In The Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises Christopher Nolan uses factors such as make up, camera angles, lighting, costuming, camera shots and music to symbolize scenes in different situations. All of these factors portray the heroes, false heroes and anti-heroes.

Harvey Dent is a true definition of a false hero. Harvey dent plays a major role in the story and makes appearances at the beginning of the story where he claimed to be a hero. Through out the story Harvey Dent is a "hero" as he is shown with eye level shots and is in bright lighting when we look at camera angle and camera shots as well as lighting. As the story hits its climaxes and anti-climaxes all of this goes south as At this point where changed starts happen chiaroscuro lighting starts to show that he is changing and he is two faced. The change happens when the joker influences Harvey Dent into a a revenge seeking beast. At this moment in the story Harvey isn't the hero Gotham new anymore. The bright and vibrant lighting at this point was very well done as it was in the case of a metaphor showing that Harvey was "White Knight," contradicting to the dim lighting used on batman as their kind of switched sides at the end. The reason for is that he is protagonist and he is in need of heroic attributes. Christopher Nolan proves this definition when he makes Batman's theme black and by associating low angles which made him seem superior and like a god with batman. Nolan also does this by making Batman's theme color black. Batman's ways methods of dealing with crime and how he eliminates villains corresponds with his dark theme.
