For this assignment my topic will be on how my family, my personality and my experiences have shaped me into who I am today. I will be talking about when I first arrived to the United States from the Dominican Republic; on the things I became interested on; on the programs I’ve been on and the people I met there and on how they influenced me to attend college and pursue an Computer Engineering major. I will write on how I was introduced to rock/pop-rock music by my friend back in the Bronx and on how I was introduced to online gaming by my cousins. I can give of my essay four different paragraphs on the three things that made influenced me. One could be about how my family encouraged me to go to college. Another could be on how I became obsessed
with rock/dubstep music and on gaming. The other one could be on the Upward Bound program that helped me be prepared for High School and college. The last one could be on how I decided to pursue an engineering major. As a addition I could add the sound that helps me concentrate on anything that requires critical thinking and helps me clear my mind from all sorts of stressing actions such as studying for a test. The sound of the rain. As a conclusion I will make a brief summary on the entire essay on how each one of the topics helped shape the person I am now.
Sometimes my professors asked me to write this type of essays. However, I do not think that I wrote them correctly. Because I did not know the structure of this essay. Also, I did not know how to discuss
The third essay I wrote was a profile essay. The profile essay I wrote was about a particular relationship that was important to me and how this person had an aspect on my life. The person I wrote about was my mother Marie Dean. In the essay I talked about how she has shown me and my brother that with determination and perseverance, we can accomplish anything we put our minds to. Another thing I talked about was how hard-working, strong and intelligent Marie Dean is.
God, I hate narrative essays. You have to write about your own personal experiences and expect to get a three-page paper out of it. I have no events in my life that would fit a three-page paper. The events in my life are either to foggy in my mind, are too insignificant in my mind to fit a three-page paper, or are too big and broad to be able to fit in an essay and would need a 500-page book to explain. I do far better at other kinds of essays than narratives, such as the persuasive paper. I look forward to those kinds of essays more than I look forward at all to doing any more narrative essays. In, the mean time, however, I am going to try to get James to get off the Internet. Maybe then I may have a better narrative topic. I hate narrative essays anyway.
Section 1: What is your topic, and why is it important to study this topic?
It seemed like a normal day when I entered Mrs. A’s AP Language and Composition class, but little did I know that she was going to assign a very important project that was going to take forever. I took my seat and wrote down what was on the board. Then I sat patiently and waited for Mrs. A to come explain what we were doing today. When the tardy bell rang, Mrs. A glided into the room and gave us all a stack of papers. She then proceeded to discuss our upcoming assignment, a memoir. As she explained the very important assignment, I wondered whom I would write about. No one really came to mind to write about and I thought for sure I would never be able to get this thing done on time. I finally decided that I would write in on my mother, Kari Jenson. I knew I would probably put the project off until the very end and do it the weekend before even though it would get on my mom’s nerves. Putting work off was just how I did everything, it worked for me. When I arrived home from school that day, I told mom about the project. I told her I would most likely write it about her and she was overjoyed.
Family can be a many of things in your life. They can be the family you were born into. They could be some of your closest friends that you know consider your family. So they don’t have to be your blood or kin. They can be your friends as well. But if you have one or the other or are lucky and have both. They can be a major factor or influence on your life. From the person you marry to the job you take. From the places you go and see and to the people you meet in between. The people you consider family will always be there and influence those factors and many more. As much as you portray yourself as independent they will always act as a life line on your life. So family can help you in your personal life, teach you things as a person, be with
As I was wondering about what to write about, I realized that the debilitation of the family unit is what causes so many of the problems today. Drugs, sex, and violence are all prompted by a lack of respect for bodies and other people. Children need to be loved, encouraged, and taught. Without proper guidance a child will not have the confidence or knowledge to make good, morally sound decisions.
“We could live like this forever.” (Walls, 2005, p 18) The Walls family’s life is very interesting and quite similar to my early life. Although my life is similar to theirs it is also very different. Our lives are similar because I also moved around a lot as a child, I had an alcoholic father, and my mother wasn’t the best. They 're different because my family stayed in places longer, we children never had to sleep in boxes or cars, and we weren 't too prideful to sign up on welfare.
