A myth can be defined as a widely held but false belief or idea. In today’s society, there are many myths about men and women that are frequently believed by society. The statement that women are better caregivers than men is a myth that is commonly believed by today’s society. Typically,when people think of a caregiver, they automatically think of a woman. In the essay I Want a Wife, Judy Brady states all of the “duties” that a woman has as a wife, and as a caregiver. Today many men perform some of the duties that are performed by the women in I Want a Wife. Men and women sometimes have different approaches to caregiving, but this does not mean that one gender’s way of taking care of someone is better than the other’s. For example, women tend to multitask while caregiving, but men usually try to concentrate on one thing at a time (Kember). It has also been observed that when difficult situations arise while caregiving, men tend to think clearly under pressure in order to solve the problem. In similar situations, it has been observed that women become emotional, and are not able to think as clearly (Kember). In many cases, the typical roles of men and women are reversed. The woman becomes the main provider for the family, and the man stays at home to take care of the children. It had been proven that children have benefitted from having stay at home fathers. According to “Advantages of the Stay-at-Home Dad,” a child with a stay at home father is more likely to have higher grades, better behavior, and fewer anxiety disorders. So, there are several advantages to stay at home fathers. However; there are also many advantages to stay at home mothers. It is proven that children with stay at home mothers have more stability in their lives. Men and women are equally qualified in taking care of children, and being stay at home
