Thomas Pierce’s “This is an Alert” is a short story depicting a future warfare. However, this short story describes a family and how this war affects their typical day. This story, according to McKee’s terms, has the potential of becoming a film. These terms would include controlling ideas, climax, conscious and unconscious desires. The characters are unique in their own ways due to their personalities and their desires, both unconscious and conscious.
Narrator: This character is not named within the story but the readers know that she is an older woman since she has a child and husband.
• Her conscious desire within this story is hard to find; however, Thomas Pierce seemed to want his narrator to have the typical conscious desire of being

The first turning point would be when Neal decided to completely disregard the alert sign and take off his mask completely and go directly to the pool. From what the narrator states, the war is beginning to completely affect and change the citizens’ lives. Neal feels frustrated and begins to somewhat rebel and goes outside. Everyone follows him out and begin to act like him. The narrator begins to see a new perspective of not letting the fear of death stop you from having fun with your family. The second turning point would be where the climax happens. Everyone is having fun outside then goes inside for some air conditioning until the drone hits the house. After this everyone goes into a state of chaos and lockdown of the home begins. The second turning point almost overrides the first turning point since everyone goes back to being alert about their lives rather than being care …show more content…
The scene of people going down with the alert sign should be part of the beginning too so it can show the audience how the war affected the people of the world. The narrator also should have a name too so the audience can easily empathize with her. It is somewhat difficult for an audience to emphasize with a nameless protagonist. It can be done but it should be avoided. Act I should continue normally as the story goes on and end off where the first turning point is, Neal taking off his mask and clothes and going to the pool.
Act II: This act should have the entire pool scene so it can showcase to the audience of how a family can make people happy. This act should have Cecil shown to be interested to the narrator to give his character some depth to him. This will make him relatable towards the audience. Having scenes where he is looking at her and her catching him will give the depth of character he needs. This act should also continue normally and end off where they hear the drone hit the
The turning point in the story occurs when Jing-mei finally refuses to do what her mother wants and accepts that she will never be a genius. Her "true self finally emerged, and this was what had been inside her all along.."
To describe and illustrate the main character reaches a turning point in their lives where they transition from one mental standpoint to another.
A turning point is a change in a person’s life that can affect their life in a good or bad way, and you have to adapt to it. Just like in the stories “Hatchet” by Gary Paulsen, “Eleven” by Sandra cisneros and “Middle school loneliness”, The characters all faced turning points that they all adapted to.
The turning point in the novel is when Rob realizes he is the true reason his relationships never work since he is always looking for something better, as in another woman while he is in a committed relationship with a woman.
We also get introduced to the first case and see how the main character, Gittes, decides to go about things in order to solve it. Moving on to act 2 we see the major plot point of Act one ending with Gittes discovering the body of Hollis and Act two begins with the ongoing search of what is happening with the water and why Hollis was killed. The major plot point of Act two being where Gittes gets his nose cut for being a bit too good of a detective. Then during Act three we get the revelation that Katherine is both Evelyn’s daughter and sister and the part the Cross played to make that happen. Gittes than masterfully sets up the police, Cross and even uses Curly from the beginning to setup everyone at different locations which results in everyone coming to together in Chinatown which the third main plot point. I thought that was an interesting turn of events and awesome writing on the part of Towne, although in the movie version they changed things somewhat and I didn’t think it worked nearly as
Act 3 Scene 1, as well as Act 2 Scene 3. The reasons why I have chosen
the beginning of all the bad events that occur in the remaining of the novel.
A second turning point takes place during the climax of the story when Charlie realizes that his aunt Helen wasn’t as great of person as he remembered. “ I’m not the way I am because of what I dreamt and remembered about my aunt Helen. That’s what I figured out when things got quiet… Even if we don’t have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there.” The author uses the plot to show Charlie has had this realization, and it allows him to be at peace, and move on from all the horrible things he’s dealt
In the movie, there are three acts that do overlap in ways in which they do not in the play. For example, in the movie, there are early cuts to Cecily at Jack's country house, but in the play, we do not meet her until Act Two. This shows that events from different acts, mostly Acts 1 and 2 are mixed together. The movie does lengthen certain scenes, probably to make the movie a bit longer than it otherwise might have been. For example, in the play, Aunt Augusta simply conducts her interrogation of Jack as a marriage prospect for Gwendolyn at Algernon's house, but in the film, it is turned into a much more formal and frightening affair, but in a comical way. Aunt Augusta asks Jack to come to her home the next day, and when he arrives, he passes
This starts the story, has an action that causes climax, war takes over; however life is still tolerable, then the resolve begins. Yet still, there is more to come. The reader now finds out that everything they thought is now a lie and their hearts are shattered. The Epilogue explains that Briony has dementia and the reader may not be able to trust her story.
Thus, while there’s a lot to like about the storyline, at the same time, there’s room for possible revisions, especially in the first act. The areas to discuss include the structure, the pace, and some story choices, as well as further character development. There’s a well-defined three act structure. The opening, establishes the backstory for the action-hero of
