The results of climate change will inevitably effect society. The increase in intensity and frequency of tropical systems puts humans all around the world at risk. The destructive capability of these storms can obliterate current infrastructure, and cause mass human injuries and deaths. The rising sea levels make flooding more likely. The combination of abnormally intense tropical storms and high sea levels will cause extreme storm surges potentially submerging low altitude coastal regions. Climate change can cause typical weather and climatic events to be more extreme in general. Longer droughts, greater floods, and deadly heat waves. More heat means more evaporation, more evaporation means there is more moisture content in the atmosphere, …show more content…
With less snow on average, and increasing rates of snow melt, it is becoming harder for farmers to predict when the best time to plant crops are. Additionally, scientists depend on snow melt to predict the intensity of flooding. The variability of rate and amount of snow melt makes it difficult for these forecasts to remain accurate. An important factor increasing the vulnerability of society to the impacts of climate change is the lack of education people have on climate change. Without education, society can not properly prepare for impacts to come. The current infrastructure remains a fault as well. It was not built to withstand the intense storms and flooding that could come. Additionally, the intense heat could damage electrical equipment, machinery, and interfere with modes of transportation. Since drought and precipitation will be at extremes in certain locations, it will be difficult to maintain healthy …show more content…
Climate change should be common knowledge, being taught in educational institutions around the country. First and foremost, a knowledgeable society would be more aware of the situation. Additionally, by teaching younger generations about the critical nature and sensitivity of the earth, they will be better prepared to prevent the advancement of global warming when they are the ones responsible. Those who live along the coast are especially vulnerable to the accelerating sea level heights, increasing the risk of coastal flooding. The most efficient way to prevent mass impact of coastal society is to discourage development in high risk, flood prone areas such as the United States East Coast and Gulf of Mexico. Infrastructure should be developed to divert the flow of water away from communities, and fortified levees along areas of lowest altitudes would be a very helpful in containing flood waters. It has been found that the frequency and intensity of heat events is increasing, especially in the Midwest. The young and elderly are especially vulnerable to these events. Communities can protect those vulnerable to the intense heat by communicating the danger of extreme heat events. Pubic communication systems such as radio, television, and phones can be utilized as warning and
Earth’s average temperature has increased about 0.8 degrees Celsius since 1880 and another degree could cause even more problems than there already are. Climate change is an important issue to be aware of because it is real and it affects you and the things around you each and every day. Every day animals lose habitats and die because climate change caused there home to burn, or their food sources started to deplete, etc. Along with these, more and more CO2 is being released into the air due to wildfires burning which is causing the atmosphere to heat even more. With the temperature increasing the oceans will become warmer and evaporation and rainfall patterns will change which will affect humans and animals, because we all work together in a system. There are many consequences of climate change like human health issues, and more animals becoming endangered, but the most important consequence is the rising amounts of wildfires.
Already scientists have observed that more than 75% of the recent economic losses are caused by natural hazards which can be attributed to wind storms, floods, droughts and other climate related hazards. In the year 2008, the U.S. state of Iowa was on the front pages of newspapers all around the world. Weeks of heavy rain in the Midwest caused rivers to swell and levees to break. Millions of acres of farmland are now underwater, their plantings most likely destroyed. By March, Iowa had tied its third-highest monthly snowfall in 121 years of record keeping, and then came the rain. April’s st...
Climate change is a term used to describe the increase in the average temperature of the earth’s surface and has been a major problem recently. Our world is constantly changing and therefore so is our climate, as our country industrializes we create more greenhouse gases from the immense human activity being produced. “These gases get into the atmosphere when coal, natural gas and oil is burned for energy and over the last century the burning of fossil fuels like coal and oil has increased the concentration of carbon dioxide… the clearing of land for agriculture, industry, and other human activities has increased concentrations of greenhouse gases.”(NASA 1). Climate change is causing global warming that causes the earth to heat up rather than
There are many causes and consequences of climate change discussed throughout this Encyclical. One of the most important would be the extreme weather. “In recent decades this warming has been accompanied by a constant rise in the sea level and, it would appear, by an increase of extreme weather events, even if a scientifically determined cause
Due to climate changes, we are a “gradual and uncertain rather than immediate and obvious” process, we as humans cannot understand it (Jamieson, 102). In addition, climate change effects have no geographical bounds and because very few people pay attention to events that occur beyond national boundaries, most people are oblivious to its existence. Jamieson makes the point that climate change must be thought rather than sensed, and we as humans are not very good at thinking (Jamieson, 103). On top of that, even if we succeed in thinking that something is a threat, we are less reactive than if we sense that it is a threat. Since we cannot even comprehend climate change's presence in our world right now, it also makes it extremely difficult for us to comprehend how our anthropogenic actions of today will affect future generations all over the world.
In the coming decade, climate change will lead to more storms, droughts and floods that will have serious consequences on ...
