Human trafficking is a human rights issue that poses a vital threat throughout the world. There has been over 20,000 cases reported in over 100 countries. There are many forms of human trafficking, such as forced labor, sex trafficking, organ harvesting, illegal adoption, and child marriage. The Unites Nations have taken many actions to put an end to human trafficking, but there are a few conflicting issues that prevent further advancement on the topic. There are many issues effecting the effort to end trafficking. The biggest being that not all counties can agree on what is or is not human trafficking. Many countries believe that certain forms of trafficking are not trafficking. These countries use indentured servitude and child marriage, and consider them to not to be a form of trafficking. The first action was creating the organization Global Programme Against Trafficking in Human Beings (GPAT) in 1999. GPAT focused on the cooperation of member states and developing the legal and operational resources for prosecuting trafficking offenders. In 2006, they created another organization called Inter-Agency Coordination Group Against Trafficking in Persons (ICAT). ICAT focused on a holistic method that worked on increasing legislative action and services for victims. The organization, also, put a focus on rising awareness, which had been scarce in previous approaches. Public awareness helps victims to speak up and give information on how citizens can help. The United Nations most recent effort was a four-year cooperative initiative called Global Action to Prevent and Address Trafficking in Persons and the Smuggling of Migrants (GloACT). This initiative has put more focus and stress on public awareness and many actions aimed at better coordination of international efforts. The most significant action being World Day Against
