America offers an abundance of opportunities, freedom, and even people. The people of America known as Americans create the vibrant country of America. However, we as Americans, do have our prominent times as well as our detrimental times. We can be people of great grace, respect, honor, love, and thoughtfulness. That can take a dramatic turn at times. Americans can be the most magical people you can meet, but, as all people on this earth, Americans have their negative characteristics. We as Americans can be too consumed in time, ungrateful, which calls us to become self-absorbed, and we can worry about things that we cannot even change. I say these things because I behave this way at times as well. To begin, Americans can tend to be so caught up in time. I personally do. For example, as a child, I never thought about time but, as I became older and started to get responsibility I began to worry about time. When I had meetings to attend, work due or just wanting to hang out with friends. My life revolved around time. Everyday we go …show more content…
and we work, go to school, run errands, perform tasks for others, and many other chores. By moving around, and not realizing the simplest aspects around us, we tend to arrange our life around a 24 hour system. People constantly say that there is not enough time in the day. The key concept I realized is that if we take time and erase it from being in control of our lives so much, we could do much more. By being so enwrapped in time we cause ourselves to forget about others as well as some of our priorities. Next in line, being ungrateful can also be a negative characteristic of Americans. We as Americans are so adapted to the life that we live that we most of the time forget about others’ who do not get the ability or chance to live the lifestyle we live. I am extremely grateful for the life I live and the blessings I receive. I sometimes neglect the fact that people, whether it be in another country, state, city or even people I associate with on a daily basis do not necessarily have the same luxuries as I do. For instance, I recently saw a video about how a young boy from a foreign country who was around the age of twelve. He did not have a family. Each day, he had to search for food in trash cans, and at night he slept in a dirt alley by himself. The only thing he truly wanted was to get an education. The one thing that he wanted I get to achieve everyday Some Americans can be blinded by the lavish materials they have and the lavish experiences they pursue. Yet, somewhere else in the world another person is struggling day to day and unable to do some of the simplest things such as eat, and take a bath, or even go to school. Finally, we as Americans tend to worry about things that we cannot change and technically have no say so over.
Whether it be political, or social we worry about things that cannot be properly fixed. Specifically, I worry about small things that should not have an impact on my life. One time, I had something highly important that needed to be done and it stressed me out to the fullest capacity. I started getting very irritated and eventually broke down crying one night. However, I completed the task. I learned that I worked myself up too much over something that was not so hard. I learned if I just stopped worrying about things everything will take its course. We construct our minds on problems that do not deal or concern us. We want to have input on situations when we did not have the courage to find a resolution. By positioning ourselves into equations that we should not be in we create a bigger issue than the one that
preexisted. In conclusion, Americans exhibit great characteristics that make them great people. But Americans also have negative characteristics. The way we work on fixing those characteristics is what makes us the great people of a great country. We just have to be better in order to live in a better place. We all have our faults that we have to overcome. The negative characteristics do not have to outweigh the positive characteristics of a group of great people.
Dubbed as “The Greatest Country in the World” by god knows who, America is not as awesome and free as some may see. In doing a close reading of Heather Christle’s “Five Poems for America”, we can see how the author uses metaphors to portray a flawed American, specifically within its political system, religion, obsession with technology and basic human rights. Americans have been living with the oppression of these everyday issues, completely oblivious thus creating the America we infamously know today.
In his inaugural address, Ronald Reagan characterizes America as broken and selfish but, with hard work it can become truly great. America is the land of opportunity and we as Americans are very lucky to live here but, one cannot just think of himself, he must think of the country. No matter what shape or state America is in, there is always a way to make it better with hard
America has always been looked at as “The New World” where people from all over come to fulfil their dreams. Their dreams may not have been exceptional, but only to have enough to survive, have a house where their children could be raised and feel free and protected. Now, according to Webster’s online dictionary Americanism is defined as a custom, trait, belief, etc., peculiar to the United States of America or its citizens, but to me it means so much more.
