Skiing has been a significant part of my life since I was three. The slopes fill me? with more joy than anywhere else. Throughout my years skiing, my Dad and my older brother Trevor have helped me. Following in their footsteps, I have progressed in both the way I ski and the difficulty of slopes I attempt. When I began skiing, I was scared and needed lessons. I could not complete any slopes except bunnies and greens (the easiest slopes). Through many days spent on the slopes challenging myself, my skill improved. I wanted to ski with my dad and brother, and knew I had to practice in order to even try keeping up with them. Determination to join them and be together skiing made me work harder than I have worked before to improve a skill. As I got to the end of the bowl, I saw a terrain park. My older brother Trevor pushed me to try the massive jump.
“Come on, Carter, you have to try the jump, we don’t have anything like this at home!” he told me trying to persuade me to try the jump. “I will even go first, so you can see.”
“Fine, Trevor, I will try it after you,” I told him, my voice trembling with fear.
“Make sure to hit the jump fast and bend your knees on the landing,” he had said before he took flight.
“Here goes nothing,” I thought to myself before I skied toward the jump. I sped toward the jump remembering what Trevor had told me. I soared through the air with my neon green pants flapping in the air. As my skis touched down, I bent my knees and realized I had landed the jump. My Dad skied to Trevor and I, and I found out that my dad had recorded it so I could re-live the moment. I was super excited they had caught my success on tape! Soon after I landed the jump, it was time to leave