Have you ever been influenced by some important person that helped you be the person that you are today? I have been. The people that have had influence on me are the most important humans beings, my family. But before I begin talking about my family, I want to describe to you the place that we spend most of the time together which also means something important to me and my family. This place is called the family room. This room is small but cozy. It is painted in white and has three windows decorated with beautiful curtains. By the windows you can appreciate a nice view of some beautiful trees and a nice pool. On the walls there are some family photos like the ones that show where my brothers and I were born, my graduation photo, some family members photos like my grandparents, and some paintings made by one of my brothers. Also inside this room there is a nice home theater that includes a nice stereo and TV, and a new compact computer. But this is not all, this room has some very comfortable furniture and I can say that they are comfortable because I use them to watch TV, a movie, or just sit and rest. Also the furniture is used by my brothers to sit and play nitendo, to study, or play with the computer. But from all this furniture there is one chair that is the most cozy chair that I have ever sat upon and that is my father's chair. So this is our room, which is very important to us and has a lot of special things, but the most special part of this room is when it brings my family together.
When I was growing up I had to get use to the idea of never having privacy because that didn 't exist in my family. My family was nosy the perfect example of crazy. If you have seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding then you 're pretty close to imagining how my family is. Unlike the movie we don 't live in separate houses we live in one big house all of us together. My family is what I would call a classic definition of crazy. I was one of the few students in my graduating class who had parents that weren 't divorced. I was one of the 7 people in my class who needed more than 5 invites because my family isn 't just my mom, dad, and sister. My family is my mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, grate grandma, and my sister. Not mention all of these people live with me in the same home and that 's not including my cousin and my aunt and uncle who also live with me. My family is a big part of who I am but people would think that it 's crazy and wouldn 't be able to deal with so many people in the same house all the time. If I were to be truly honest it took some adjusting to get use to the silence when I first moved to Missouri. I will try to explain how my world came to be, my parents, my extended family, and how we keep it under control.
In this discussion, I will be explaining how I define family. I will also include my immediate and extended family. I will also describe what family means to me, how mine differs from other families in my neighborhood, and also how they are similar. I will also describe my family’s ethnicity and how it may affect any of my family’s health.
While collecting research, I mainly asked my parents’ for information pertaining to relatives. I do not live close enough to. The patterns running in the family were not surprising as I have already known most of it. The extroversion persons in the family were somewhat surprising as my aunt and uncle whom I suspected to be introverted were actually extroverted. Surprisingly, my family members were acceptable to answering questions which might have been a little private. Most times, they agreed to the patterns discovered, but did not add any insight to any additional patterns once I explained the project.
To me my family is very different than other families I know. In my nuclear family my father is in the military, and was constantly away when I was young so we were always going back and forth between being a whole family and having to adapt to my father being away. In my extended family my aunt was adopted from a northern Aboriginal community when she was two, as well two months before I was born my grandmother died and my grandpa remarried when I was two, then we found out when I was eleven that my grandpa was adopted. All these little things have put a lot of pressure on our family who tries to act to the outside world that we are the perfect family. My beliefs and values of what a family is has been immensely influenced by these events.
Many of us have role models in our lives and to most people role models are athletes and movie stars, but to me a role model is much more. To me a role model is a person who has positively influenced someone in life, and is not a person filled with selfishness and greed. They help shape someone’s personality, and characteristics. They are people who someone can look up to for advice in a hard situation, and know that they will give those words of wisdom. They will never judge our past actions, instead only look to help because they really care. A role model is someone who we should never feel awkward talking to about our problems. A perfect role model for me is my mother. She is a wonderful human being. She’s smart, wise, ambitious, patient and such a loving person. There are no words that can describe my gratitude towards her, but through this essay I will describe some of her characteristics that makes her my role model.
After writing about my history and the themes I selected, I have learned a lot about who I am in society. I have realized that I am an average girl that has not experienced much of life. During this analysis I have come to realize I have not had much contact with other family types or other cultures.
