From the very start of Romeo and Juliet we are told that it was destined for Romeo and Juliet to end up in death. However, I think that if a couple things went differently than Romeo and Juliet could of had a successful marriage and maybe even bring their families together. If the Friar, Tybalt, and Balthasar had done different things then I believe the story could've ended up differently. If Tybalt and Mercutio never got in a fight that Romeo had to step in on then the death of Tybalt would have never happened, as well as the thought of Romeo killing someone would not have been on Juliet’s side of the families minds. If the Friar had not given the letter to Romeo to Friar John and made sure that it got there himself then Romeo would’ve known …show more content…
the plan. Lastly, if Balthasar didn’t tell Romeo that Juliet was dead when he actually didn’t know for sure then Romeo would never have tried to kill himself. The fight between Tybalt, Romeo, Benvolio, and Mercutio could have definitely been avoided.
You can see that in the text that Benvolio does not want this fight, but Mercutio keeps fighting and picking a fight. Benvolio even says, “ I pray thee, good Mercutio, let’s retire. The day is hot; the Capulets, abroad; And if we meet we shall not ’scape a brawl, For now, these hot days, is the mad blood stirring.” You can see that there was an effort to stop this fight from even happening, but Shakespeare obviously does not want the story to end up this way. Right then he could of had the characters stop the bickering and walk the other direction. However, he decides to put Tybalt in the scene and even though Romeo is trying to calm down the commotion at the beginning it does not work and things get so bad that it leads Romeo to kill Tybalt, which is the first place that we see the story go for a …show more content…
spin. The next spot in the story where things could’ve gone differently takes place with the Friar when he leaves it up to Friar John to deliver the letter to Romeo.
All the messengers and workers that Friar John tries to get to take the letter won’t because they are afraid of getting sickness. You can hear it in the Friars voice when he says, “ Now must I to the monument alone.Within this three hours will fair Juliet wake. She will beshrew me much that Romeo Hath had no notice of these accidents. But I will write again to Mantua, And keep her at my cell till Romeo come. Poor living corse, closed in a dead man’s tomb,” that this was not the ideal plan that the Friar had either, however if the plan was thought out more and the Friar would of made sure that it got to Romeo then Romeo would have never heard news from Balthazar and would not have had to take matters into his own hands.
If Balthasar had been sure on this news then Romeo would not have ever got any medication to kill himself. As soon as he heard this news he rushed and told Romeo that Juliet was dead. He tells Romeo that, “Then she is well, and nothing can be ill. Her body sleeps in Capels' monument, And her immortal part with angels lives.” If he had gotten the news from someone who was in the plan then he might of been able to tell Romeo the plan which would have solved the issue of Romeo killing himself. This however is not what was
intended. In conclusion, the events of Romeo and Juliet’s s death could off been avoidable if some things in the story were different. If Tybalt never got into a fight, the Friar delivered the letter, and Balthasar had known the truth about Juliet their deaths would have been avoidable. This piece of literature has a lot to do with timing. If these events happened at different times then they would have never died either. Although the author did not intend them to live, these are some events that prove that it could’ve been possible.
.However,as the play progresses,it becomes noticeable that Benvolio has changed through his character and makes different choices to help his friends, but as the same time deceives them. The text states that,”O noble Prince,I can discover all The unlucky manage of this fatal brawl. There lies the man, slain by young Romeo,That slew thy kinsman, brave Mercutio.”(3.1 144-147) Shakespeare forms him to be a leader when situations are not the best between the Capulets and the Montagues;he portrayed beginning when the “civil brawls”(1.1 92) first started breaking out in the streets.
Romeo was very loyal to his friends and family, and it is possible that Mercutio thought that Romeo would help him fight off Tybalt (since he was unaware of Romeo and Juliet’s secret marriage that somewhat united Romeo and Tybalt). However, this argument is easily deemed invalid. Romeo was not in the town square when the fight had first begun, so Mercutio expected his help in the fight would be a far-fetched idea. A person who is not present cannot help or hinder the situation at hand. In addition, Romeo tried to break up the fight when he said, “Gentlemen, for shame forbear this outrage!
