Professional amplification has allowed music to be broadcasted to a larger audience and given access

Not only have we been bombarded by an incredible variety of stimuli, but there has also been a constant demand for novelty. New styles in fashion and the visual arts spread rapidly and then disappear. In music as well, the emphasis has been on novelty and change. Musical innovations since 1945 have been even more far reaching than those of the first half of the 20th century. There have been many new directions, and the range of musical styles and systems is wider than ever” (Kamien 2008: 349). This statement suggests that music styles and forms have dramatically changed over time. However, when analysing impressionism repertoire from 1893 and 2008, it is clear, that despite the large time gap, new pieces of impressionist music still include the same characteristics and influences as in the 1800’s. The following evaluation and analysis will prove to disagree with the above …show more content…

Aside from the most famous impressionist composers, Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel, some other prominent composers include Charles Tomlinson Griffes, Karol Szymanowski, Frederick Delious and Erik Satie.
Claude Debussy:
Claude Debussy was amongst one of the most influential composers of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. His compositions, distinctive and appealing, combined modernism and sensuality so successfully that their pure beauty often obscures their technical innovation. Debussy is considered the founder of musical Impressionism.
Born on August 22, 1862, Claude Debussy was born into a poor family in France. From a young age, Debussy showed a gift as a pianist and began taking lessons at the age of seven. By the time Debussy was eleven years old, he had entered the Paris Conservatory where his talents were recognized. He created a system of harmony and musical structure that expressed in many respects the ideals to which the Impressionist and Symbolist painters and writers of his time aspired. Some of his main works include Clair De Lune (“Moonlight”,1890–1905), Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune (1894), Pelléas et Mélisande opera (1902), and La Mer (“The Sea,
A number of other genres, throughout the decade, maintained a significant following. One genre that was slow to start was Hip-Hop, while it emerged in the 1970’s it didn’t become significant until the late 1980’s. Although Classical music began to lose impetus, it gave way to a new generation of composers through invention and theoretical development. The decade was also distinguished for its assistance to electronic music, which rose in reco...
Johannes Brahms was born on Tuesday 7th may 1833, in the city of Hamburg the birthplace also of Mendelssohn. Johann Brahms was himself a musician, and played the double bass for a time at the Karl Schultze Theatre, and later in the Stadttheater orchestra. In 1847 Johannes attended a good Burgerschule (citizens? school), and in 1848 a better, that of one Hoffmann. When he was eight years old his father requested the teachers to be very easy with him because of the time that he must take for his musical studies.
Beyond what they painted, Impressionists conveyed the modern city through their style of painting. They used techniques that emphasized that the scene was a moment in time. Many of their paintings were sketch-like, using thin but visible brushstrokes. They depicted light and shadows accurately, which often set the painting at a certain time of day. Also, they conveyed a sense of movement in their paintings, especially in human figures. These factors allow viewers to believe that the subjects of a painting w...
Throughout the semester, various styles of music and the aspects of culture associated with these styles have been analyzed. Musical elements such as dynamics, texture, form, timbre, melody, instruments, etc., have been used to thoroughly explore each kind of music from different areas of the world, with an emphasis in music from Africa, India and Indonesia. These aspects of music go far beyond just music itself. Culture also plays a huge role in music and the accompanying musical elements. Each country and culture has a different style and distinctiveness that add to what makes the music of that certain culture unique. Music in Africa may differ dramatically from music in Indonesia or India not only due to those certain elements but also due to how it is interpreted by people and what it represents for those people. In addition to this, what one may consider music in one culture may not be music to another. These differences have been made apparent in the several demonstrations that we have been exposed to in class.
The Internet—as it did for almost everything—has radically changed the way people get music. The Internet has cut into the music industry's profits. It reduced the demand for CDs, increased the interest in singles and let people decide whether they want to pay for the new Prince album. This alone could be offset if all of the people pirating music would go to their favorite artists' shows. However, the hard economy has rapidly cut into people's ability to spend on luxury items and concerts rank right up there with sports in terms of practicality.
Achille-Claude Debussy was one of the most renowned French composers who stimulated the music of the twentieth-century. Debussy’s life experiences have given an emotional and relatable truth to his work. Works such as Clair de Lune, Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune, and La Mer are great achievements of Debussy that are the most familiar today. Debussy is worth reviewing because he uniquely structured his compositions that served as a base for musicians in the past, and will easily continue to motivate musical masterpieces for years to come. Claude Debussy (born Achille-Claude Debussy) was born August 22, 1862, in St-Germain-en-Laye, France.
The Use of Electronic Technology in 20th and 21st Century Music In this essay, I have examined the use of electronic technology within 20th and 21st Century music. This has involved analysis of the development and continuing refinement of the computer in today’s music industry, as well as the theory of the synthesiser and the various pioneers of electronic technology, including Dr. Robert Moog and Les Paul. Also within the essay, I have discussed the increasing use of computers in the recording studio. The computer has become an indispensable tool in ensuring that both recording and playback sound quality is kept at the maximum possible level. Many positive ideas have come from the continued onslaught of computerisation.
In 1829, he left his hometown and started his music tour to Italy, France and England. During this period of time, he published many significant compositions, which included the overture Die Hebriden (1829), the Reformation Symphony (1830) and the Italian Symphony (1832) etc.
Claude Monet was born on November 14, 1840, in Paris, France and moved to LeHavre with his family at age five (Skira 21). As a schoolboy, Monet doodled in the margins of his books. His artistic career began by drawing caricatures of his schoolmasters distorting their faces and profiles outrageously. By the time he was fifteen, people would pay ten or twenty francs for one of his drawings (Skira 22).

To fully understand any musical style, one must be able to analyze the various elements of music as they exist in that particular style. In subsequent musical close-ups, we shall examine one or another of these elements in greater detail as it pertains to a given style or topic.
Less than one hundred years ago, there was a turning point not only in technology, but in music. Traditionally, music was always created by series a of natural musical sounds created by instruments. An electroacoustic genre was introduced by two men, raised by parents of musical background, that changed the way we produce music through technology. Pierre Schaeffer, the father of musique concrète, introduced abstract sound outside of the musical theory boundaries. Robert Moog developed synthesizers which became a milestone in the technology of electronic music.
One of the most significant changes in components of music that formed twentieth century music is rhythm. The modern music is full of complex rhythms and time signatures. The major reason for the increase of rhythms in twentieth century music is the development of the ballet. The second component of twentieth century music is melody. This new music moves away from the traditional melodic line that previous musical styles had developed. Modern composers have also rejected...
