In a hospital, there is a wide distribution of tasks that must be completed. However, certain tasks can only be completed by individuals who've obtained the authority and experience to perform these tasks. This is why a hospital would be a prime example of representing the nature and function of bureaucracy. Depending on how advanced the task is, depends on how important that certain individuals is. For example, a hospital will most likely have a type of neurosurgery profession present in the hospital at all times, however a plastic surgeon may not always be on call. Tasks performed by the physician assistant and medical students ensure that the hospital runs efficiently, but could be done by another individual on a higher level of authority. Individuals responsible for managing the hospital records are also part of the lower hierarchy. These individuals are also responsible for creating written communication between employees, ensuring a effective system of communication between employees. Taking care of medical records is another key factor that ensures that hospitals run smoothly. The government controls and regulates healthcare somewhat because healthcare organizations are in a position to take advantage of the elderly and sick so there are regulations that protects them.
