I never thought that I would have fun teaching and serving others. But that could also be to me having close friends around me. It was a great experience, now I just hope young kids would change their attitude to their elderly, because I wanted to smack them so hard but I didn't. I refrained myself. But I served them food, taught them how to defend themselves, and had a fun time while I was there. Not only is it good exercise, because it felt like was running track before the season even started, but it will help me with my college application. Coming up with this idea was easy since I just did what I did last time mostly. I did a lot of community service in my church and I knew they were hosting certain events. So I decided since I need the hours for collage and it was a perfect fit. I also tried to go back to my old school at first but that backfired hard. My group was relying too much on me and I wasn't having that. I'm glad I decided to leave them and do things alone because I don't have to worry about others and I had friends there anyway so I would be fine. …show more content…
First, I had to call the place and schedule when I was going to be there. Next, I had to find a ride , get there , and get to work. Reminds me of how my grandma treats me when I walk through the door so I was used to it. First thing was serving the food.Serving the food was just the easiest thing to do by far. The problem with that is that I realized of bogus little kids can be. Then I had to clean up and rush to the community center so that I could teach. After everyone left I was part of a play showing the evolution of black culture. FInally, I cleaned up and was on my way back
Over the years I have been very involved in my community and school. Being a part of something helps to define who you are as a person and the principles and values you hold as important. A personal experience that helps to show my talents and skills can be illustrated by my trip to Italy last April with the MHS Language Department.
Over the summer, I completed my community service hours at Ohio Valley Medical Center. At the beginning, I was afraid of whether I would like it but after my first day there I could not wait to go back the following week. It gave me some experience in the hospital since I want to work in the Intensive Care Unit when I am older. I met so many volunteers, new and old, that taught me a lot about volunteering and the hospital. I would not give up my summer involvement at the hospital for anything.
I have always considered myself a very promising student. I have worked extremely hard and received high grades. I have a close knit group of friends and my teachers and I have mutual respect for each other .Although I would consider myself at this present stage ‘fulfilled’ something was missing. I realized it wasn’t a materialistic aspect of my life. Through a tragic incident I finally discovered what fit perfectly in that vacancy. The consecutive hospitalizations of my grandparents evoked great pain and sorrow. However, out of the scorching intensity of this tragedy I was warmed and comforted by realizing what I was devoid of: community service.
I am so glad that I was able to get this once in a lifetime opportunity because I was able to learn many things that I wouldn't have been able to learn without volunteering. I also felt accomplished because I was able to do something productive for these ten hours rather than sitting at home. I was able to impact my community and people that I care about. In conclusion, volunteering was a great
I have volunteered at the Salvation Army and have had some wonderful experiences there. For the past years I have been involved in helping children with their homework and I have read books to them. It feels really good when you see the children face expression when they finally get something it is a really good experience. The YMCA is another place I have volunteered, during my volunteering moments at the YMCA I felt like I helped the community so much. During the YMCA we had a chance to volunteer with the children’s hospital to take pictures around the community and write about what it affects us on. This was a great experience because it gave me a chance to speak up not only for me but for other people that probably think the same.
Community Service is a great opportunity to make a difference in the area you live in. There are so many ways to volunteer. Some people are given chances to do community service when they need to pay off fines for tickets. Most people simply do because they love getting involved. It’s their way of making the community a cleaner, healthier place.
I performed my community service at a local elementary school. I chose this place because of its relative ease, and it was also an area I could easily get to and from. I started my first day very confused and out of character. The school was very bland, and it brought back memories of the time that I attended elementary school. Upon first arrival, I met the principal of the school.
“Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul motivated by love.”
The first time I started volunteering was last year and it changed my perspective towards a lot of things; from the way of looking at people to how my mind works. The impact it's had on my life has been immense and life changing. From there, I constantly tried getting myself involved in giving a hand and at the same time, to widen my knowledge.
I want to share the experience that I got from reading to the little kids in Washington school. This had been my first time doing community service so I was a little nervous, I didn't think that the kids where going to like me. But when I go to the school and saw the lovable little kids I felt much better. When we got into little groups and started reading they started hugging me and reading along. They made me feel good and I was ready to come back next Thursday. This was the greatest experience that I had ever had, I felt like a teacher and it fells great to have those little kids liking you.
I really enjoyed volunteering at a soup kitchen offering a bit of my time to serve those that are at a down point of their live. However, it is unlikely I will continue the service after I met the 12-hour requirement. The location is simply too far away, and the gas is just not worth it, however, I would seek other volunteer organizations in the future in my area.
Though, the concept of community service is not very new its importance has developed in the past few years. There are thousands of organizations all over the world that engage and hold millions of young people all through the world. People of all age groups, with a maximum number of youth are involved in the process of community service. Community-based organizations include; social service organizations, non-profit providers and associations that engage both young people as well adults as volunteers. The process is beneficial both for the individuals as well as the society. Without community service people would not know the meaning of charity and giving back. Community service can be defined as a service that is performed for the benefit of the public. Community service is not a responsibly or an obligation; it is a commitment. A person must want to do it with good intentions and not because they are being forced to do so. Basically, community service is a way for a person to give back to a community in which they live.
Throughout the school year I can do community service within my area by using the skills of Community, Leadership, Positive Self-Concept and Navigate the System. Next I can develop some goals to know what I want to achieve in by including the skills of Long Range Goals and Realistic Self-Appraisal. Then I can volunteer at the Food Bank and my skills of focus will be Community, Nontraditional Knowledge and Strong Support Person. First of all, I want to do community service within my area by utilizing the skills of Community, Leadership, Positive Self-Concept and Navigate the System. I want to apply the skill of Community in order to show focus and commitment towards the service that I do.
I also had the privilege of helping with the Meals on Wheels non profit organization. My grandfather used to be a Meals on Wheels recipient and he would share with me how he enjoyed looking forward to their company and a hot meal daily. I volunteered because I wanted to give back and help someone else’s loved one in the same way. It was very rewarding delivering hot meals to people who didn’t have the means of getting one as well as being there for them to talk to. Overall, it was a very humbling experience, it made me realize just how blessed I am and how much I take for granted daily.
I volunteered at East Parkside Nursing Home through my church 's mentoring program. At first, I was somewhat uncomfortable volunteering at a nursing home because my great-grandfather, among many others, was mistreated in a nursing home. But, as the day went on and we engaged in activities with the residents, I eventually calmed down and got into the smooth of things. We had one-on-one contact with the seniors, and we learned about their lives and families. One of the seniors was a veteran who fought in the Vietnam War and he told all of the volunteers a few short war stories. For several residents, their families rarely visited them, so they genuinely appreciated the volunteers spending time with them. Later, we made holiday cards and sang Christmas carols for the senior citizens. They seemed so elated and pleased, which made me feel so fulfilled that I could make someone 's day by doing something so
