to school to obtain the degree needed. …show more content…
In the beginning I was very interested in the Animal Science degree option the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture (NCTA) had to offer. When I got the chance to come to Curtis and go on my first college visit with the school, they had shown us the Vet Tech portion and seeing all of the animals is when I knew that this school was where I wanted to attend. Not particularly the Vet Tech option, but they offered Animal Husbandry which I thought was a perfect match, especially to go work in the animal field working as a caretaker.
The reasons why I chose this degree option is because I want to work with wolves once I graduate. I was able to sit and talk with Barbara Berg during my visit, and explain to her what I hoped I could achieve through attending college. She encouraged me that this was the best option and if I wanted to further my education down the road, she would help guide me in the right direction. I personally really liked the friendly atmosphere the school was showing me.
I felt like they really wanted me to be here, and it wasn’t just for the money, they actually wanted to work hands on and get me to where I want to
Everyone at one point has to make a decision on what they want to be when they grow up. For me, that decision came rather unexpectedly and was a result of a new found interest due to self-discovery. It all began when I was around the age of 8 and I watched a documentary on aircraft. It documented all about planes, how they work and the science behind them. I was immediately captivated and gaining all that information as a young child really hit the spot in terms of a new found passion and interest that I could see myself later using. This passion stuck with me ever since as I have spent tons of spare time studying different types of aircraft and collecting model planes. It ultimately helped me with my answer to the question of what I wanted to be when I grew up as being an aeronautical engineer. It is not a career most would pursue, but it shows how self-discovery impacted me at a very young age and the impact is so log lasting that it has influenced most of the decision I make now in terms of courses I take at school and the extracurricular activities I am a part of. Without self-discovery, I was able to gain an understanding of where my interests lay, the abilities I have to acquire complex information and the feelings I had towards my new found interest and
When people are younger everyone always ask what do you want to be when you are older? Of course when it is children everyone is filled with wonder about their answer whether it’s a model, astronaut, race car driver, etc. Now that I’m older it’s expected for me to know exactly what to do with my life and how to do it. I realized very soon that I sometimes can be an indecisive person when it comes to life-long decisions. This being a huge decision in one’s life you could only imagine how many times I’ve changed my idea on what to go to school for. Although, changing my mind become a norm, I eventually decided a degree in business/marketing is the right path for me. What are my career and educational goals, what will my job would be like, and
I’m quite curious as to what my life will be like in five years. Will I be on the beach with my hot boyfriend? Will I be sleeping all day in my California King? Or will I just be some lame college student doing homework on a saturday night? Who knows which one will be me, but I’m sure it’s neither of the first two. Looking forward, I hope to at least have a plan. I might not be out on the beach or be getting a full night’s sleep, but I hope that I’m at least happy.
I remember a time in my life when I would always play with little children. At that point, at the age of six or seven, I decided to become a pediatrician or a kindergarten teacher. When I started high school, I started feeling stressed out because of the pressure that I was doing to myself to reach my goal of becoming a pediatrician. I could hardly focus on the topic we would have during class because I would be thinking about my future as a pediatrician. With the help of my friends, they helped me overcome the obstacles that I had. The more I thought about what profession I wanted to be, I thought about how much I loved working and dealing with computers. My friends and cousins told me that I should and can be what ever I wanted, and that helped me decide to major in computer engineering at San Jose State University. So you see when it comes down to life, dreams are not the only thing that can keep men going, friendships, pets and companionships can do the same.
Science became my favorite subject. I developed a love for learning about science including everything from environmental studies, to genetics, to anatomy, to astronomy, etc. When I started my first semester at Harford Community College in the Fall of 2014, I set out for a job in a veterinary clinic. I needed more clinical experience to eventually get into vet school. I had heard about the Veterinary Assistant program at HCC and wondered if that would be a program worth pursuing.
As we begin to grow up and come to the end of our high school career we must start to begin to start thinking about what type of career we want to be in. It is very important that a person picks the right type of career for them. Otherwise you will be unhappy with what you are doing and will not enjoy it at all. I am not entirely sure what I want my career to be but I have a pretty good idea as to what type of job it will be. I would like to go into the field of a physical therapist and sports medicine, I fell I will enjoy this more than any other type of career just because I already have a lot of interest in it.
Intro Deciding what you want to study during your college career can be a difficult and tedious task. This is due to fact that many young adults coming out of high school are unsure of what they want to do or what path to take career wise. It is also tedious because this requires that these individuals have to constantly try and explore new avenues so that they can find their passion in life. The path I chose to take when coming out of high school was entering the business school at Howard University.