If Romeo had restrained himself from killing Tybalt, or waited a day before killing himself after hearing about Juliet's death, it. might have ended happily, and if Romeo didn't have such deep feelings. his love for Juliet wouldn't have existed in the first place. Juliet, like Romeo, shouldn't have rushed into marrying each other, and. Juliet said, "It was too rash, too unadvis'd, too sudden.
As you know, the result was Romeo hearing of Juliet's death, causing his suicide. This, in turn, led to Juliet's suicide. So, as you can see, if Romeo had not held Mercutio back, Mercutio may not have been killed, therefore Romeo would not have killed Tybalt, causing his banishment. If Romeo had not killed Tybalt, Juliet would not have been rushed into marriage, and the Friar would not have been rushed into finding a solution to this marriage. Another example of the change in the outcome of the story is if a particular servant wasn't illiterate.
In the modernized version, "Romeo + Juliet," Mercutio is at a beach, with Benvolio, until Tybalt Capulet makes his arrival. One difference right there is that the three of them are at a tavern in the play, but at a beach in the movie. To follow along, Romeo began the fight, not Mercutio, and Tybalt began to fight Ro...
After Romeo retrieved the poison, he was later reunited with Balthasar at the tomb of Juliet. Here, Romeo demands Balthasar does not follow him by emphasizing “And do not interrupt me in my course./Why I descend into this bed of death/ is partly to behold my lady’s face, /But chiefly to take thence from her dead finger a precious ring…” (5.3.27-31) Balthasar responds by simpling obeying his master and tells him what he wants to hear, “I will be gone, sir, and not trouble you.” (5.3.40) At this time, Balthasar fully understands that Romeo plans to commit suicide. Romeo tells him to deliver a letter of apology and explanation to his father and wishes the good fellow farewell. By leaving Romeo be while being in the know of his future actions, Balthasar proves himself as a trustworthy friend but displays that he could have prevented the death of Romeo and Juliet. Thus, further events in the play could have potentially been the man’s
Unfortunately, Romeo wasn’t informed of the plan, and after he heard about Juliet’s death, he sincerely believed she had died. Balthasar, who told Romeo of Juliet’s ‘death’, didn’t want to leave Romeo unaccompanied because he believed that he looked ‘.pale and wild and did import some misadventure. ’(116) lines 28-29. Balthasar’s suspicions were valid because Romeo decided to take his life. He did not stop to ask how she died, or what Friar Laurence had to say about her death.
In the very opening of the play the chorus is singing about Romeo and Juliet, and predicts their life together as having a star-crossed conclusion. By already knowing from the beginning that their life has an ill-fated conclusion, we can see how their choices brought them to their death. Romeo and Juliet could see that their life together was not going the way they wanted, because Romeo and Juliet wanted to marry each other but there were many barriers between them. Both Romeo and Juliet had many failed attempts in their efforts to trick fate out of what was ultimately going to happen to them both. Hold! Get you gone, be strong and prosperous in this resolve. I’ll send a friar with speed to Mantua, with my letters to thy lord. (IV, i, 122-124)
Shakespeare has been know for many plays but one of his famous one is “Romeo and Juliet” Which has two teens from rivalling families who fell in love with each other but through misunderstandings and not well thought out plans by their mentors led to both Romeo and Juliet’s death by suicide. There were many ways that these “Star-crossed lovers” could avoided their fate with more thought out ideas and bring more people into their plans but untimely they died from plans from their mentors. What is the Relationship between Romeo and Juliet parents? Well Romeo’s relationship with his parents is they care for him very deeply. His mother was very relieved when he was not at the quarreled in the market. “O, where is Romeo?/Saw him today?/Right glad
