Quilting is a hobby of mine that has been around since the ancient Egyptians. Quilting is the process of stitching three pieces of fabric together, usually two pieces of fabric sand witching some sort of padding. I have been sewing since I was about seven years old and got my first sewing machine when I was about ten. My grandma taught me how to sew first by hand and then I got to move up to her machine until I got my own. The first step you need to establish is who the quilt is for. The quilt that I am making is for my grandma. The next thing you need to establish is how big you want to make your quilt. I was thinking about making my quilt a bedspread, but I do not have the time to make a quilt that big. I am looking for a lap size quilt. This is the perfect size quilt because she will get a lot of use out of it when she sits in her chair. The size that I decided on was a six-foot by eight-foot rectangle. The final step you need to think about before you start making it is, what do you want your quilt to look like. When I was trying to figure out what kind of quilt that I wanted to make I used the flow chart that we used from the Runco book. The problem was I needed to make a quilt by May 17th. The Encoding part that I am making it for my grandma. The search part I just as what designs could I use for my quilt. I thought of something with dogs, dog print, horses, western, Native American, and birds. To eliminate a few categories I took out dogs, dog print, and birds. The best fits I thought would be horses, western, and Native American. I thought these were the best fit because they could be easily combined. The evaluation part, I decided would be combining the different designs in order to make something that looked good. T... ... middle of paper ... ...twelve-inch tan rectangles to finish the square. Then you need to multiple those numbers by how many squares there are to complete the boarder that which is 14. Once I started sewing the squares together, I acquired a new problem. I had gaps in between the middle section and the outer boarders. I thought that I would just use more tan fabric, but I did not have enough. Instead I came up with a pattern of aligning the strips of colored fabric in the same order as the second boarder. Then when I placed the last boarder, I had gaps on the ends and on the sides. Because those squares are mainly maroon, and I had enough fabric I just used that. When I cut the fabric for sides of the boarder I unfortunately cut them too short. Instead of pitching them I used them for the top and bottom of the boarder, where it was too short. Then for the sides I just got bigger pieces.