Growing up around animals, when I had the opportunity to join the Future Farmers of America (FFA) in high school, I took it and began developing my passion for agriculture at a young age. I am also a longtime member of a 4-H club as well, where I had even more opportunities to explore the agriculture industry. Through this and other things such as exhibiting livestock in fairs and shows around the state, I not only developed my passion for agriculture, but also discovered my college major and the career that I want to pursue after college.
Just recently I have been accepted to Texas A&M University I have also decided my degree choice will be biomedical science. With a biomedical science degree I have over fifty career choices I can go into. Also, this is my backup plan if I am not accepted into vet. School right away. The choices of careers range form agricultural economist, animal breeder, dentist, game manager, veterinarian assistant, and even zoologist. I have decided that what ever my career will be, it will be in agriculture and will deal with animals. Animals are so interesting and tricky they can’t tell you what is wrong with them like people can. With animals you have to find out for yourself.
Ever since my older brother attended Tarleton State University and talked extremely highly of the time he spent there, I have had a dream of attending there myself when I had the opportunity to. Now that I have the chance to attend this great school I am thrilled at the chance. I became interested in the Environmental Engineering field from my involvement in the FFA. By completing different experiments to compete in the Agri-science Fair, I realized before my senior year that this is what I wanted to pursue in life. I have always had a passion for the scientific and mathematical fields, so I knew that this field would fit my interests perfectly. I have also gained numerous skills form the FFA that I would not have gained had I not joined my
If I could go back in time to my last year of senior year in high school, I would tell my undecided, scared of moving on, and unsure self to pursue a career in Occupational Therapy. It was definitely one of those "if only" moments in my life I wish I could re-due again. In High School there was not much information given to me about Occupational Therapy and it seemed it was not as popular as all the other career choices I was being informed or pressured to pursue. As I completed an online career assessment test provided by my High School to determine the best career/s based on your skills and interests, I got a list of potential careers that ranged from primary careers to the least careers I should pursue. As I excitedly looked over the results and thought to myself, finally this might give me an answer to what I am meant to do.
I’ve just entered my senior year of high school. I know that this is a very important year. I have a lot of decisions to make and not much time to make them. These decisions will either make or break my life, and I want to make sure that I make them to the best of my ability because there is no turning back. I need to make sure I definitely want to attend college. The decision is totally up to me. There are many positives and negatives of attending college. Go over them, and then decide. I know myself better then anyone else, and I won’t let anyone else tell me what to do. I will make sure if I am going to attend college that I have something in mind that I will want to do, to succeed in. Choosing a major can be a very stressful situation so why not sit down and take some time to do it? Be creative, don’t rush, give yourself plenty of time and really think about what interests you in life. My major is something that I will want to enjoy, something that I will be doing for the rest of my life. Why would I want to be miserable at something I do in life? In two short essays: “College? What’s in It for me?” by Steven M. Richardson, and “What It Means to Be Creative”, by S.I. Hayakawa, I can relate to my major very well. Athletic Training is something that takes skill, as well as being creative in your own way. No two Athletic Trainers are the same. The more creative I am at whatever I do, the better off I will be. I hold the keys to all the doors that can ...
Thinking back at it, that is a huge weight on someone’s shoulders. You are asking a young teenager what they want to do with their life. That’s the biggest question you can ask someone, but yet we all were asked this numerous times, and not everybody is always prepared to even think about the rest of their life at that age. Coming into college as a determined freshman, one “thinks” they know exactly what they want to do with the rest of their whole life. Now this may be the case for some but definitely not all.
Growing up is scary. Especially when the future is unpredictable, finding the right job can reduce this. It is tough as a kid to think about how to spend the time in the future and what to be doing as a career. There are a lot of decisions to be made. For example, in order to pick the accurate college it is worthy to know what interests me as an individual. There are questions that can be answered that will be able to suggest a better idea of what jobs apply. Well, in the future I would like to have a career as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Choosing a career is a big step. It’s important that you make sure to find the career that’s right for you. The first thing to do is to think about who you are. What are your interests? What type of personality do you have? What jobs might be a good fit for these characteristics? When you pick a few job matches, make sure to read about them. Decide if you think they will be a good match for you. When you think you have found the right one for you, you need to make a plan and set goals on how you are going to succeed in this career choice. Maybe a few years of college are necessary, maybe not. Then when you get to the step where you are ready to start looking for work, you will need to develop a cover letter and resume, and go on job interviews. All this will determine whether or not you get the job you are applying for.
