In the fall of Hawaii after the bombing of pearl harbor, one specific American-Japanese boy tried his best to achieve his one goal, to bring back up his father’s fishing boat, his name was Tomi. Why was he so anxious to do this? When the Japanese bombed pearl harbor, Tomi’s dad and grandpa were both arrested because they were unidentified Japanese, (the Americans thought they were the Japanese attacking.) Tomi’s personality can be described in an innumerable amount of ways, like being always determined. He adores and cherishes his family, and invariably always tries his best.
For one thing, Tomi was always determined. Before the attack of Japan and bombing of pearl harbor, home was a place filled with joy. Since that day- that incident, gloom sauntered the air, leaving no hope. Although this was how things rolled for over a year now, Tomi was always determined. After realizing the idea of bringing his father’s sunken boat back up, maybe everything impossible became possible. With many obstacles that got in his way, he was always determined to bring it back up. Throughout the book, he shows loveable expressions to his family, (his sister, mother, father, and grandpa.) When his father was captured, he was deeply disconsolate and muddled. In some parts of the book, it’s shown that he shows great care and love for his younger sister and mother. In the book, “House of The Red Fish” chapter 2, after the bombing of pearl harbor, and Tomi’s dad getting arrested, it shows that Tomi even offered to work and quit school, in order to make money for the poor family. This shows how much he cares for his family, but his mom denied his request and asked him to stay in school. This shows that he loves his family greatly, and will do anything for them- even quitting school to work and earn money for the poor
