How Golf Changed My Life

For as long as I can remember, golf has been at the forefront of my life. Whether it is swinging a plastic club around the house at age 2, competing in the State Championship in the final pairing, golf has undoubtedly shaped me into the person I am today. Most of the friends, meaningful life lessons, and unforgettable experiences were all provided through my involvement with golf. My junior career started when I was 9, on a local junior tour called the Chippewa Valley Golf Association. I enjoyed every second of it, through the good shots and the bad shots, and I knew that competitive golf was where I belonged. In addition, as I grew a little taller, the WPGA Junior Foundation presented larger and better fields, on more difficult golf courses. …show more content…

Every event I did my best to learn what I did well and what I could improve on, but most importantly I learned to cherish the beautiful golf courses and wonderful people I met along the way. When the end of middle school came around, COVID struck like a bolt of lightning, and I decided to move to a different school in hopes of playing for a better golf and basketball team, along with a more diverse option of classes. However, this proved to be a very difficult challenge for me. Furthermore, on the first day of high school, I knew little to no students, and we only went to school 2 days a week, always wearing masks. I was down, missing my friends and the old school I went to. With COVID seeming to be never ending, golf was my haven, my friend, and my passion. Many of my nights after school were spent playing until I lost a golf ball, all to prepare for the upcoming spring season. The year went by terribly slow, but eventually, spring rolled around, and my freshman year of golf was waiting for me. Teammates of mine were itching for another chance at a state title, and I was ready to be apart of that. We had a successful season, playing some astonishing courses across the state, and made our way to the first state championship at Blackwolf Run. We persevered through the rain and wind on a difficult golf course to win the team title by 3 strokes, and I managed to win the medalist by just 1 shot. As I look back, it was without doubt one of the happiest moments of my life, and moving schools finally paid off. Similarly, my junior year was almost just as successful, although we fell just short of repeating a state title. I learned more this year than any other year, especially things that do not always go your way, no matter how certain you are about something. In my senior year, I cherished all the teachers and friends I have met and felt very grateful for the experiences my high school provided me with. We have qualified for another trip to Kohler this year, and I cannot help but feel a little emotional it is coming to the end. With this, I am going to enjoy every second of it, and hold my head high for the school I have played for and what we have accomplished, no matter the