Climate change has become of the world’s major issue today. The earth’s climate is always changing in a very fast and also in different ways. Climate changes affect our lives psychologically, emotional and also physically. Climate change is defined as a long term change in the earth’s climate, especially a change due to the increase in the average atmospheric temperatures. Due to this change in temperature, a lot of changes has occurred in our environment, these changes include rising sea levels, flooding, melting of polar ice caps, hotter days, colder nights and heat waves. These climate changes plays an important role in shaping our natural ecosystem, our human economics and also the most important, it affects the human race. For
Climate change is manifested in; variations in minimum and maximum temperature, frequent and extensive droughts, high intensity rainfalls and floods, seasonal and regional pest and disease prevalence leading to conflicts for pasture and water resources, high food insecurity; encroachment into
The Earth is currently locked in perpetuating spiral of climate change. While the global climate has unarguably been changing since the dawn of it's manifestation, the once steadied ebb and flow of climate change has become increasingly more unpredictable. The risk of rising sea levels, and drought plaguing the fresh water supply, during the time that flooding and sporadic storm conditions turn once fully inhabited regions into uninhabitable death traps. Climate change catalyzed by human's increased production of carbon dioxide, is more noticeable than ever in our recorded history (United States, 2014 National Climate Assessment). Thankfully however, with the changing weather conditions due to carbon related emissions, the change in public opinion about their personalized influence on climate change is also increasing. Kevin Liptak Jethro Mullen, and Tom Cohen note that In reaction to the most recent governmental report on climate change, even the U.S. government believes that a stronger approach needs to be taken to correct our self-generated cataclysm.
Climate change is an inevitable phenomenon that is being experienced globally in various forms, such as temperature rise. Sea level rise, droughts, floods, hurricanes, landslides, etc. According to the fourth assessment report of the IPCC project, even with immediate implementation of mitigation strategies, global climate change will continue for decades. Climate change is inflicting serious consequences on human wellbeing and will continue to inflict damage in the future. It is estimated that global temperature will rise by 1.8 oC - 4.0 oC by the end of the 21st century (Izaurraade, 2009).
climate change is a natural process, but because of increases in certain human activities this process is taking a faster and more dangerous route, ruining our earth and creating global problems. So what could really be done about this issue? Well, humans are ultimately to blame for this, and while there is no one, immediate solution to this complication, there are smaller solutions that can first be taken to eventually reduce the effects that climate change has on the planet. One of these solutions that we can put into effect almost immediately, involves supporting educational efforts that help children and teens in public/private schools become more educated about climate change.
As global warming continues to impact the earth, warmer days will become more frequent days, which means that there will be more heat waves. “Storms, flooding, and droughts will generally be more severe as precipitation patterns change. Hurricanes may increase in intensity due to warmer ocean surface temperatures” (Przyborski, 2013). Over the past fifty years, these types of weather conditions have increased and global warming caused most of them. Unfortunately, heat and weather is not the only thing happening with global warming. Rising sea levels is also a major concern that has an eye out for. As this will start happening, the sea levels will start to erode coasts and cause more frequent flooding. It may almost come to the conclusion where some islands will disappear. This could start to become a major concern because ten percent of land on the world lives approximately ten meters above sea level. As all of these factors of the world continue to take part here on earth, things may start to get a little more challenging to face. Dealing with these will not only impact the world as one, but the people who live on it. Homes will be destroyed and there will be fewer opportunities for us to continue our journey here on
Floods-There are several places on Earth where people need to stay alert about flooding. Examples are Kolkata(India), Mumbai(India), Miami(Florida), Tokyo(Japan),etc. These cities need to stay alert because they have either a lot of rain or earthquakes. It’s funny that floods occur on land that is usually dry. They also occur in places close to rivers, streams, etc. Too much rain, fallen dams and many other ways can cause these rivers/streams to overflow and flood the land nearby, resulting in a floodplain. When a large storm or tsunami occurs, a flood is sure to follow. The danger of flood depends on whether they develop quickly or take time to develop. Flash floods are very dangerous as they come without warning resulting in a shortage of time for people to evacuate, while many other floods take hours of time to develop, resulting in a lot stronger flood. Unfortunately, the floods that scientists predicted would come once in a hundred years are now coming regularly(every year or so). The water moving in rivers and streams when they hit land has frightening power. Plus, the land is ...
Of all the effects of global warming, the extreme weather that is taking place all over the world is the most obvious one. Global warming will bring more heat waves, drought, fiercer wildfires and stronger hurricanes. “This intensification of weather and climate extremes will be the most visible impact of global warming in our everyday lives” (75 yrs NWF). Due to rising temperatures, places everywhere will be affected as we get more extremely hot summer days and lesser winters. In addition, as these rising temperatures shifts the cycle of rain and increases evaporation, there will be longer and drier droughts which in turn can lower the water supply for life everywhere. Wildfires can turn out to be even more catastrophic due to warmer temperatures and drier areas combined with accumulated levels of fuel loads in the forest which has built up as a result of decades of fire suppression activities. Moreover, stronger hurricanes are also an effect of global warming as sea levels are rising and heavier rains are falling near the coasts. Overall, global warming is bringing climates that are changing real fast.
Climate change is caused due to the release of few carbon compounds into the atmosphere, which drastically brought the weather changes all over the world. Climate change is not confined to a single region. It has become an important issue all over the world for the past few years.
