The downside to my position may be that of her mental state, or possibly that she was one of the most popular sex symbols of America in the 1950s. Marilyn Monroe was famous because she was an American actress, model, and singer. I believe she was more famous than most because of her ability to act well, her stunning looks, along with her attention grabbing angelic voice.
Marilyn Monroe started her acting career when she signed her first movie contract in 1946, the same year she divorced her first husband James Dougherty. This did not make her extremely famous until she played a small part in drama/crime The Asphalt Jungle. She was one of the few actresses considered being sexy and this made her one of the biggest sex symbols in America. Ironically, she played as a dumb blonde but in all reality, she was very intelligent. She would often speak out about feminism, which made her hero for woman and some men, this pushed her more towards her journey to fame. What added on to her fame was she was the first celebrity to speak to the public about sexual abuse along with winning a large variety of awards for her acting, singing, and modeling.
As a model and an actress, she also struggled with them fame. She turned to drugs and alcohol to help balance her mood and the stress of being famous. Her struggle with alcoholism and drug addiction also contributed greatly to her fame, most people that know about her also know this is what caused her death. Marilyn Monroe died of a drug overdose, some say it was an accident and then some say she purposely took too much. She died at the age of 36 due to her drug addiction, this put the nation in

Although her childhood was rough, she became one of the most successful woman of her time in the 1950s. She started out with acting which progressed into modeling then she began to sing and act in her movies. She was known to have a great singing voice and known to be a great actor, with awards for acting and singing to prove it.

Norma was born into harsh conditions and did not experience a typical childhood due to her continual moving. Born named Norma Jeane Mortensen, now known as Marilyn Monroe was born in Los Angeles, California on June 1, 1926 (Marilyn Monroe 2). Brought into harsh conditions Marilyn rarely spent time with her mother, and no time with her father (“Marilyn Monroe 1”). Monroe experienced brutal conditions starting at the age of two when she was nearly smothered to death, and almost raped at the age of six. Also through her rough childhood she was tossed through numerous foster homes and an orphanage (“Marilyn Monroe 2”). To avoid another orphanage stay at the age of sixteen, a family friend organized a marriage proposal (“Marilyn Monroe 3”) After marriage, “Norma Jeane took the job in an airline plant, part of world war II factory effort, and worked first as a parachute inspector, than as a paint sprayer” (Lewis). As Monroe had a brutal childhood, she also had challenging relationships with her family members.
Most likely, She only changed her name to Marilyn Monroe to be an actress, model, and a dancer. She was a successful model by 1946. Her acting career didn't take off until about 1950. Marilyn used to have stage fright. This caused her to have anxiety attacks before one of her pre performances.
She was a beautiful, talent, and was in the eyes of all media, which made her death even more breathtaking. Prescription drugs was her ultimate downfall, and led to her death. That August night she took forty Nembutal pills, which killed her. She was found face down on her bed holding the telephone that she used to previously talk to Peter Lawford. Lawford told investigators how her speaking was off and slurred, which proved that shortly after their call is when she died.
