Have you noticed the way some leaders treat their followers unfairly? Or how some people put up with their leaders biased decisions? If not let me talk to you how some people are being treated by their so called leaders.
In this essay I will be talking about how the different behaviors of a leader and of a follower can both cause a huge downfall in equality. In the book “Animal Farm” by George Orwell, it shows the relationship between an over ruling leader and empty headed followers whose behaviors causes each and every one in the farm to lose their rights.
The first character that I will be discussing is Napoleon, he can be described as a discourteous, egotistical, and an unsuitable leader for his farm community. Napoleon thinks that his resolutions and ideas on how to run the farm is always
Jessie has a lot to say, but won't actually say what she thinks or feels, she is afraid of what might come back to her. I feel that if Jessie were to speak her mind in a cautious and proper way, then she would have Napoleon's ear and would doubtlessly get his awareness. My first example of Jessie's characteristics is when Napoleon took a hold of her puppies, although she knew that it was erroneous of him to proceed with that, and she did not suppress or fight back when she should have. An additional example would be when she distinguished the difference of the amendments, since Napoleon had switched around the words, and she did not say a word about it to Napoleon on how it was fallacious of him to do so. This type of behavior made each and every one of the animals at the farm to lose their freedom because of her staying mute nothing changed toward the farm and it kept the animals from having equality, she never stood up for herself and because of that Napoleon stepped all over her and took advantage of her and all the other
Abraham Lincoln once said, “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.” ("Abraham Lincoln Quote"). Lord Acton also said, “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” (“Lord Acton Quotes”). Both of the quotes show that power is not always a good thing, and can sometimes make good people, do bad things. Animal Farm by George Orwell is a novella about animals rebelling against humans on a farm in England. The novella has been said to be directly related to the Russian Revolution of the early 20th century. Immediately after the animals gained power, the pigs took over as the leaders of the animals. The pigs became corrupt with the power, and may have made conditions worse than they were with humans
Absolute power leads to the corruption of government. In Animal Farm, when a group of mistreated animals rebels against their cruel farm owner, two intelligent pigs on the farm take it upon themselves to lead the animals jointly. However, due to the animals' greedy co-leader Napoleon who dominates that power, the pigs' leadership turns into a corrupt power-hungry government that causes the entire farm system to collapse. In order to secure a life of luxury for Napoleon and his fellow pigs, Napoleon (with Squealer as his spokesman)uses language that intimidates, language that distorts the truth, and language that appeals to the emotions of the animals in order to manipulate gullible animals of Animal Farm.
What do YOU think would be the consequences of always following the rules? In Animal Farm by:George Orwell Boxer always follows the rules and there can good and bad outcomes. For Mollie she can be her true self without being forced to do anything. When it comes to conformity like Boxer you have to always listen and do what you are told by facing the consequences of your actions. But being a nonconformist like Mollie you will never have to face your problems. You can do whatever you want but you are going to get judge by it.
One of the main characters of Animal Farm is the heartless and merciless leader Napoleon. Napoleon is a leader that prefers to have things his way and not cooperate with others, in other words, really obnoxious. For example “He declared himself against the windmill from the start”. One day, however, he arrived unexpectedly to examine the plan. He walked heavily round the sled, looked closely at every detail of the plans and snuffed at them once or twice, then stood for a little while contemplating them out of the corner of his eye; then suddenly lifted his leg, urinated over the plans and walked out without uttering a word.
In the book Napoleon began his leadership role quite well, with his ideas being fair and with a positive meaning. As the story continues he becomes more corrupt, and his ideas turn into a dictatorship. “Napoleon lead the animals back to the store-shed and served out a double portion of corn to everyone, with two biscuits for each dog.” As time went on his true nature, of a power crazy character begins to surface, he becomes more selfish and the principle idea of equality no longer exists. The farm is run on terror, and no animal dare speak out against him, for fear of death. “The news leaked out that every pig was receiving a ration of a pint of bear daily, with half a gallon for Napoleon.”
Orwell's book, "Animal Farm", is full of satire. This satire is Orwell's way of communicating problems and resolutions. The main message in Animal Farm is that power cannot be divided equally. There will never be equality for all. Once power is obtained it is always abused, and power causes all to think as the leader does. Equality does not exist, for it is impossible for everyone to be equal.
