Picture this: a car pulls up to the curb at the Atlanta International Airport, eight young ladies, glamorously attired in baby blue Pan Am stewardesses uniforms, step out and saunter their way into the airport. All heads turn and marvel at the beautiful, sophisticated women that pass before them, ahhhh the allure of the mysterious stewardess. Where are they going? Where have they been? Everyone wonders. DreamWorks Studios created this sensational image of stewardesses for the movie Catch Me If You Can (2002). It is the true life story of Frank Abagnale Jr. who used stewardesses as a cover to flee from that Atlanta International Airport in 1965. We’ve come a long way since then, but flight attendants (the more politically correct term now) still hold an appeal. It’s a fascinating career few really know about, but many dream of having. Just how does one become an attendant, what is involved? How does one decide where to apply? Are there any specific requirements or qualifications for specific airlines? What are the benefits, career information, lifestyle, and just what exactly is a flight attendants salary? All are pressing questions that can be easily answered. Let us take a journey and learn about this amazingly interesting career field. To begin this journey one needs to know how to become a flight attendant, the specifics on what is involved. Are you ready? Over all, it can be relatively easy to enter the field. Many airlines require applicants to be eighteen years old as a minimum but some major airlines, such as American Airlines, require you to be at least twenty years of age. A college degree in not a requirement for all airlines but highly encouraged, specifically a degree in Customer Service. There is no one particular airline that is better than the rest; it is all dependent on what you want for a career. Keep in mind that seniority plays a huge role in the flight attendant career field and getting your foot into the door with little experience can be extremely difficult. The best move is to start small, work for a regional airline. In a few years, with experience under your belt and some seniority, move onto a larger national airline and gain more experience.
