Recommended: Inhuman treatment during the holocaust

Whether or not inhumanity causes a person to become evil, it been a debatable topic. Some may believe that the acts of inhumanity makes people stronger, but the acts of inhumanity have shown devastating impacts on its survivors. Inhumanity is an extreme cruelty and brutal behavior towards a group of people or person. One significant example of inhumanity is the Holocaust. The Holocaust was a time in history where great acts of inhumanity were committed towards Jews. Night illustrates the idea that inhumanity influences a person to develop change become evil. Inhumanity does cause people to become evil because the cruelty and insanity causes them to become an inconsiderate individual who lacks a sense of identity. Being treated in an inhumane way will impact people causing them to lose their sense of humanity. As noted on page 101, Elie states “ Meir, my little Mier! Don’t you recognize me...You’re killing your father...I have bread...for you too… He collapsed… groaned and died”( Wiesel pg.101). This implies that the prisoners cared more about their survival than even their loved ones. This shows an example of one of the prisoners being cruel for his own survival. Inhumanity causes people to become inconsiderate and lose their sense of humanity and their sense of identity. Some believe inhumanity makes people stronger, but the tragedy that occurs with inhumanity causes people to feel as if their life has no meaning. “Night” demonstrates the effects of inhumanity through Elie’s experience. Generally speaking, dealing with inhumanity will eventually cause a person to become inhumane themselves. All things considerate, inhumanity occurs everyday, it if inhumanity doesn’t cease to exist the world would be filled with inconsiderate inhumane people. The book ends as Elie’s father is now dead and the American army has liberated them. As Elie is recovering in the hospital he gazes at himself in a mirror, he subtly notes he much he has changed. In Night by Elie Wiesel, Elie loses his innocence and demeanour because he was traumatized by what he saw in the camps, his loss of faith in a God who stood idly by while his people suffered, and becoming selfish as he is forced to become selfish in the death camps to survive.

In addition to that "For more than half an hour stayed there, struggling between life and death, dying in slow agony under our eyes. And we had to look him full in the face. He was still alive when I passed in front of him. His tongue was still red, his eyes were not yet glazed." This is also very inhumane example since the child's weight wasn’t enough to snap his neck when he was hung and so he is slowly dying painful death as all Jewish people walk by him, being forced to watch the cruelty.