“Beasts of England, Beast Ireland, Beast of every land and clime, Hearken to my joyful tidings of the Golden future time.” George Orwell’s novel Animal Farm, Orwell depicts the corruption exhibited by the communist of Russia when leaders gain more power. Socialism, Communism, and Capitalism are very different but have one thing in common and that is their histories corrupt and greedy leaders. While this novel portrays corruption in leadership it was often dismissed as ridicule toward Communist because of Orwell’s stance as a Socialist. Publishers where afraid to publish Animal Farm at first because of the anti-Soviet content, although today it is viewed as one of the hundred best English novels. The short sightedness of leaders have reigned for centuries while people maintain the “this way is better” concept it is all inevitably destroyed by ignorance, greed, and wickedness. George Orwell has evoked several renditions of his classic Animal Farm, but we do not prevail under any of the ideals because of corrupt leaders.
It is in the psychology of humankind that people need to have a figure of leadership to be safe. What is more, the majorities of these figures never actually satisfy the needs of their people, but rather, exploit their own men for their personal gain. Despite the fact that Orwell wrote Animal Farm as a satirical response to Russian regime, the aim of this paper is to show that social order that is shown in his work is found throughout the history, as well as in the present moment. Such type of leadership does not only appear in communism, but it also appears in democratic societies.
George Orwell’s Animal Farm is a political satire of a totalitarian society ruled by a mighty dictatorship, in all probability a fable for the events surrounding the Russian Revolution of 1917. The animals of “Manor Farm” overthrow their human master after a long history of mistreatment. Led by the pigs, the farm animals continue to do their work, only with more pride, knowing that they are working for themselves, as opposed to working for humans. Little by little, the pigs become dominant, gaining more power and advantage over the other animals, so much so that they become as corrupt and power-hungry as their predecessors, the humans.
... In the end, George Orwell’s dark brooding fairy tale Animal Farm proves to be a symbolic and understanding book. In its pages we can see the contrast between a supposedly communistic state where everyone is equal and the same, and how in the end it only leads to a total dictatorial establishment of totalitarianism, where everything is controlled by an elite group. Though Animal Farm was established with the idea of every animal being equal, in the end, the voice of the scheming pigs was the only one heard. Secondly, the book powerfully symbolizes key figures that have appeared in history.
Can you imagine what life would be like living under the rule of a dictator pig? The animals in Animal Farm by George Orwell unfortunately experience this first hand. In the novel, the farm animals rebel against their owner and drive him out, and thus Manor Farm is renamed Animal Farm and the animals begin to govern themselves. They all agree that the smartest animal should be considered the leader, therefore Snowball and Napoleon, both pigs, are put in charge. However, as the story goes along, Napoleon exiles Snowball and becomes corrupted with power, and despite claiming that everyone is equal, Napoleon lives in luxury while the rest suffer under his rule. In reality, the animals should be the ones blamed for allowing Napoleon to rule over them.
Lord Acton – a British Historian from the 19th Century once said, “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely”. His maxim is seen in many cases and is also shown in Orwell’s Animal Farm as power is strength and authority, which is any form of influence, the ability to sway, and control. When an individual is given too much power, a dictatorship is formed – where all decisions are made by one authority. Thus, it is to say that power always causes corruption.
When a leader uses its power to affect the wellbeing of their community things can go wrong. In Animal Farm, there are leaders who take advantage of there power and use it for their well being but not the community's well being. In the novel, Animal Farm, by George Orwell, all the leaders that they've ever had have used, lied, and have taken advantage of the situation that there in.
Before anything else, can some of you describe how it feels to have authority over small groups of people like in meetings, group projects or book clubs? We all know that it is unsatisfying to have authorization over everything in the world because life will not be as exciting as it is supposed to be.
The first character I chose was Mr. Jones. I chose him as my first character, because he was the first leader on the animal farm. Mr. Jones became the first leader, because he was the owner of the farm and the animals. He was a very rude man, he would get drunk and end up never even feeding the animals. He made the animals work to hard and only gave them enough food so that they could survive and do his work for him. Did I mention that Mr. Jones was a human? But he wasn’t the worst leader of the animals on animal farm.