After Romeo is misled about his beloved Juliet 's death, he desperately finds for "a rainstiff wretch [who] would sell [the poison to] him"(V.ii.35). This demonstrates his immaturity and youthfulness as he were guided by his emotions instead of rational thinking. Because his heart was torn with sorrow, he was not able to make a sagacious decision taking into account the subject carefully. Romeo could have waited for Friar Laurence 's message to come as Friar told him he will contrive a clandestine plan to resolve the problem between Romeo and Juliet. It was his choice alone to kill himself, no one forced him to do it. If Romeo would had kept it together and mourned properly, he would have lived happily with Juliet. Furthermore, Juliet also decides to take the same action. Instead of searching for a new way of living, she hoped for "some poison yet doth hang on [Romeo]/ to make [her] die with a restorative"(V.iii.163-167). This clearly illustrates how they used the power of decision making unwisely. Juliet was too indiscreet to disobey her parents and follow her lover who she knew only for a couple of days. Both of these characters did not recognize the power of love and caused a self destructive violence. Romeo 's tragic flow was proved to be fatal when he was unable to see the consequences of his decisions. His downfall spiral was determined
...a little earlier or even later, Friar John could have avoided getting caught up with the plague. This could have led to Romeo receiving the letter, and him ending up with Juliet. Also the timing of the plague is very unfortunate. The chances of a plague being at the exact time Friar John was delivering the letter to Romeo are very low. Second of all, if Balthasar saw Juliet any later than he did, the Friar could have gotten to Romeo before him. The timing of these two events are very unfortunate, and readers only have it to blame
...events leading up to his death may not have happened. If Romeo thought about what the consequences to starting a fight with Tybalt would do, he would not have killed him, and he would not be in Mantua. If Romeo had thought about Juliet’s death and talked to Friar Lawrence before he did anything, both of the lovers would still be alive. Maybe, if Romeo and Juliet took things slower and acted rationally, they may have had a “happily ever after”.
The letter explains the plan for Juliet and Romeo to eventually escape and live their lives together, but since it never sent to Romeo, that did not happen at all. Friar Laurence’s rashness is evident when he sends Friar John alone to Mantua, forgetting the rule that forbids a friar (John) from travelling without the company of another friar. Meanwhile, Friar Laurence is aware that a contagious plague is spreading throughout Verona, yet he does not choose to go with Friar John himself. There is a huge risk that John would find a companion that has to be quarantined due to the sickness, which is the case in the story. Kriegel announces regarding the Friar’s impulsiveness, “Had Friar John left the city immediately in the company of a “safe” member of his order, he would never have been delayed and would have been able to send the letter to Romeo.” Now, the Friar is mindful that his plan is destroyed and he needs to do everything he can to repair his fault. In Shakespeare's tragedy, John explains to the Friar how he was unable to deliver the letter, and Friar Laurence replies, “Unhappy fortune! By my brotherhood/ The letter was not nice but full of charge/ Of dear import, and the neglecting it/ May do much danger” (V.II.17-20). The Friar recognizes his flaw of being unable to deliver the significant letter to Romeo in order for his plan to succeed. Laurence’s unthoughtful plan only led to further problems days after, specifically the death of Romeo and
Benvolio is talking to Mercutio and says “ Tybalt, the kinsman to old Capulet, Hath sent a letter to his father house,”(2.4.6-7). Tybalt sent a letter to the Montague house challenging Romeo to a dual for because he went to the Capulet party. Another reason Tybalt is the one to blame, is when Tybalt finds Romeo in the streets and tells and tells Rome “Boy, this shall not excuse the injuries that thou hast done me; therefore turn and draw”(3.1.64-65). Tybalt challenges Romeo in the streets and calls him a boy. Tybalt is the one to blame because if Romeo didn’t challenge Romeo, and Mercutio wouldn’t have died and Romeo would not have killed Tybalt in rage. Therefore, Tybalt is the one to blame for Romeo and Juliet
If Romeo and Juliet had lived the would not have been happy together. In the play Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare the Capulet and Montague families have been feuding for many years. Over time the hatred has carried on from generation to generation. When Romeo and Juliet met for the first time they instantly fell in love. Although the families hated each other no one knew their children were secretly in love. Since that night the two could not stop thinking about each other and when they saw each other again the decided to get married. That night in the Friar’s cell the two were married and couldn’t be happier, but little did they know what the events in the future hold. Only a couple hours after the wedding Mercutio is killed by Tybalt,
