How I Celebrate Thanksgiving Thanksgiving is the time of year where families gather to give thanks. It is the season where the color of the leaves are orange and brown, and pumpkins are all around, which is why I love Thanksgiving so much. Thanksgiving is celebrated differently throughout the world. The way my family celebrates Thanksgiving goes in the same process, making it our own tradition. First, we must prepare for our extended family members to arrive. My mother gives us all certain assignments we must complete while she bakes the turkey. My siblings and I begin to move the furniture, so we can fit more chairs in the dining room. Then we start to bring up the dusty chairs and dust them off. Once the chairs are in place, we enter the kitchen with our mother to see what needs to be done in there. My sister helps my mother with the cooking and watching the clock, while my brother goes outside to move our cars out of the way for the guest’s vehicles. While that is all going on, I set up the table with decorations and clean up the kitchen so people have room to put their dishes of food. Once we are prepared for the guests to arrive, we wait patiently for the fun to begin. My siblings and I may break out a short card game to pass the time. Slowly, guests start to arrive. I always start by picking up everyone's plastic cups and disposing them in the trash, while my mother looks around the house to see if someone forgot anything. My siblings help clear the tables and get rid of any extra trash I missed. Then my mother begins to clean her dishes, while my brother moves the heavy furniture back to where they were. While this is happening, my mom tells me to shower so later others can shower and not have to wait on me. When I am in the shower, my mother vacuums the carpet to get rid of the crumbs. After my shower, the house is back to normal, so I go to bed because I am worn out from the

Alice has been a long time Jewish friend of mine that lives in New York she will be turning 19 this year she always travels down to celebrate Hanukkah with her family. She is studying business and is hoping to get her master after she gets her bachelor’s degree. She is currently enrolled in New York University, which she likes and enjoys her experience. She is a hard worker and doesn’t make it to many celebrations, but has never missed a Hanukkah with her family. Her father is Jewish while her mother is Christian giving a unique view on the tradition. She is an only child so is kind of spoiled on this holidays. I get most of my views of the Jewish life from her. While her mother is Christian she doesn’t impose as much she says that when she does come down for any other holiday she spends it with my family. So far we have only seen her for thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving is a holiday that began hundreds of years ago. It was a celebration of many different things. One of the most important reasons for the celebration was thankfulness that many of the Pilgrims survived the first year of their new lives in America. Today, however, Thanksgiving seems to have a very different meaning to people. Their main focus is not being thankful for the things they have, but wanting more.
Coming to a close after nearly two hours, tradition dictates the youngest, most able of the family enthusiastically engage in clean up. Their responsibility to clear the tables of dirty dishes, empty glasses and used napkins is taken seriously by each participant. Proper “Grandma approved” kitchen cleansing and appropriate dish washing is mentored by the older ones, rarely over 25, to the younger ones, generally over ten years of age.
We dont really have any unique family traditions. The only thing that we seem to do over and over is meet up at an certain family members house and feast. Usually during Thanksgiving it’s the cooler weather. We usually have windbreakers or something of that nature on.
A big part of Thanksgiving is a Thanksgiving feast. The feast usually consists of potatoes, corn, sweet potatoes, peas, gravy, stuffing, salads, buns and lots of other great food. The main part of the feast is usually the turkey. Other families might have ham, roast beef, duck or chicken. The dessert that is most likely to follow the feast is pumpkin pie. Other people may choose different desserts and food depending on their customs and beliefs for which they choose to give thanks. Let’s not forget the biggest and most important reason for this holiday – giving THANKS! People usually give thanks for everything they have. Their jobs, health, families or just being alive are just a few of the things that people give thanks for.

Thanksgiving for my family probably looks a lot like the thanksgiving for most families in the United States. My family always does their best to remember to give thanks for everything that we had that past year and everything that we have in general. From each other, to the house we are in to the food and the cars we drive. It is very valued in my family to give thanks before we indulge in the delicious meal that was prepared by so many different
It is November 27th, Thanksgiving Day, a cool day outside where one could get by wearing jeans and a sweater if they wanted. My two siblings and I are searching the closet for the sea of forks, knives and spoons located in a big, leather trunk with a large golden buckle on the front. Again, just like every year, we are to drape the white table cloth on the table and set up the silverware, forks on the left and the shiny new knives on the right. “I did my part I’m done” or “can you get out of my way already” can be heard coming from the dining room. From the kitchen, conversations aren 't sounding much better. Confusion over who was to put the flaky croissants in the oven at 9:30 am has led to an argument between my mother and
While many prefer to serve the meal family style, with all the dishes on the table, my family will typically serve it buffet style to increase efficiency. Another important component of proper dining is arranging the tables. On my mother’s side of the family, the youngest people are my two-year-old twin cousins. However, the next youngest person is my fifteen-year-old brother. This discrepancy is fixed by a system that allows small children to be with these parents while still providing a separate table for teenagers and young adults. After everyone is seated, someone will lead us all in prayer. This person is typically my father or my Uncle Tom. Once this has been done, my grandmother will be the first to receive her share of food, but after her, chaos breaks out with everyone looking to get whatever food they want. After everyone retrieves their meal, it is best to have everyone sit down and eat. Make sure each table is equipped with such necessary condiments as gravy, butter, salt, and pepper. Thanksgiving Dinner is one of the best times for conversion. In my family, we will tell corny jokes and discuss interesting subjects, such as school, during this time.
