Homicide is defined as the deliberate and unlawful killing of one human being by another. There are two other terms for homicide; murder and manslaughter. To break it down, a person killing another person. The penal code for homicide/murder is PC187. Homicide can be considered as either a criminal or non-criminal act. A person who takes another persons life can be charged for homicide. Whether it be a felony or not, there will almost always be consequences to the act of homicide. There are many different scenarios in which a person can be charged with homicide. Sometimes, homicide can be unintentional; in this case, the person being charged will most likely be charged with manslaughter. According to Aggrawal, A. In order for a person to be charged with murder, “malice aforethought” must be present. Malice aforethought is defined as the intention to kill or harm. If malice aforethought can be proved in a homicide case, chances are very high that the person will be charged with homicide. In order to convict a person of homicide, there are many factors that must be proven in a court of law. A lengthy, detailed investigation is necessary in order to prove a person guilty of homicide. The first step in a homicide investigation is that along with law enforcement, forensic officers must also visit the scene of the crime. During the investigation, suspects will be eliminated, the crime will be reconstructed, and DNA and other evidences will be collected. After gathering all of the evidences and information from the crime scene, the investigators will then become piecing together their case. If someone is found guilty of homicide, the punishment can be severe. Many years ago, homicide was punishable by ways of stoning, death by a thousand cuts, live burial, roasting alive in oil, breaking on the wheel, and drawing and quartering. These days, punishments are nowhere near as harsh. Punishments are now much more humane. Ways of punishment for homicide in todays times are hanging, electrocution, or lethal