Writer Marilyn Vos Savant once stated, “What is the essence of America? Finding and maintaining that perfect, delicate balance between freedom ‘to’ and freedom ‘from’.” When you are an American, freedom is just one of the multitudinous privileges that come with the package. Benefits such as rights, the pursuit of happiness, and diversity are some additional perquisites. However, everything has flaws and America has a few.
Stereotypically, Americans are viewed as closed-minded, self-centered, and materialistic. On the other hand Americans can be independent, innovative, and driven and determined when completing the task at hand. Unfortunately, some of the negative characteristics of Americans outweigh the more positive characteristics.
Folklores are stories that have been through many time periods. Folklore include Legends, Myths, and Fairy Tales. Legends are traditional tales handed down from earlier times and believed to have a historical basis. Myths are ancient stories dealing with supernatural beings, ancestors, or heroes. Fairy Tales are fantasy tales with legendary being and creators.
The first American worldview that I will introduce is that time focuses on the future rather than the past. This means that Americans tend to live for the moment,
What does it mean to be an American? To me, what it means to be American is to Pledge Allegiance to your country, to proudly boast that you live in a country that has a justification for existence, to be given opportunity. Although there are many definitions of what it means to be an American, does being an American really just mean being successful in society? The point of this essay is to describe the different meanings and my feelings of what it is to be “American”.
Overall, the good out weighs the bad. Being an Americans means you get to uphold the meaning of liberty and freedom, living from day to day knowing the countless opportunities offered to you, and having the right to live the life you choose to live. All of these opportunities are entitled to us and given to us freely. As an American you determine the path you want to take and act upon it.
Americans take many things for granted. For the majority of the population, life is relatively mild. People are normally not rich, but not poor, not ecstatically happy, but not too depressed either. One might say that the population generally has it easy, as compared to a large percentage of the rest of the world. It is for this reason that a great many people from other countries immigrate here. They are seeking a better life. Often, however, they get mistreated. Like the Mexican immigrants, who arrive here, only to be treated unfairly because of few opportunities, American prejudice, and Americanization. They do not come here to do harm, or to take advantage of Americans, or to do anything but find something better than their current situation. However, their experience here is often not as good as it could be.
America offers so much to the people who live in the U.S., but America will always be full of criticism, violence, and people who are offended by everything. America still seems to manage to be one of the world's best nations. The first Americans planned America to be as successful as it is, but for America to be more peaceful. America is not one of the most peaceful places, but it is not the most dangerous place to live. Even political parties lie and cheat each other. A lot of the Americans are greedy, because they take advantages of what America offers to their citizens. Even though America is not perfect I am still glad to live in the U.S.
America has flaws like any other country does, but there is also a lot of things we forget to appreciate. Here are some of the specific things in an everyday life that I appreciate: generous people (did you know that the average American donates $2,974 each year?), freedom of speech (we are allowed to say anything on our minds without being punished. As long as it’s respectful.), and the fact that America offers the lowest-priced gas
It was about two years ago when I arrived in United States of America, and I still remember the day when I left my native country, Honduras. As I recall, one day previous to my departure, I visited my relatives who live in San Pedro Sula. They were all very happy for me to see me except my grandmother Isabel. She looked sad; even though she tried to smile at all times when I was talking to her, I knew that deep inside of her, her heart was broken because of my departure the next morning. I remember that I even told her, “Grandma, do not worry about me, I’ll be fine. I promise that I will write you letters and send you pictures as much as possible.” Here reply was, “I know sweetie I know you will.” Suddenly after she said that I started to cry. For som...
What it means to be an American has been interrupted many different ways. To some, it is all about being able to worship whatever they want and to have the freedom of speech. Others go to a deeper level of what it means. During America’s early days there was a large amount of literature written about the country and the things that it offered. Some of the most influential include Jean de Crèvecoeur, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Paine. All were very significant for their writings during their time and they all shared a common feature in what they expressed, they all love America. Each offered different reasons on why they did, but nonetheless, they cherished this new land just as people do today.
America is so-called “the land of opportunity”, which makes the country a whole. Being a whole displays a positive
