One of the reasons why divorce rates are high now, is because women are economically independent because they are educated. They did used to earn in the past, but now they have control over their income and they don’t put up with things like men abusing them or domestic violence; this shows that women have become stronger economically and emotionally as compared to how they were in the past. Those who criticize women for working and not spending time with their children, Coontz states that, “Kids do better when their mothers are happy with their lives.” (Coontze98). Men have changed as well; men didn’t used to think that children were their responsibility.
In the 19th Century it was the Father who was known to be the one that worked, or the breadwinner for the family. However, after World War II we began to see a shifting in this as the women’s right’s movement took place and women began to get paid more for working and now entered the workplace regularly. This also occurred because of the great economic growth that was occurring at the time. So as things changed economically, the family progressed with it as well. However, not all was a positive progression as during this time we also began to see divorce increase as well as and increase in the number of women who became pregnant without having been married. These were huge changes and shifts in the family dynamics as the family became under pressure from the ever-changing economics and culture. With both parents entering the workforce, little supervision is given to the children. This was totally unlike the Leave it to Beaver family, the Cleavers in which only the father went to work and the mother had time to care for the kids. Having both parents work definitely cut into family time or time that in the past had been spent between parents and children. This gave way to leaving society an open door in having a greater impact on children then they would have received at home through the training and modeling of their parents. Because of their thinking to progress with the world around them and in the way the world was progressing in thought, it left an open door for their families to become impacted negatively by
Over the years, the roles of women have drastically changed. They have been trapped, dominated, and enslaved by their marriage. Women have slowly evolved into individuals that have rights and can stand on their own. They myth that women are only meant to be housewives has been changed. However, this change did not happen overnight, it took years to happen. The patriarchal society ruled in every household in earlier times and I believe had a major effect on the wives of the families. “The Story of an Hour”, “The Yellow Wallpaper”, and Trifles all show how women felt obligated to stay with their husbands despite the fact they were unhappy with them
Most of them point out that the support of their husband helps them get more confidence when making decisions for themselves and solve aspirational shames (88 comments equivalent to 15.14%). They can share household duties together or hire a housekeeper, then the wife has more time to care about themselves and their careers. If the husband cannot sympathize and support for their dreams, women are willing to leave their marriage life or find another who have more understanding.
From the very beginning of history, women were portrayed to be insignificant in comparison to men in society. A woman was deemed by men to be housewives, bear children and take care of the household chores. Even so, at a young age girls were being taught the chores they must do and must continue through to adulthood. This idea that the woman’s duty was to take charge of household chores was then passed through generations, even to this day. However, this ideology depends on the culture and the generation mothers were brought up in and what they decide to teach their daughters about such roles.
Traditional families are becoming a thing of the past. Women are no longer staying at home and assuming their womanly roles that society once expected from them. Due to their choices and living environment, they have to do what they can to raise the children that being into this world.
I grew up in a household where I was constantly reminded of the difference between the role of the male and the female in the society. The role of the male is to earn a good income and provide for his family whiles the role of the female is to take care of duties such as clean up after the family and take care of things such as cooking and helping the children with their homework. For the last twenty years, which is my whole life, this is how things happened in our household, but it is slowly but surely fading away and the reason for this, is because of the changes in the environment. Back in the day when my parents were younger they were forced to accept that that is the way
Which means that in this society family is top priority. To the women is this era, loyalty to their loved ones is highly expected.
One being financial support for the family. For years, men where the bread winners for the family now women are stepping up to the plate in being the financial support for the family. This has caused many problems in the household for men and women. Men start to feel as though they are less of a man and women start to feel as though they do not need the man not factoring in the children that are involved. One thing that men and women forget is that the father has the potential to influence, develop, and make a difference in the life of the child if he is involved in the child’s care and
Since the 1950’s, women have been seen as very dainty and sensitive creatures who are meant to be silent partners to their mates. A woman’s place was in the home-cooking, cleaning and watching after her children. Women were to get up every morning and prepare lunches for their breadwinning husbands, as well as wake and dress the children for school, cook breakfast, do housework and have a hot meal on the table when her husband was to return home. Women have stepped down to their traditional roles as housewife and caretaker, and it has raised many issues in society today. It was considered a woman’s job to be a good cook and be a whiz with a broom, in fact, it is what made them so darn attractive. Times, they are a changing. In fact, the U.S Department of Labor states that in the year 2008, women will make up 48% of the work force. That means that more women will be going to college and getting and education, as well as heading out into the workforce to make a name for themselves.
Marriage has gone through many changes throughout its history. It's earliest forms date back to the story of creation. It has developed a great deal since then. It is a simple fact that men and women can not survive without each other. Marriage is part of the created natural order, we were meant to be together.
However; if marriage wants to be happy, each of them need to give their best to have a good relationship, they also have to respect each other, have patience and always talk about their problems or dreams. As a matter of the fact that romantic love is essential and that exists, some marriages have been together for more than fifty years; their secrets are not expensive, or impossible ones, in fact, they are as familiar and accessible as patience, love, and respect. Today's couples should value the essence of marriage and should put on a scale what is most important and give their beloved the value they deserve. It is essential to learn to love as couples did before
So it seems that it is not simply being married that offers benefits and marital stability, but it is what people do in marriage that offers benefits and maintains the marriage (actively doing behaviors to maintain the marriage–being committed beyond being satisfied). Marital satisfaction being a catalyst for marital stability is beneficial to the extent that marital satisfaction does not decline, but this is problematic considering marital satisfaction is inconsistent throughout marriage. It is vital then to examine commitment and marriage, as commitment seems to be a more reliable factor that buffers against divorce and supports marital stability according to the literature.
In the past, many people believed that women’s exclusive responsibilities were to serve their husband, to be great mothers and to be the perfect wives. Those people considered women to be more appropriate for homemaking rather than to be involved in business or politics. This meant that women were not allowed to have a job, to own property or to enjoy the same major rights as men. The world is changing and so is the role of women in society. In today’s society, women have rights that they never had before and higher opportunities to succeed.
