They are licensed to see and treat patients, treating them with therapy or mental and behavior issues the patients might have. A Psychologist cannot give the patient's medication because they don’t have a medical degree, Psychiatrists can give medication because they do get medical degrees. Psychologists can be a licensed Psychologist with a degree level of bachelor's, masters or Ph.D.’s. The skills required for Psychologists are simple science and maths abilities, excellent communication and listening skills, empathy and the ability to deal with people in distress, decision-making skills that are accurate and logical, IT skills too. A Clinical Psychologist with a masters degree would earn from $10,000-130,000 a year in New York City. If I was to move to Connecticut which isn’t too far from New York City, the annual salary would be 53,850-120,350. So It wouldn’t go up much the growth rate would be the same 19%. My major is Psychology and I would like to get a masters degree, in order to do that I would have to get work experiences which I don’t have. Work experiences like volunteering in the American Red Cross organization or Safe Horizon, where you can really get experience and help people in need. Also, a part-time internship can be helpful for your
People across the world participate in recovery programs every day. Dedicated people in professions, such as occupational therapy, work to help each person regain his or her ability to engage in everyday activities. One wishing to pursue a career in occupational therapy would first need to evaluate the career and the significant effects on themselves and the clients.
I observe people around me and try to as well understand their actions and why they react the way they do in certain situations. The more I realized that I like to help people with their problems, the more I realized that I was in the right field to help people understand their own life better. I don’t always have the answers but, I do what it takes to understand a situation more so that I am able to get the answers. I believe that my purpose is to help people understand their life a little better and speak great over their lives. I would mostly like to help children out so that I am able to help them understand their feelings. Children are usually more vulnerable than anyone else in the world. Becoming a practitioner scholar in this field means learning about different mental illness so that I am better prepared when I encounter different patients. I took and abnormal psychology class where we briefly went over each mental disorder but I would like to be able to go more in depth. During my time in this class we did several case studies, where I learned to diagnose different clients and give possible treatments. I would like to go beyond this method and learn more as I get more into clinical psychology. Also I would like to indulge more in
Nothing will deter me from achieving my goal of becoming an Occupational Therapist. I have
The career I have chose is Physical Therapy(PT). Physical Therapist do many different things, but their main function is to help impaired or physically disabled people enhance their movement and handle their pain. Physical Therapist are a main source in the rehabilitation, medical care and prevention of people with long lasting illnesses or damage. The reason I chose this career is because I love helping people and enjoy seeing people be motivated and succeed at their task. To help someone gain full strength in their limbs or maybe even learn how to walk again is my lifelong dream. It is important to understand the education or training requirements, skills or talents needed, salary and benefits offered, and the duties for a particular career

We are all born to live, not to simply exist. Experiences in life have taught me there is a purpose behind each individual’s existence. Discovering this purpose, has been challenging. My educational and professional background have helped shape my immediate and long term professional goals. Becoming an Occupational Therapist has become both my immediate and long-term goals in life.
A career in clinical psychology is one that will be promising for anyone seeking to pursue this career. A clinical psychologists’ educational training is a dead-ringer for success, if completed with a doctorate. A doctorate for a clinical psychologist is the best way to get ahead and have the upper hand in this field. A clinical psychologist’s salary is one that will be growing steadily along with the number of growing demands for psychologists. Anyone who chooses to pursue clinical psychology, that fits the profile for the job, will be set and secure. Clinical psychology is a bright career that I hope to someday enter into, following the pathway that my research has yielded; with that, I may begin my journey.
My first semester in college, I took a Psychology 101 course and immediately knew I wanted to work in this field. I was drawn into different theories and how individual’s minds work. I always believed I was born to help others and guide them to success in life. I desire to help others because of my own personal struggles with mental illness. My unique perspective on mental illness allows me to empathize on a different level with individuals. I desire to give back and support to the community the way it was there for me during my dark times. I was lucky to have known from the start that psychology was my interest. I am excited to continue my education in the counseling field and become a future Clinical Mental Health Counselor.
I am currently a junior Psychology major with minors in Sociology and Human Development. Additionally, I am taking prerequisite courses in order to apply for an Accelerated Bachelor’s in Nursing Program. My ultimate life goal is to become a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or a Neonatal/Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. These goals are manifested in the classes I am taking, as well as the real world experience I am gaining.
There are hundreds of different careers in the medical field ranging from neurosurgeons to nurse practitioners. Psychiatry deals specifically with the diagnosis and treatment of mental, behavioral, and emotional ailments. The main purpose of a psychiatrist is to help people coop with issues and stress in their environment that make it difficult to lead a normal and healthy lifestyle. These issues may arise from abuse, addiction, mental disability, disease, or physical injury. It is the psychiatrist’s job to ensure the patient can maintain a healthy attitude and continue to provide for themselves. A Psychiatrist may choose to specialize in many sub classes of mental health including children and adolescents, geriatric psychiatry, addiction, and pain management. While requiring an intense and difficult education, the occupation in psychiatry is one that offers meaningful, fulfilling work and a high-end salary.
As I crossed the finish line, I immediately could recognize where my family was located. My father, mother, and three sisters were all yelling with excitement that I had just beat my personal record for my half marathon time. My family is not ashamed to show their unconditionally support for me and my passions. When I mentioned I wanted to become an occupational therapist in eighth grade they took me seriously, my mother found every book in the library about occupational therapy and checked them out so I could read them. My father found articles foe me about the impact that occupational therapists have in the community. To this day, he still sends me every article he finds. I have learned about videogames improving home exercise programs for
As reported by NASP, “to become a school psychologist, you will need to complete a graduate school program that awards a degree (specialist-level and/or doctorate) specifically in school psychology.” In general, students starting graduate school after earning a bachelor’s degree can earn their master’s while they work towards a specialized degree such as an Ed. S (Education Specialist). The specialized degree of an education specialist is highly recommended for people who are going to be a school psychologist. Most school psychologist earn their masters and then a specialized degree such as the Ed.
Many associate psychology with sitting in a chair in a small office as someone taking notes, asking how you feel about a certain event or feeling, analyzing your deepest secrets and memories. However, it branches off into many other fields. A clinical psychologist’s main job is “to reduce the distress and improve the psychological wellbeing of clients” (Bond). This can include anything from depression, eating disorders, and addiction, to mental illness, family and personal relationships, and learning disabilities (Bond). A clinical psychologist usually will choose to have an emphasis in a certain field such as children and learning disabilities and work in schools or social work facilities, or mental illness and work in a hospital (Bond). According to Vicki Cohen, people “typically are referred or come to therapy because they have a symptom”. These are defined by emotional, social, and or physiological.
Graduate school is the next step in what can help me achieve my goal of becoming a therapist as there are no jobs for a mental health care professional who does not have a graduate degree. In order to make my dream a reality, I need more knowledge because being able to listen to someone and get them to open up and trust you is only one part of being a successful therapist. I will need to supplement my existing skill of getting people to open up to me with the knowledge of how to clinically treat them to help them overcome whatever challenges or trauma they have faced. Based on the work I did this summer, I am leaning towards wanting to work with teenagers because those were the students that I connected to the most.
D in Psychology, but I do know I have a way to go. The first level of achievement is earning my Bachelor's degree which can take about 4 years. Some students may also earn a master's degree in psychology which last at least to 2 years. After I am admitted into a Doctorate program which may last at least 4 years, it would generally take 1 year to complete earning my Ph. D and an internship. Once I achieve these requirements, I can take state and national exams to become licensed to practice psychology in the state where I wish to work.
