Most of us go to the Doctor for a regular check-up once or twice a year. During those visits, the Doctor usually checks your height and weight; your ears, and eyes; he/she listens to your heartbeat with a stethoscope, and also uses a sphygmomanometer (which is the blood pressure cuff) to measure your blood pressure. High blood pressure is a condition that many people suffer today. The proper term for it is hypertension. Today, I will be discussing what hypertension is, what causes it, and how to treat and prevent it. Hypertension, according to the mayoclinic, is a condition where your heartbeats blood through your arteries with a high magnitude of force, which can eventually lead to heart problems due to damaged arteries and blood vessels. …show more content…

According to Webmd, some popular medications that people with hypertension take are Lisinopril, Atenolol, and Benicar. These medications on top of lifestyle changes are required to control and/or prevent high blood pressure. The National Health Service says controlling sodium and fat intake and instead, eating lots of fruits and vegetables can greatly benefit blood pressure level. Other ways include cutting the amount of caffeinated drinks like coffee and energy drinks because they provide periods of energy that are couple with high blood pressure. Losing weight and exercising is another treatment and prevention method for high blood pressure. If someone talks to their Doctor about ways to treat and prevent hypertension, these are some suggestions they may mention. Hypertension may be a common condition, but looking at it long-term, it is a very destructive one. It leads to many heart complications that can be avoided by taking care of your health. Taking preventative measures such as eating well and exercising are two easy ways to reduce your likelihood of being diagnosed with hypertension. Be safe and be healthy. Thank
