I have done a lot of community service at Moundville Nursing Home from 2007-2014. I answered the phone and I sat with the sick patients. I helped in the kitchen and I would bring their supper to their rooms. I helped fed some of the patients because they couldn’t feed themselves. My favorite was when I volunteered for their Halloween festival. I also helped the nursing home with their trunk-a-treat on Halloween. I would go downtown with them and I would pass out candy to the sweet little kids. The whole Moundville community would come and enjoy themselves. I helped the nursing home with their Christmas parade. I helped decorate and pass out the Christmas gift. I did a great amount of community service at Jefferson Chapel CME Church. I would
What are continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs), and how do they differ from a traditional freestanding SNF or ALF? What are some of the financial challenges faced by developers of CCRC communities (describe at least two items). How popular do you think the CCRC model would be in an area like Westchester or Rockland county (choose only one county for your analysis).
Of nursing home staff interviewed in 2004, nearly 40% admitted to committing at least one psychologically abusive act toward a resident and 10% admitted to physically abusing a resident in the preceding year.[1] Not only are nursing home residents at risk of being abused by their caretakers but they are also at risk of being restrained, which may lead to a form of abuse. With five percent of the elderly population, or one to two million instances of elder abuse occurring yearly there is no doubt that elder abuse deserves serious consideration.[2]
My senior year of high school alone, I completed over 160 hours of community service. Being a full-time student and a part-time worker, unfortunately does not allow for much spare time, but whenever I do have a chance, I always volunteer through my youth group in church. One of my biggest goals in life is being able to give back to the community on a much bigger scale. Ultimately, I hope to even go full circle and give scholarships to Hispanic student like me.
The two Nursing Homes that I will be comparing are: Studio City Rehabilitation Center and Valley Palms Care Center within the San Fernando Valley. The Studio City Rehabilitation Center is rated as a low functioning site at 2 out of 5 stars, while the Valley Palms Care Center is rated as a high functioning site at 4 out of 5 stars. Both sites have differences and similarities regarding their overall environment, staff members, quality of measuring/ensuring care, and overall rating on the Nursing Home Compare Medicare website. These varying factors have resulted in the quality of health care for both sites to be different from one another, as evidenced by their rating differences and my observations.
Nursing Home Abuse With over 1.5 million elderly and dependent adults now living in nursing homes throughout the country, abuse and neglect has become a widespread problem. Even though some nursing homes provide good care, many are subjecting helpless residents to needless suffering and death. Most residents in nursing homes are dependent on the staff for most or all their needs such as food, water, medicine, toileting, grooming- almost all their daily care. Unfortunately, many residents in nursing homes today are starved, dehydrated, over-medicated, and suffer painful pressure sores. They are often isolated, ignored, and deprived of social contact and stimulation.
With the aging population growing faster every year many families must make a difficult decision whether their loved ones should live in assisted living or nursing home facilities. I can relate because I made the decision to care for my mother at my home. Some people do not have the money or resources to care for their parent so they must live in a facility for health and safety reasons.
For my twelve hours of community service I went to the Boys & Girls club in Erie, Pennsylvania. While at the Boys and Girls club I had noticed a variety of different things in regards to the population
Another service that I have done has been to volunteer at the West Campus Hospital gift shop. It was a great experience for me; if I had the time I would make the effort to volunteer again. For people that is good at socializing with others and love organizing I would recommend volunteering at the gift shop.
I performed my community service at a local elementary school. I chose this place because of its relative ease, and it was also an area I could easily get to and from. I started my first day very confused and out of character. The school was very bland, and it brought back memories of the time that I had attended elementary school.
Last year I took part in an active community outreach at a shelter for five hours in Skid Row slum in Los Angeles. This helped me to connect with the people in the area and learn their way of living, understand their immediate needs and the problems that they face in their living environment.
I decided to take action and volunteered at GLIDE Memorial Church. At GLIDE, I volunteered during lunch shifts. My duties included ensuring that each bagged meal consisted of the correct items, handing out silverware and condiments, cleaning dishes and the floor, and bagging meals for the homeless. I worked with people of all different ethnicities and ages, and we all cooperated with one another in order to make things run smoothly and
Christopher Fisher, a Licensed Administrator of Nursing Home with a degree of MS and NHA and currently working as an Administrator Fox Subacute at Mechanicsburg was the guest speaker of the class. His presentation was very engaging and highlighted the differences of the Nursing Home Operations and its regulatory process and business hierarchy. First, he talked about his background relevant to his job status. In addition, he stated that he started working as Licensed Administrator since May 2008, but prior to that, he started in skilled nursing as admissions/social services on May 2005. In his presentation, he also highlighted his achievements and conversion of long-term care to interim rehabilitation. Sequentially, I found his presentation
I have taken as many opportunities as I can to volunteer my time to the community. I personally have a great passion for helping others. The services I have done so far include: Fright Night at Sacred Hearts Academy (4 hours), Citizen Patrol of Honolulu (86 hours), student ambassador at Sacred Hearts Academy (25 hours), Sacred Hearts Spring Show Case (4 hours), FAST for A Better Tomorrow (5 hours), Rotary Club of Hawaii Kai (30 hours), Sacred Hearts Science Symposium (5 hours), Sacred Hearts Auditorium cleaner (6 hours), Sacred Hearts Academy Office (36 hours), and services for the Soroptimist Club (32 hours). I have a total of 233 hours as of February
I also had the privilege of helping with the Meals on Wheels non profit organization. My grandfather used to be a Meals on Wheels recipient and he would share with me how he enjoyed looking forward to their company and a hot meal daily. I volunteered because I wanted to give back and help someone else’s loved one in the same way. It was very rewarding delivering hot meals to people who didn’t have the means of getting one as well as being there for them to talk to. Overall, it was a very humbling experience, it made me realize just how blessed I am and how much I take for granted daily.
I volunteered at East Parkside Nursing Home through my church 's mentoring program. At first, I was somewhat uncomfortable volunteering at a nursing home because my great-grandfather, among many others, was mistreated in a nursing home. But, as the day went on and we engaged in activities with the residents, I eventually calmed down and got into the smooth of things. We had one-on-one contact with the seniors, and we learned about their lives and families. One of the seniors was a veteran who fought in the Vietnam War and he told all of the volunteers a few short war stories. For several residents, their families rarely visited them, so they genuinely appreciated the volunteers spending time with them. Later, we made holiday cards and sang Christmas carols for the senior citizens. They seemed so elated and pleased, which made me feel so fulfilled that I could make someone 's day by doing something so
