A continuous community service project involves many pieces that have to fit together perfectly in order to complete the puzzle. The first step is to determine your idea for your project. Then you have to find a way to sponsor your funds. Next is the step where you pinpoint which organization your community service project is going to benefit and all the event details. Finally, it is time to put your community service project into drive. Your community service should be one to benefit the people of a community.
To start off, you need to come up with an idea for your community service project. Try looking in books for ideas or search your community for answers. Ask yourself, "What could my community benefit from?" Is there something your past family could have benefited from if someone has implement a community service project for them? If you are a club president wanting to start a community service project, ask your fellow members what ideas they have. Another source is elder care home and non profitable organizations. You could also ask those places if they need any help or if there is any community service project ideas they want someone to perform for them. Is there a certain concern you have for your community and would like to help out? You can always do something someone has don before and continue their project. These are all things to help you think of an idea. There are so many places you can look in order to find an idea. The ideas are innumerable and there is always someplace and someone who needs help.
Some examples may help you understand the ideas of what to do for your project. Once example is starting a bingo night at an elder care or children's home. It is an easy task that many people do and that all people love. If someone in your family was in a orphanage, you could as a local orphanage how you could help. Tragedies are always occurring, and you could help raise money for a relief organization. If you are starting a community service project for a club at school, you could always do an activity within the school like monthly teacher appreciation or a weekly tutoring session. There are so many paths you can take when building a trail of community service projects.
I am a 17 year old senior in high school and was asked to participate in creating and executing a community service project. My first reaction is to talk to my mother, she is very involved in the community and would have some good ideas. The one that stood out to me was doing a coat drive! Last year we did a small one that ended up providing mostly adult women’s coats. This year an organization that I’ve been a part of for four years, HOSA, is doing a coat drive and I’ve asked if I could piggy back on their project. The person in charge of the coat drive is Bailey Clark, she is the current president of HOSA. HOSA is a great organization that prepares high school students for working in the medical community after graduating.
Community service means helping people who are in need and not excepting anything in return. It is very important because it teaches you how to work with different people and it helps you and the person you are helping. There are always places in the community that are in need of volunteers. The organization I chose to volunteer at was BAPS, also known as Bochasan Vasi Akshar Purushottam Sanstha.
I have done a lot of community service at Moundville Nursing Home from 2007-2014. I answered the phone and I sat with the sick patients. I helped in the kitchen and I would bring their supper to their rooms. I helped fed some of the patients because they couldn’t feed themselves. My favorite was when I volunteered for their Halloween festival. I also helped the nursing home with their trunk-a-treat on Halloween. I would go downtown with them and I would pass out candy to the sweet little kids. The whole Moundville community would come and enjoy themselves. I helped the nursing home with their Christmas parade. I helped decorate and pass out the Christmas gift. I did a great amount of community service at Jefferson Chapel CME Church. I would
Mahatma Gandhi once recited that, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others”. Service projects help in projecting the giving that people do for the community.
Over the years I have been very involved in my community and school. Being a part of something helps to define who you are as a person and the principles and values you hold as important. A personal experience that helps to show my talents and skills can be illustrated by my trip to Italy last April with the MHS Language Department.
I really think that having the service learning-project in the Unity and Diversity class is great. In class we have talked about minorites and disadvantaged groups, and volunteering in the minority places has everything to do with our class. The suggestions I have for revising the requirements of the service-learning component in a future class would be to require more theories and concepts into our papers. I think you should require more terms in our papers, so that we look more into our books and notes. Other than adding more concepts into the paper I don’t think anything else should be changed.
Growing up, my parents and other influential figures around me modelled the importance of community service through their continual volunteer work and dedication to improving the world around them. Whether it be participation in a well-attended project or persistent contribution to a helpful organization, those aforementioned individuals were formative in guiding me towards a path filled with opportunities for having an impact on my community.
Finally I feel like I show service, which is the act of assistance, through my community service. I helped the school with the school play my freshman and sophomore years, working concession stands whenever I am able to, and helping the technology department at the school over the summer. I also help in other places in the community. For example every year I try to help put on a thanksgiving dinner for those in need with my church. This skill will help me throughout my life because it shows how important it is to help others.
Community service means to me “service before self”. This phrase has been engraved in my heart since I was a young girl. Since I was born, both of my parents have worked in the same nursing home. I was always in and out whether it was because we didn't have a babysitter that day or I just wanted to play with the facility cat. As I began growing older the in’s and out’s became hours of sitting in my mom’s office helping her file papers or with my dad running around the facility delivering toothbrushes and lotions to rooms. Summers became volunteering in the Activities Department, interacting with the elderly through crafts, painting nails, board games or just chatting away. I realized that these simplest of acts brought happiness to them, it was incredible. I realized what a difference I could make, even if it was small. These moments so early in my life are why I believe I'm so devoted and truly passionate about community service. Since, then I have done everything to immerse myself in my community and school. From volunteering at my local hospital, food bank and soup kitchen, to fundraising for polio, or traveling to Baja California with my club to start recycling and water filter programs. I have found my purpose in
People’s lives are changed every day by their actions and experiences. This past summer, I participated in a community service project, an experience that opened my eyes in many ways. I was a volunteer at the County Memorial Hospital. In my time as a volunteer at the hospital, I was able to meet patients and staff members from all over the world and learn about their life experiences. Listening to all of their stories has made me truly appreciate everything which I have.
As a native of Lancaster, I feel an obligation to act and do something that will benefit my community. I am well aware of the many perils that youth face, and these obstacles can be extremely difficult to overcome without positive figures to aid and provide guidance. There is a great need for an intensive mentoring program within the community to positively influence the lives of youth. For The Land of Dreams, I have proposed to host a community basketball tournament to raise funds to implement a mentoring program to assist in the personal growth and career development of youth in Lancaster County and surrounding areas. The program will form partnerships with local school districts and the juvenile court system. This event will aid Lancaster County by providing additional discretionary resources that will be used to fund such activities as tutoring programs, leadership courses, and college tours.
“Voluntary work intended to help people in a particular area.” That was the textbook definition of “community service.” But notice how it says “voluntary?”, that means doing something on your own free will if I remember correctly. Across America, it’s been a mandatory requirement of young high school and college students to perform a certain amount of community service hours to graduate for quite some time. Some even believe all 18-year olds should perform a whole entire year of community service before they can even go to work to make a living or enter college/university. But this idea is not only a flawed one but a detrimental one as well.
Raising community awareness to students will teach them the importance of being involved in the community. Students being able to give back to the community will prepare them for their journey to being a positive role model or servant leader.
Though, the concept of community service is not very new, its importance has developed in the past few years. There are thousands of organizations all over the world that engage and support millions of young people all over the world. People of all age groups, with a maximum number of youth involved in the process of community service. Community-based organizations include social service organizations, non-profit providers and associations that engage both young people as well as adults as volunteers. The process is beneficial both for the individuals as well as the society.
Community service has now grown to be a way of bringing a community together. There is something important about doing good for others. Every community wants the people within it to be disciplined and work for change. Community service becomes easily assessable for it is the one of the best ways to teach a sense concern and sympathy to other individuals. Participating in community service, allows children and adolescents to become aware of good values and morals. Implemented values such as humility, gratitude, trustworthiness, genuineness and respect are some of the most vital virtues that one can obtain from helping the community. The importance of community service ultimately relies on how the provider distinguishes it. The more time individuals give doing community labor, the more
