Learning about others background helps us better understand each other. My father is from the city of Oaxaca de Juarez. Oaxaca is one of the 31 states in Mexico. It is located in Southwestern Mexico. When hearing what my father had to go through at my age, it change me. It changed my perspective. At my age, people stress over deciding which restaurant to go eat at, what assignment they didn’t do, but my father had to think about things such as how is he going to feed his family and whether there was going to be enough for them. It helped me find my passion which is basketball because it helps me escape and opens up many doors. We should study World Literature because it helps us all connect and understand each other. My family isn’t as great as I thought it was. My father’s side of the family has some weird past. My future has changed because none of my older relatives got far in education. My brother was the first family member to go to college. It really opened my eyes and made me realize who I am. Explanation- This article gives examples of how indigenous people used to live before the colonization of Christopher Columbus. After the appearance of Christopher Columbus in Mexico different ethnic groups were distributed amongst different states along with their different languages. In the state of Oaxaca there around sixteen different ethnic groups which the Mixtecs and the Zapotecs are the two main ethnos who have continued to expand amongst the territory. During the Spanish conquest the Mixtec and the Zapotecs’ religion was mostly based on belief in the vital force that animated all living things, meaning that they worshiped the land and the creator. Throughout this day there are still indigenous people who believe and practice their ideology, and the “modernized” are set to practice Catholicism.
If I am not open to their perspective, then I will not be able to help them move past whatever their situation may be. By recognizing that everyone has a different worldview, it will allow me to be more open and understanding towards them.

In conclusion, for many, Mexico is simply a country on a map. Even becoming a place that they wish to keep from and forget. Feeling responsible for situations out of my control was difficult. My grades were awful, it was impossible to focus on anything. I could hardly sleep at night with the amounts of stress I was under. Knowing that my father was an alcoholic with bi-polar disorder opened me up to a new world.
