The movie hotel Rwanda was produced in 2004 by an American company. The movie narrates the plight of a hotelier in the midst of the Rwandan genocide and the various steps and decisions he makes in order to save his family and a number of refugees who had taken refuge in his hotel. Civil war breaks out between the two major communities in Rwanda, the Hutu and Tutsi. Hutu tribesmen make up to 70 percent of the country’s population during this time, while the Tutsi are a minority with only 30 percent making up the total population of the country. After the death of the Hutu president civil war escalates and more than a million Tutsi are crudely massacred. Paul Rusesabagina, a Hutu married to a Tutsi decides to take decisive action in order to save his family. He quickly moves them to the Belgian hotel he manages together with 1200 refugees that had been stuck. When the war wedges on, we see a corrupt general come into the picture, Paul is able to convince him to help them escape the war torn area and move to Tutsi held areas so that his family and the refugees …show more content…

After the President who is Hutu, is shot down. His clansmen fully believe his death had been propagated by the Tutsi. Being a minority they are greatly outnumbered and are overwhelmed in no time by machete bearing Hutu extremists. Within no time all Tutsi individuals are brutally massacred by the Hutu which leads to one the worst genocide the world has ever seen. On seeing this Paul, whose wife happens to be from the minority side becomes a target and he has to move fast in order to save his family from the unfolding brutality. When the United Nations general Colonel Oliver sees the situation on the ground, he tries to notify his superiors and request for support but to no avail.
