Genre
The genre of this novel is dystopian. Dystopian is a state in which everything is unpleasant or bad. This is seen in the novel when they boys try to establish order but it doesn’t work out and everything starts to go downhill. The tv shows Lost was inspired by the novel because they have a presence of a beast on the island which was significant in the novel. The movie Hunger Games because a group of people was put in an isolated place and forced to figure out how to get out of there. The reality tv shows Survivor is very similar to the novel because in the beginning of every season every group is working together, however, half way through the season they split like Ralph and Jack do and try to fight for power. There are several movies
Once everyone arrives they elect Ralph as chief. They decide to explore the island and start a signal fire which the hunters have to maintain. The fire ends up spreading and “killing” one of the littluns. The hunters struggle to maintain the fire because they are preoccupied in hunting for a pig. The day a ship passes by the fire dies out because the hunters were busy catching a pig. A meeting is called to address the issue and the topic of the beast is brought up. While SamnEric were on night duty a parachute with a dead body falls down which the boys presume to be the beast which instigates the hunt for the beast. During the hunt, the differences between Jack and Ralph grow. Jack decides to leave and start his own group. Ralph starts a new fire down by the beach while most of his tribe joins Jacks. Jack and his tribe going hunting and decide to give the head of the pig to the beast as a peace offering. Simon encounters the “beast” when he is hallucinating. However, when he later wakes up he realizes that the beast isn't real but everyone's imagination and goes to inform everyone. When he arrives everyone is singing a chant and think that Simon is the beast they kill him. The next night Jack's tribe attacks Ralph's tribe to get Piggy’s glasses to start a fire. When Piggy and Ralph go to retrieve the glasses Roger throws a boulder down killing Piggy. Ralph is left alone and hiding from everyone. The forest is
They were used to light the fire which provides the boys with a way to cook their food, stay warm and have a signal to get home. The glasses were essential which is seen when Jack says, “His specs - use them as burning glass” (Golding 40). “My specs! One side broken” (Golding 71) shows the boys starting fall apart and when the glasses are again stolen and then broken completely it shows that the boys have become uncivilized because right after Piggy is killed.
Simon - Represents the goodness in a society. He always wants to help everyone whether it is the littluns, Piggy, Ralph, or Jack. He always looked at the good side of things. He told Ralph, “You’ll get back to where you came from” (Golding 111). That was significant because it showed how he was always thinking positively about everything that was going on. He was also the only one on the island that had figured out that the beast isn't anyone but them or their
In both books they share some traits, even though they may not look anything alike they are. both of these novels are dystopian novels and many characters share similarity’s.
Every chapter, these three boys, have demonstrated they have great behaviour on the island in comparison to the rest of the group. But it was tiring to constantly have an acceptable attitude because the other boys would not be so pleasant towards them. First, Ralph represented democracy, from the time he crash landed upon the sand, strategies on how to be rescued flowed in his head. He was introduced to the conch and from that point he assigned daily tasks and rules that would be completed so the island would not go insane such as creating shelter, where to dispose waste and if the conch was in your hands, you were able to speak. Next, Piggy represented scientific facts.
The book The Hunger Games is full of critical scenes. A critical scene is a type of scene that is necessary for the book to have a story. One very important critical scene is when Prim was chosen at the reaping. When she was chosen Katniss decided to take her place as a tribute. Why did Katniss take her place? What could have happened if she didn't take her place?
In conclusion, Ralph and Simon were the two characters that were different from the rest. They were different in a good way. This just goes to show you that there is always good in whatever you do and wherever you are, you just need to express
Simon was the first and only one to realise the real beast on the Island. He could be compared to someone like a priest or a good samaraton – someone who tries his best to convince everyone of what’s right.

The main characters of this novel are Ralph, Jack, Simon, and Piggy. Ralph, who represents civilizing instinct, is elected as the leader of the group of the boys and tries to promote harmony among themselves. Even though he seeks to lead the group and defeats Jack in the election, he doesn’t try to dominate people. Rather, he focuses on the group’s common interest of being rescued. For example, he gives responsibility to the hunters to keep a signal fire while he tries to make a shelter. Unlike Ralph, Jack would like to dominate people. This is especially evident once he becomes the leader of the hunters on the island. He tends to show the other boys how strong and brave he is while expressing his dominance over them. By the end of the novel, Jack usurps Ralph to become the general leader, in which position he shows how barbaric and cruel he can be.
My personal experience and the books I have read provide cogent examples that not only support my opinion but also have influenced me to come to my conclusion on the psychological aspect of mankind’s essential illness. The plot of The Hunger Games revolves around killing other people to escape alive. Much like the boys on the island, the characters in this book follow the same descent into savagery to kill to survive instead of hanging onto the last bits of civilization inside them by following their morals. They completely abandon civilization for the sake of their survival much like Jack does in Lord of the Flies. In addition, whenever I get angry, I have a similar experience. Though it is not for my survival, I sometimes get carried away
Piggy's glasses, or “specs” as they are referred to in the story, contribute in many ways to both the plot and character development/descriptions, but their contribution to the boys' survival is probably the most important. Upon discovering themselves on the island, Piggy, and eventually almost all the other boys, realize the necessity for a signal to alert any adults in the area of their presence. After understanding this, they further recognize that they need a signal fire to aid in their discovery. The only problem with this ingenious plan is the lack of fire-starting equipment. Jack points to Piggy's glasses, and exclaims that they should "use them as burning glasses!" (Golding, pg 52). The problem with this newly created fire, however, is that it gives Jack and his band of hunters a reason to hunt (for the meat). They would be unable to cook the pigs otherwise. This is in a way ironic, as the fire is supposed to save the children, but the hunting that derives from it is the cause of a...
Money is power in the U.S. and as such society is controlled by the powerful. Shall a film maker (writer, director, or producer) want their film to be a box office success the film must be created by the normative standards that have been set by those controlling the industry. Typically those regulating the media are the banks and a number of media companies (Horne, 2001; Mantsios, 2013). The Hunger Games (2012), directed by Gary Ross, is no different in the way that it lures the audience to anticipate and praise the film but lacks to extrapolate the subtle message of class inequality to its audience. Additionally the film fails at thoroughly considering class division and challenging race relations and hints subtly, but significantly, at racial inequality.

In a not-too-distant, some 74 years, into the future the United States of America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war, to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 13 districts. Each year, two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games; these children are referred to as tributes (Collins, 2008). The Games are meant to be viewed as entertainment, but every citizen knows their purpose, as brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts. The televised games are broadcasted throughout Panem as the 24 participants are forced to eradicate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. The main character throughout the series is a 16-year-old girl from District 12 named Katniss Everdeen.
A small Caribbean island can become one of the most notorious places throughout the world for being dystopian, and having oodles of communism, and these whereabouts exist, it is a country called Cuba, which was formerly controlled by Fidel Castro. Castro was a young man of Cuba, who became the Prime Minister, and became the dictator for over 45 years, and made the Cuban Revolution start. Some well- known things about Castro include the fact that he was born on August 13, 1926, and has now lied in his grave since November 25, 2016. When analyzing the ways that Cuba and Fidel Castro made adjudications that created a dystopian society among their citizens, one can evaluate what changes Cuba’s government made that was so influencing and controlling
Dystopia is a term that defines a corrupt government that projects a false image. Thus, in a dystopian society, making belief and comfort that the society is proper to its followers.
