Imagine living in a world where everyone gave up when things got hard. The world would be complete chaos. It wouldn't be fun and nothing would ever get done.The theme never give up is portrayed throughout these two stories, " I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings" and " Harriet Tubman: The Guide to Freedom". It shows that even though both women went through hard times they got through it and stayed strong, and they prove to us and show us that we should never give up.

The character Harriet Tubman and the book itself are great examples of the theme never give up. On page 134, it talks about how she was rejected at a house because she had to many slaves. Even though she was rejected she still tells the slaves to never give up. This shows the theme because it shows how she doesn't give up even though she is in danger helping the slaves. Her effect on others was a major part of showing the theme. She gave all of the slaves she helped a sense of gratitude and showed them even though she put herself in so much danger she never gave up on helping them. Throughout all the trips she made, she made sure to never give up. Then, when she says " We got to go free or die" (133), it really …show more content…

The first example is how on page 26, it talks about how when Marguerite (Maya) was 10, she returned to her home from a visit to St. Louis with her mother and how when she got home she became depressed and withdrawn. (Angelou 26). The reason this works is because even though she stopped talking during her depression, she still managed to her school life and participated in school. Later on in life Maya became very motivational and even when she struggled with her depression and many other problems, she never gave up. She stayed strong through the problems life gave her, and that's why Maya Angelou's story "I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings" fits with the theme never give
