Daring to lead is one of the hardest things to do. All eyes are following your every move. All the responsibility lands on your shoulders. You welcome stress and in doing so, you also mentally and physically prepare to work hard. However, daring to lead empowers, uplifts and impacts the lives of people who comprises the minority community. And even though it’s not a walk in the park, it is the one most vital act minorities need to execute. Within the accounting profession, daring to lead serves an essential purpose. Reason being is that when minorities dare to lead, they are not only leading for themselves, but for other minorities. When students like myself bear witness to a person of color as a senior manager in a Fortune 500 company, this enables other people of color to realize that they can become a senior manager too. Moreover, they can be a …show more content…
It allows minorities to truly believe that there is hope -- hope in being exceptional beyond any barrier that attempts to limit personal and professional growth and greatness. Leading empowers many. When minorities take the dare to lead they exude strength and perseverance. This display gives rise to other minorities who influence others to dare themselves to be great too. Essentially, the effect of daring to lead goes way beyond the one brave leader. NABA has empowered me to dare to be a leader. In my Introduction to Business class, there was a group project. The aim of the project was to research and analyze a company’s financial situation and compile the information into a single document for a potential investor. This task was very overwhelming for my peers and me. None of us knew how to go about finding the information we needed nor how to analyze any information that we found. Everyone began doing their work and we kept coming into conflicts with each other. Our analysis on whether the potential investor should investor was very unclear. Half of our group stated that the company
Discrimination is still a chronic global issue, and drastic inequalities still exist at the present time. Thus, the Affirmative Action Law is an important tool to many minorities most especially to women, and people of color, for the reason that this program provides an equality on educational, and professional opportunities for every qualified individual living in the United States. Without this program, a higher education would have been impossible for a “minority students” to attain. Additionally, without the Affirmative Action, a fair opportunity to have a higher-level career...
Leadership describes a characteristic that often helps others that need guidance. A true leader exemplifies strong initiative and notably different from others. A leader starts something new for people to try out instead of old traditions. Being a good leader helps prevent bad things from happening. If a person conducts themselves as a follower that person places themselves at risk of participating in the wrong thing. Followers cause harm to many people in Shirley Jackson’s “Lottery”, the villagers follow their leaders by practicing the same old traditions that cause harm or even death. People need leaders instead of followers. Followers potentially get hurt by following the wrong leadership.
Leadership can be defined as the ability of a superior to influence the behavior of a minor or group and persuade them to follow a particular course of action. A leader sets a course of action and ensures that everyone follows the action. Leading can apply to leading oneself, other individuals, groups, organizations and societies. The nature of how leading is done depends on the framework of the situation, one's point of view, and on the nature and needs of those involved. While leadership is learned, the skills and knowledge processed by the leader are influenced by their traits, such as beliefs, values, ethics, and most importantly character. Knowledge and skills directly relate to the process of leadership, while the other qualities give the leader certain characteristics that make them unique. Leaders can come from anyone in society today. They can merely come from a neighborhood kid picking up trash around the neighborhood to the hardship of being a cop on a high-speed chase. Most importantly leaders can either be well-known or barely known. They all exemplify the same characteristics. The role of leadership is greatly portrayed in all three stories of Beowulf, Oedipus the King, and Antigone.

Some feel that affirmative action in universities is the answer to the end of racism and inequality. If more black students get into and graduate from good colleges, more of them will go on to even out the lopsided numbers in the work force. Prejudice secretly slips through everyone¹s thoughts. Or so Barbara Ehrenreich believes when she writes of a quiet, subliminal prejudice that is caused by statistics that prove the fewer numbers of blacks in high profile jobs. When we see ninety percent of leadership roles in the corporate world held by white men, we begin to doubt other¹s competence in that field. With so many minorities in menial roles, people begin to believe the white man is best for ...
Affirmative action is still needed, but its efforts must be redirected. The truth is that minorities poised to break through the glass ceiling will do so, based upon sheer ability, but minorities on the bottom rungs of society need help to break through the cellar ceiling. These are the individuals for whom affirmative action can do the most good, consequently, these are the people upon whom our efforts should be focused.
Leadership is not just a word rather leadership is a process of social influence of one person on others to aid and to support their role in order to achieve the combined purpose. Leadership is thus not a role or a position, but an act of achieving the tasks assigned. So being a leader is an adventure because the whole situation of success and failure surrounds the leader’s role. It is rightly said that if you are the driving force or the source of inspiration for others, if you are the ladder to the top destination then you are the leader. If you are the source for others to flourish, you are an inspiring leader. To command the great things is not at all an easy task. Leadership is an art to mold others according to your own plans and way

In order for a leader to be a leader he/she must begin with the assumption that you are the one who matters most. As a leader you have to possess that level of confidence in yourself that you are capable of leading yourself “before you can lead others”. And when you develop this belief then you are better able of affirmative influence “on others”.
This study aims to find the relationship between leadership performance style and project success and to research that whether the project success is influenced by leadership style. According to Belout and Gauvreau (2004), “Nowadays, project management has become a key activity in most modern organizations. Projects usually have a wide variety of objectives, involve numerous internal and external actors, and are conducted in various activity sectors”. Many researchers have agreed that project leadership is one of the most crucial elements of a project’s success. There are many views on leadership and according to Dulewicz and Higgs (2005), leadership has been studied more than any other aspect of human behavior. Higgs (2003) identified six
Leaders is an effective tool for summarizing and inspiring leadership, not in that it teaches tough strategies and manipulations, but that when looking at an overview of its content, Bennis and Nanus are essentially teaching human relations and human decency. All in all, this book highlights strategies for us all to be better in our lives and our everyday interactions.
“Leading: is stimulating people to be high performers. It is directing, motivating, and communicating with employees, individually and in groups. Leading involves close day-to-day contact with people, helping to guide and inspire them toward achieving team and organizational goals” (Bateman & Snell, 2004, p. 17).
Leadership is trait that is extremely important in any society. Leadership is known as the way people attempting to make a difference in a situation. However, I believe that it is better said to be a way of influencing others actions. Leadership is usually connected to a great leader that affected his or her followers in a dynamic way. Throughout the semester for my leadership class, I have expanded the knowledge in numerous ways. I now have fully understanding of the purpose and process of leadership to a society. Being a leader one must maintain an image of being the role model. I believe that this is leader should be who is someone who has the ability to influence, encourage, listen, and nurture. They are able to inspire, stimulate, persuade, shape, and have an effect on others.
Maxwell maintains that the leading leader is born with leadership qualities and has seen leadership modeled throughout life. The leading leader has learned additional leadership skills though training and practices self-discipline. The “learned leader” is described with the same characteristics of the “leading leader” with the exception of “being born” with leadershi...
What is leadership? Leadership is defined as a process by which a individual will influence others to obtain goals. Leaders will guide, direct motivate, or inspire others. Leadership is defined by not only traits but actions as well. Leaders are inspirational, trustworthy and charismatic. Many people may think a manger is leader. Although leadership and management go hand in hand, they are not the same. Everyone has their own beliefs about what characteristics an effective leader should have. To me, communication skills, critical thinking skills, and having a vision are few characteristics of becoming an effective leader. A leader is not only born, but made. Some are born as leaders or some are made to be leaders.
