She had a very hard and difficult childhood, which she soon changed into a very wealthy adulthood. She starred in several movies and was very famous. Her life ended too suddenly due to complications. Marilyn Monroe is an influential person because of her rough childhood life, her modeling and acting career, and her passion to making her dreams come true.

Monroe and her mother were never close either. An orphanage or foster care was where Monroe lived most of her life until she was sixteen. Her life in foster care was harsh. She was sexually abused several times at a young age. Jimmy Dougherty, her next door neighbor was her only way out of foster care, so she married him at the age of sixteen. Soon after, Jimmy Dougherty left for work in the east coast and when he came back Monroe already had a full blown career. In 1946 they got divorced due to Monroe’s career. Years later she married a baseball star, Joe DiMaggio. Nine months later they divorced because DiMaggio didn’t like her personal photos all over the world. Soon enough Arthur Miller came along. Monroe and Miller married in 1956. Five years later they divorced. Although her life ended way too soon. On August 5, 1962 Monroe died of a drug overdose at the age of only 36 years old. Marilyn Monroe’s very successful career was as a model and an actress. The Blue Book Modeling Agency noticed her working in a factory and offered her a job. Although she was a model, she always had a dream of becoming an actress. Soon after her dreams came true. Twentieth Century Fox offered her a job.The 1950’s was when Monroe’s acting career took off. Her small part in The Asphalt Jungle was a hit and drew more attention towards her. All About Eve came out the same year and astonished the critics. Hollywood would soon see Marilyn Monroe as one of the best actresses. Later in 1953 they released Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. That was when Monroe earned her sex symbol. Soon she came out with many more five star movies. In 1954, There’s No Business like show Business came out. In 1955, they released the Seven Year Itch. Bus stop was later released in 1956. Although she was popular she was not a pleasure to work with. Her crew would often complain about her not showing up to filming. That lead to a tense relationship with several people. She might of been difficult to work with, but she still kept producing movies. For example The Prince and The Showgirl and Some Like it Hot. She even got her own movie called My Week with Marilyn. Many more movies came out, but her last two Somethings Gotta Give and Let’s make Love were total washouts. That was the end of her career due to her tragic death. Marilyn Monroe achieved and worked hard towards many things in her career and got rewarded for those things.

According to photoplay she again won the most popular female star again in 1953. In 1954 Monroe won the Henrietta Award for world film favorite. In 1960 she won a Golden Globe for best motion picture female actress from Some Like it Hot. Golden Globes gave her another award in 1962 for world film favorite female. Grace and Doc Goddard got paid 25 dollars a week by Monroe’s mother. The Goddard’s were very strict. They would never let Monroe out of their sight. Doc later got a job transfer and couldn’t afford to move Monroe with them, so back to the foster homes and orphanages Monroe went. At the age of eleven Monroe was sexually abused several times. Once she got out of foster care and the orphanage her troubles didn’t stop there. Jimmy Dougherty, her first husband, made her choose between him or her rapidly rising career. It was a difficult choice, but she chose her life as acting instead. Another obstacle that she overcame was Joe Dimaggio, her second husband. He didn’t like that private images of her went public. That also led to a divorce. Another struggle was that she was an alcoholic, which she never fully recovered from. After being hospitalized in an New York psychiatric clinic she went back to working with Twentieth Fox Century. Soon after, she got fired because she was prone to mood swings. Not only did Monroe suffer from being emotionally ill she would also become physically ill due to her pre performance anxiety. Marilyn died of a overdose on sleeping pills. Later they found out that she committed suicide. She had so many challenges, but that didn’t keep her back. Marilyn Monroe’s life was full of high and low moments, such as a harsh childhood to an amazing star to making her dreams come true, that’s what makes her important.
She was amazing at her job as an actor and model. Her difficult childhood made her push harder until she reached her goal as an actor. Her acting took off and her movies were hits. Her life was ended too soon, but her death does not stop us her from remembering her as an amazing Hollywood

I am going to study the background of the time period, and learn if the current events such as the Civil Rights Movement and the Cold War, had any impact on Monroe's life, or whether Monroe herself had any influences politics in mid-20th century. I will also explore on how Monroe’s image influenced and redefined the feminism in the 21st century.
