Football has accumulated a vast number of fans throughout history. Today, the total fan base of football is a staggering 3.5 billion people, which makes it the most admired sport in the world. With half the world’s population enthralled with football, there are numerous people who take this sport to the extreme. During tournaments, such as, UEFA Champions League, and of course the World Cup; football fans make sure others know which team is going to win. From various chants specifically toward the opposing team, to fights in the streets with one another, fans will do almost anything to let others know which team is better. Today, a soccer team consists of eleven members: seven offensive and four defensive players. One rule that has stayed the same since soccer began, the goalie may use his/her hands to prevent the ball from entering the net. Players are not allowed to trip, hold, shove, push, kick or strike any other player on the field. A game of football is divided into two half's, both forty-five minutes long with added time if there were pauses in the game depending on how much time was wasted. Just as in any sport, players will try to exploit the rules to have an advantage over the opponent. Tactics such as falling down without contact to receive a free kick is common to see in football. Borrowing some of the greatest aspects of American culture, football has truly become a spectacle not only in the United States but also around the world. This level of entertainment is not only reserved for the NFL: college football, and high school football also provide enormous value to fans. Although fans of American football cannot have enough of the sport, they are more docile compared to football fans. I admire the enthusiasm of the fans by having pre-game tailgate to rile themselves up for the upcoming game, but for me that’s as far as it goes. American football fans do not bring the same enthusiasm during the game as football
