I hope you find well. I would like to go this weekend to our family meeting. I know there's going to be a grill, friends and good meat, besides those who live outside are visiting for our cousin’s birthday. But this time, I'm going to avoid joining. Do not take it bad, I always feel welcome in your house and you are a good host, but I have to say: you drink too much, and worse, you make people drink too much. It's not that I do not know how to enjoy a good beer or a short drink, but it seems that you have not understood that there is a distance between drinking one or two glasses and drinking two or three bottles. Apparently, my friend, you do not understand a NO: “I can’t drink because I’m driving”. When someone rejects you a drink you feel …show more content…
I remember one time we were at a restaurant with our friends and all of us mentioned the problem you have with alcohol; you looked at us offended. I'll tell you again: you have a problem. One thing is to celebrate with family or friends, gathering with a drink or two; and another very different thing is to turn every social occasion into an opportunity to drink heavily. You don’t know when to stop drinking. My best advice for you is to seek for help as soon as possible. Alcoholism is a chronic disease and you need to get yourself out of it. If they arrest you because you are driving under the influence of alcohol or the police come to a party where you have been drinking, you may find yourself in a position where we can not protect you. Life is a choice. You can believe, naively, that fate rules you, that life is mad at you, that luck is not on your side and that you were born to suffer, but, in short, it's just excuses that you wear not to take the helm and to race the storm. Getting a drunk once a week is not normal, it is not for anyone and should not be for you. If you continue having this problem you will lose your family, your friends, your job, everything you love in life will be gone. Even your own life will be destroyed and you can end up dead. Alcohol is the most common drug used nowadays. We see it on television, ads, and movies like is the best and happiest way to have fun. It is normal
Especially on holidays, how do we say or questioned our friends, family and loved ones that you had too much to drink? That’s a questioned I tend ask myself all the time. And, when you do say to them that they had enough, that’s where a rivalry tend to occur and where the major problem starts in so many families today.
There was not a large ethnic or racial minority presence, with only one Hispanic male in attendance. The oldest female in the room, did become the chair of the meeting (a decision reached by group consensus). The meeting progressed with each person allowed a time to speak if they so desired. As it was Thanksgiving Day, the first topic was the ways in which you are thankful. In the literature, as mentioned above, it shows that one of the main factors that could contribute to problem drinking is spending a lot of time around people who drink heavily (Gomberg, 1991).
Many of my relatives were alcoholics. There was never a family brunch, dinner, or casual gathering that was not centered around alcohol. The excessive and consistent reliance on alcohol fueled the arguments and shouting matches I witnessed between my male relatives. Their arguments were always laden with racist, sexist, and classist hatred. My female relatives were silent, resentful observers of the flying slurs who found solace in their own alcoholic stupors.
In some cultures, there are situations that involves drinking. These include: birthday parties, New Year’s festivities, graduations, weddings receptions, Fourth of July, Christmas and Mardi Gras. In these holidays, people usually drink in excess to have a good time and celebrate. Different countries specialize in different types of alcohol, such as: the Italian have really good wine, Mexico is known for beer and tequila, Ireland is famous for beer and whiskey, Japan has their own beverage called Sake, and the United States is known for beer, wine, and whiskey. In these cultures, drinking alcohol is an acceptable type of celebration that teenagers even participate in. Not all alcohol consumed is in celebration. Therefore, “the top 20 percent of drinkers consume approximately 30 percent of all alcohol drunk over a 12-month period” (Grant 290).
Alcoholic beverages make their appearance in many places other than the local bar or liquor store. These drinks have been known to be consumed at social
Occasionally, others try to influence me to drink. Sometimes, I am tempeted; however, I know that I would not be true to myself if I submitted. I realize drinking is not somthing I want, nor is it in my best interest. Being true to myself involves acting in accordance with my values. Imust conduct myself like a gentleman and use proper etiquette for te given situation.

Initially, the alcoholic may demonstrate a high tolerance to alcohol, consuming more and showing fewer adverse effects than others. Subsequently, however, the person begins to drink against his or her own best interests, as alcohol comes to assume more importance than personal relationships, work, reputation, or even physical health. The person commonly loses control over drinking and is increasingly unable to predict how much alcohol will be consumed on a given occasion or, if the person is currently abstaining, when the drinking will resume again. Physical addiction to the drug may occur, sometimes eventually leading to drinking around the clock to avoid withdrawal symptoms.
You think to yourself, ‘Hmmm… In what incident does alcohol NOT make one look like an idiot?”
Some alcoholics believe that in order to have a good time doing something they have to be under the influence of alcohol. Therefor if they do not have alcohol then they think life sucks and is no fun. This can also limit what a person can do because you may not be able to do some things under the influence of alcohol with out getting a punishment. For instance if you wanted to go somewhere in a car and you're an alcoholic then you will be breaking the law if you are drunk driving. Some people do not know why they have to drink in order to have fun. Maybe its because their friends drink and they do not have friends who do not drink. You can ask people, why do you drink. Many answers can come from this question. Because I like to drink, because it makes me feel good and sometimes it's, I do not know.
As stated in the textbook, familism, as a definition, is when someone feels pride or closeness to one’s family (Schaefer, 2014, p. 188-189). As a result of familism, an individual will put the needs of his or her family over his or her own personal needs (Schaefer, 2014, p. 188-189). That being said, there are many advantages and disadvantages to familism. For starters, according to the textbook, there are numerous advantages to familism, especially for Latino families. For example, if a member of the family is going through a great crisis, then the family will come together as a whole to help resolve the issue at hand.
Alcohol has been in the world for many centuries and has become a pain but also somewhat of a solution to society. It can be viewed as something to be a social gathering that brings friends together or it can be taking as destruction to someone. Over the years alcohol has played many roles in the world but it plays an even bigger role in substance abuse. Doctors have made several points that it is okay to have a drink every now and again but people need to realize when one drink has become too many. The ideal of having a drink with friends or going out and having an occasional drink is acceptable; However, is it still acceptable when a person find their selves having a drink first thing in the morning or runs to a drink to solve their people.
Alcoholism is a disease that affects many people in the United States today. It not only affects the alcoholic, but also their family, friends, co-workers, and eventually total strangers. The symptoms are many, as are the causes and the effects.
...heavier friends. Also, since it takes my body about an hour to digest a drink, I should start to pace myself in order to assure that I do not drink deadly amounts. I have also had time to look within myself and truly reflect on my reasons for drinking. My self-evaluations led to the following conclusion: maybe I shouldn’t use alcohol as an escape from stress or depression because it doesn’t help, but rather it intensifies the feelings I am already experiencing. Alcohol is a drug and it’s surprising that it took an incident like this one for me to truly grasp the significance of making sure my drinking habits are at a level that is safe for my individualized body. Although this experience led to intervention with the ORL staff, in my case it was positive because I have gained the knowledge and self-realization that I needed to make healthier decisions in the future.
We all, probably, have a story involving a drunk family member at a party or family reunion. Let’s just say my family has plenty. My uncle on my dad’s side of the family loves his tequila and brings his own bottle(s) to any family gathering. The particular family gathering you are about to hear about happened when I was about five years old. I can remember bits and pieces of the event in question but, the main part of the story happened past my bedtime.
