Julius Caesar transformed the Roman Empire, by expansion of borders and creating an imperialistic ideology amongst the Roman people. Julius Caesar was born in Rome on July 12 or 13, 100 BC. While he grew up in a family Roman aristocrats he wasn't rich. When Caesar was 16 his father, Gaius Caesar, died. After his father's death Caesar along with his mother, Aurelia, had kept going. Rome at the time was deemed unstable. The Republic had a very hard time keeping control of its massive and ever growing population. Later in his life he went on to marry Cornelia. Caesar had a hate of the dictator, Sulla, who ordered Caesar to divorce Cornelia or he would lose his property. Caesar refused and to compromise, he escape in the military. He served in the first province of Asia and then in Cilicia. Caesar returned to Rome to begin his career in politics as a prosecuting advocate. He got into politics mainly because of Sulla's death. He moved to Rhodes to study philosophy. On his way there he actually was captured by pirates. Caesar miraculously persuaded his captors to raise his ransom. Paying off Pompeian soldiers, staging riots and damaging other politician’s reputations. Ironically he went to war against Pompey, leading troops across the river Rubicon in 49 BC. Pompay saw Caesar as a national threat and civil war seemed inevitable. Pompey and his troops were no a match for Caesar and his military. Caesar had pushed his enemies out of Italy and pursued Pompey into Egypt, where he was eventually killed. There, Caesar married Cleopatra and had a son, Caesarion. Caesar then was made dictator for life and hailed as the Father of his Country. Caesar was determined to reforming and structuring a new Rome.
