Injury prevention is very important and needs to be taken seriously in sports and everyday life. In some cases the use of a helmet or seatbelt can save your life. Some injury prevention items are pads, helmets, gloves, shin guards and many more. Almost every sport require injury protection equipment that will keep you safe when you get hit, kicked and punched. According to Stanford’s Children health, almost 215,000 children ages 5 to 14 were treated in hospital emergency rooms for football related injuries. This isn’t even including the NFL or people over 14 years old. Football is a dangerous sport and the most common injury/most fatal in some cases are concussions. In football, there is an estimated 64-70 percent of concussions. The main equipment you need for football in order not to get injured are; a helmet, mouth guard, shoulder pads, thigh pads, knee pads, butt pad, cleats with ankle support, chin strap, and possibly gloves. The most common injuries in basketball would consist of; ankle sprains, jammed fingers, knee injuries, deep thigh bruises, facial cuts, and foot fractures. Basketball is a very fast paced sport. These injuries however, can be reduced or even prevented if the correct precautions are taken. Although there is little to no safety equipment used, if the the rules of the game are followed and players are careful, there is little to worry about.
